Thinkpads and MacBook Pros working together to help save lives. While all new smartphones today have accelerometers, it's still a rarity for laptops; but researchers are putting those laptops, as few as there are, to use by turning them into tremor detectors. PC laptops such as ThinkPads and all Apple MacBook Pro laptops feature an accelerometer that's used to park the heads of hard drives in case of sudden movement. It's a safety feature that helps to keep your data from a scary hard drive crash, but researchers are putting that technology towards earthquake detection. A report from NPR has put the spotlight on Quake-Catcher Network, a project from StanfordUniversity that uses the combined data from accelerometer-packing laptops that are connected to the internet. A user of a ThinkPad, MacBook Pro, or anyone with an external USB detector, can download the software for free to help aid in earthquake detection. Of course, the sensors inside a laptop aren't designed to pick up minute movements in the earth – in fact, they can only pick up tremors of about magnitude 4.0 and above – but it would still be valuable information for warning surrounding areas. "If you can detect an event fast enough, then you can potentially provide advance alert to surrounding areas, and those areas could react in several seconds and get to safety," one of the researchers explained.

R u U expecting stereo bluetooth facility in 2000 Rs/- samsung cdma phone?..... It not has any connectivity option like bluetooth..it just has brew support...If u want a2dp enabled handset in lower price segment..go for any chineese craps or rebranded chineese craps with Indian company logo....but with those company u also can not able to get a2dp or even blutooth with 2000 price range... Thank you for your caustic comments. I was considering this phone to be around 3K hence asked that question. If you have studied enough can you please suggest me a good samsung CDMA phone with stereo bluetooth facility - I just want to hang on to reliance CDMA until number portability gets enabled. I don't want to change my number and my current Nokia 6265 is dying. Regards, Arun

^ For all my heavy duty and business related work for which I use softwares like Photoshop, AutoCAD, CorelDRAW, MS Office, Tally and other custom made business softwares, I use my Desktop PC (assembled but very high configuration specs). For normal browsing only I use my Laptop. I like to watch movies also on my Desktop's 19" LCD as I feel anything smaller than that is not justified for this purpose. Also even the best of laptops cannot offer you the sound quality of even a 2.1 sub woofer based Creative/Lansing speaker system, which I have installed on my desktop. Now coming to difference between netbook and notebook the main differences are in - - Processing power (though netbook's atom based processors suffice in all general environment) - Ram (that is a major problem in netbook's limitation to max. 2GB); here the notebook wins... - Hard disk (here the netbook's 160-250gb suffices for most general application) - Screen Size and resolution (here the netbook looses big time and mostly the notebook's win; however for general browsing etc. and if your eye sight is good (LOL), then netbook COULD suffice) - Keyboard and Trackpad (here also netbook's are nearly there but still lack the tactile feel of the notebook's input devices) - Battery Life (No competition; Netbook's win by a huge margin) - Portability (again Netbook's win big time) - Economy (No competition here either; the Netbook wins) Now choose what is more important to you out of the above parameters and make your decision...

Roaming Issue is resolved by using the New Reliance PRL. The rar file is attached of CDMA Updater. Copy both files inside the rar file to your main memory by Palm Quick Install. Then Run CDMA Updater from programs. Be Careful in next steps- 1. Launch CDMAFirmwareUpdater.prc after a while, white screen, it will launch, press Menu button - similar to right click, it is bottom right button, next to ALT key, select debug, select Update PRL, unselect all other options. and run UPDATE now. 2. After some time it will say that Update successful etc. Quit program. 3. Restart Phone Radio which must have been switched off automatically. 4. Restart/Refresh phone by removing and reinserting battery. 5. Your prl is now Updated to International Reliance PRL - Enjoy Unrestricted Roaming. (Special Thanks to Sadikk for providing me the PRL file) CDMA_updater.rar
