Hi All, This is a new scam.... best to be aware about it.....let your family Members know about this. This msg has been sent to me by someone known to me... This is a forwarded Msg. Dear all I cannot stop myself from sharing this with all of you. Its all started when I received a call from someone claiming that he was from my mobile service provider and he asked me to shutdown my phone for 2 hours for 3G update to take place. As I was rushing for a meeting, I did not question and shutdown my cell phone. After 45 minutes I felt very suspicious since the caller did not even introduce his name. I quickly turned on my cell phone and I received several calls from my family members and the others were from the number that had called me earlier - 3954380. I called my parents and I was shocked that they sounded very worried asking me whether I am safe. My parents told me that they had received a call from someone claiming that they had me with them and asking for money to let me free. The call was so real and my parents even heard 'my voice' crying out loud asking for help. My parent was at the bank waiting for next call to proceed for money transfer. I told my parents that I am safe and asked them to lodge a police report. Right after that I received another call from the guy asking me to shutdown my cell phone for another 1 hour which I refused to do and hung up. They keep calling my cell phone until the battery had run down. I myself lodged a police report and I was informed by the officer that there were many such scams reported. MOST of the cases reported that the victim had already transferred the money! And it is impossible to get back the money. Be careful as this kind of scam might happened to any of us!!! Those guys are so professional and very convincing during calls. If you are asked to shut down your cell phone for updates by the service provider, ASK AROUND! Your family or friends might receive the same call. Be Safe and Stay Alert! Please pass around to your family and friends!

I would Request all RimWebians to Join Hands for making Mass user level Request to Reliance to Start Allowing all Customer to enable Foreign ESN / MEID Based Handsets. Some Point which Support This move is As EVDO Services Requires HDR User name and HDR Password it can not Activated in Foreign ESN / MEID Handset the way we were Doing till now. Other CDMA Handsets like Samsung Instinct, LG Dare, LG Vu, All Blackberry, Palm Centro is Impossible to Activate unless Reliance dont allow us. Reliance will have less Pressure to Introduce the New Handset as after some time Some Retailer like Sadik can do it Officially. As MNP is on edge Reliance will have alternative Channel for Customer Support on Handset Front and Retain there Loyal Customer in CDMA. What Reliance should Expect from Customer who Owns the Handset The Customer must know the SPC of Phone or it should be 000000. It will not Resposibility of Reliance for Activation Failure. Reliance will not be Obliged to Activate R-World on it. If Handset is lost Reliance will not Bar the Phone ESN / MEID as it Already Unknown to their Database. Reliance may ask for Memo, Bill, Credit Card Statement to get proof of the Ownership of Phone. If Such Document is not available then Reliance may ask Client to Indemnify Reliance for any Further Legal complication may arise if the Phone is lost, stolen or misused etc. Reliance may Keep a Separate Database for such Clients for their own Purpose. What Customer Should Expect from Reliance. Reliance should Allot Dummy RSN Generated at their End to this New Phone after taking Due Undertaking on a Letter from Client. If Easier Method like TATA can be worked out. Other then RSN. if should be done. Reliance should Provide Latest PRL File on their Web site Column maintain for this Purpose only. A Special Cell should be kept Reliance to maintain Compatibility of Handsets. and This should be also Published on their Site. Reliance should Help to Activate Voice, SMS and Internet Access using CDMA 1x and Upcoming EVDO when available using OTA (Over the Air Activation) for Handset announced Compatible. All Warrenty Related Issue are not Handled. How TATA is doing this. TATA dont use RSN type Funda to Generating Dummy RSN is not Required at all. Just Reset SPC to 000000. Load Proper PRL using Approprite Software like QPST, CDMA Workshop or in Windows Based Phone we could Dial ##PST# and load PRL from Memory Card. Catch TATA Network then and Dial *228 to Switch your Number from Old Handset to new Foreign ESN / MEID Handset using ICC (Insta Change Card) Then Why Reliance is not Doing it till now. May be They dont want Headache There can be so many Reason. May be Becuase of RSN Issue What We Expect from All RimWebians. I Request All RimWebians to write Their Comments for Some Points To give me Feedbacks To Send Email and Fax to Reliance. Also Send Emails and Faxes to some Government Authorities. All Official Communication to Reliance must have Your Name, Address, Reliance Mobile Number and Customer ID. All Government Communication must have You Email ID, Name and Address with Reliance Phone Number.

I think the topic title is self explanatory... I started it after receiving lots of complaints from fellow members that they are being asked money for simple programming needs.... I myself am seeing lots and lots of buy sell things only... healthy discussions are really taking a back seat... sharing is getting redundant day after day... am relying on foreign forums for most knowledge... Your Comments and Poll is highly requested....

I feel forum need both, But asking 3K for programing is like cheating. 95% time i don't charge any one for programing, you can ask rimweb users for the same. 5% peoples who cannot follow the guides given by me. I always give them info free then if they are not able to follow then depending of help require i may charge or may not. Most of the time I also charge some people but most of them are seller or total newB, Also I charge only Rs500 or Rs 1000 Rs 500 are for my time given to them explaining the each and every details so next time they can do it by them self. Also if some one says i am doing wrong, they have to answer following questions 1) why should i spend 3-4 hours for programing and explaining all the steps ? 2) When I spend 3-4 hrs for programing, How can I support my family ? in that 4 hr i can do some other work and earn money. 2) I have to use telephone & internet for these works, who will pay my bills ? 2) Except DK and Muffi who helped me when i was in problem ? 3) After helping so many members, how many came back and said thanks ? 4) ones work is done from next day only few people keep in touch, that too for help only. 5) Even after being one of top poster with good repo(around 200 thanks), i dont have access to TE 6) So my knowledge is not given by Rimweb. About Buy Sell:- 1) what is the use of the forum without having a imported cdma handsets ? 2) If you say I am earning from forum, YES i am earning, but @ what ratio ? 3) My rates are lowest on the forum so its like helping rimweb users by giving them handsets are affordable rates. 4) Healthy discussion about what ? should we discuss only about the rates provided by carriers ? and topic like these :- "my caller tone got activated what should i do? (i am gona die now) " Or Be a vegge like topic ?....LOLz 5) Still there are seller who only do selling put a restriction on them, even after putting a new rules they are not followed by some seller ? why ? But DK's point is valid, But I have little different view Some users are charging which is very high. they should charge for their time and net, not for the knowledge which gain from rimweb.

well a similar topic was raised by kshah in past and we all put our feedbacks in it well , been a geek myself , sometimes its very irritating to see , people not sharing their stuff on forum readily / unknowingly/ unintentionally/ intentionally , whatever be the reason A forum is a place to discuss , bring in new ideas , thoughts and then doing experimentation with those things to arrive to a solution. But most people just come read , ask for help , get things done and vanish from forum , until the next problem they are faced with , i dont blame them as everyone cant be same . I agree with kshah and sumit that in some cases u have to charge for the help u provide for betterment of community itself You cant expect everyone to put in 2-3 hrs of their time for free. sometimes member ask for spoon feeding type programming i dont think charging for programming is bad thing , but then charges shouldnt be exorbitant. Help should be provided for free for trsuted /advanced users look at my BB free unlock codes thread for instance This aint a free service , i have paid for an account which gives me free unlock codes but i am providing it free to people who have helped or contributed to community is some way As far as buy and sell goes , its bread and butter for some users there will be buyng and selling on forum but the only problem that arises with it is since money and competition is involved in any business , a businessman wudnt like to share his business secrets , and thats what we see here the sellers dont wanna share any programming solutions with a fear that the other seller might rip him off and this is where the loop starts again But i feel atleast tips/tricks be shared with advanced users , so that the community can benefit Commercialisation is bound to occur on rimweb , coz demand of imported sets is high here and many people dont wanna buy from usa directly with a fear they might have problems , so they want someone in india to sell them already programmed and this is where people are trying to make money its a demand and supply relationship only thing i mind is that the flow of knwoledge / information / hacks shouldnt stop from one member to another be it a seller or noob or techie , neither shud it be kept just for ones own benefit Share information and support community Infact i feel that arun should start some sort of donations to the forum , so that money raised can be put back in betterment of community itself , this will take care of leeching also .

not only MFI so many new models of bb MFI dont work ,so u have no option but to get unlock codes which are available for 3-15$ on ebay
