Genius 817 Report post Posted September 5, 2009 Operated the phone yesterday, its very similar to the previous D line of phone (non WIndows) some improvement in GUI not significant, has added a saperate menu for pre installed Java apps, has some handy apps in it - i liked Private Menu which locks Contacts, SMS, Photos, useful for some. Avg camera, same Chinese sound quality, can import/export phone book in V.card, CSV formats has built in application. PC sync available in Site but not getting downloaded. if some one need some details can ask me. Cost 7K ....

If I use TATA indicom card + some GSM, will I be able to browse internet using Opera Mini through TATA network? Or will I be required to get GPRS for my GSM card? 2. Is it dual standby? I mean both connections active same time? Can I keep one call on hold when talking on other? 3. Did u tried to use the software for PC sync? 4. What is battery capacity and performance with 2 sims active at a time? 5. does the 2 MP camera has digital zoom? 6. Is it worth buying the handset? 7. How is FM recording functioning? 8. What is the performance of mobile with fully loaded 4 GB card? 9. How much is the internal memory of handset? 10. Did u tried to add some java apps/games to your handset? 11. The dealers are quoting price as 8K, how did u managed to get it in 7K ? Your answers will help me a lot. -Tejkumar

tejkumar 1 Report post Posted September 14, 2009 AFAIK, on Spice handsets, Opera Mini can be used only on GPRS and not on CDMA WAP!!! Hi, so does this mean that if i use tata indicom card on spice D-6666, then i will not be able to browse through opera mini by any means? Do i need to have other GSM card so that i can browse on handset? The tata GPRS charges are 10p/10kb. Which GSM n/w provides cheaper mobile browsing using GPRS? wht about Idea Cellular's GPRS? KumaarShah 143 Report post Posted September 14, 2009 AFAIK, none of the Chinese/Korean/Spice handsets supports WAP on CDMA. They support GPRS on GSM in all handsets. This means that you will not be able to use Opera Mini on CDMA, but you can use it on GSM. I know WAP may be free for CDMA, but then this is the price we have to pay for remaining on CDMA for so long. If your usage is not too high, then don't bother about WAP charges, use GSM's EDGE / GPRS - its equally fast on RGSM - not much reliable idea about other providers. Or go in for a handset which has Wi-fi. BTW any dual CDMA-GSM handset having Wi-fi?

tejkumar 1 Report post Posted September 15, 2009 Spice D88n and D88gold support wap/opera mini on CDMA and also on GSM GPRS.I have used it. Ok. So D-6666 should also support tata indicom n/w on opera mini. @Genius, Can you please check to add tata indicom card in D-6666 and check if opera mini able to browse on tata n/w. (Do not insert any GSM card). This will be really helpful for me as well as other forum members interested in Spice D-6666. BTW the handset is still not available in Pune, MH. Does anybody know about its availability in Pune?
