Angry Birds has been a massive hit. I'm sure even the developer of the game did not see that coming. It has been the number one selling app - app, not game - on the App Store across the world. It is considered to be the No. 1 game across all platforms in 2010 by a lot of people and we are sure it single-handedly contributed to a lot of iPhone and iPod touch sales. The game has now become an international phenomenon and there are very few smartphone users who haven't wasted precious hours playing Angry Birds. While the game is still restricted to smartphones, there are a lot of people out there who are yet to find a new way to waste time just because they don't have a smartphone. So how can Rovio, the developer of Angry Birds, reach them? Enter Angry Birds for the desktop computer. The Mac version of Angry Birds went live with the Mac App Store on January 6 and the Windows version too went live on the same day and is available on Intel's AppUp center, an application store dedicated to netbooks and notebook computers. The desktop version of the game is priced at $9.99 (Rs. 453 approx) on both the platforms, but is available at an introductory price of $4.99 (Rs. 226 approx). Angry Birds on desktop is basically the exact same game as the one on mobile. You get the same number of levels and every thing else is the same too. The only thing that is different is the way you play the game. On the mobile version you drag the birds with your fingers and then release them. On the desktop version you use a mouse or trackpad to do that. With the mouse you press and hold on the bird and drag it back with left click and then release it. But it gets better on MacBooks with the multi-touch trackpad. You don't have to press but just place your finger on the trackpad and drag it back and then release it. You can also zoom in and out by using pinch to zoom on the trackpad, but if you have a Windows machine or use a mouse then you would have to use the scroll key to zoom. Initially it feels weird to play if you are used to playing on a mobile, but soon you will start appreciating the added real estate offered by the large display of a computer or a netbook. Also, because of the larger screen, you can also zoom out all the way and have the entire game in your field of view, which makes playing a lot easier, without making everything too small. If you are playing with a mouse you can be really fast and blaze through the initial levels at lighting speed. The game scales very well on the higher resolution displays. We tried the game on the 1366 x 768 resolution display of the 11-inch MacBook Air as well as a 1920 x 1080 display on a Windows PC and the game looks great on both. However, there are small problems such as, the grass and the background have a low resolution and do not scale properly on larger displays. But they are minor things and don't really stand out unless you decide to find them. @vinayji After a long long time, its pleasure to read your comments about health. I started weight training at 14 along with martial arts and did it till 30, then for 10 years due to scr***d up priorities, I became very very irregular in exercise and at 40 I started with yog. I plan to start self weight bearing exercises april 2011 and probably weights along with yog in jan 2012. BTW, I am 178 cms tall and 73 kgs today. I became 62 in 2007 due to TB. Habit to Exercise is the best thing parents can gift a child. IMHO.

^^^ If thats is the case you change your instructor or tell him what you want in your goal - increasing weights is an method for body builders prof. ones, you simply do functional training and regarding whey - dont have it its required for high protein diet which you an get it from other source - soy - egg or dal what ever - dont take that as a excuse for not going to gym, things need to change for atleast RIMwebians we are not in those common man list, if you dont hav a good gym look for a good trainer - if you dont have a good trainer look for good literature in net. there are lots of site with guidance - best is do it with body weight - you wont be wrong then,

@genius i am not at all talking abt height issue. my personal experience is that all traniers force to take up weights which is not good in the long run if you discontinue. besides, once you start weights, you are forced for taking why proteins and other drugs which are harmful. i know gym does not mean only weights but in India, 99% of gym means weight. they will force you for weights after 1-2 months. thats my personal experience and that whats ACS is saying.

Kamal Ji - here i am back from mumbai - i had been for Mumbai Marathon 2011 for my 21km run - finally completed it i was able to read post but can not reply it. @ ACS n csmart :: let me clear this out to you first height is genetically determined and body is not a spring or elastic or rubber that will stretch or shrink ---- child will not attain height is the 2nd most common myth after they say cling from a rod if you wanna grow height (being first) ---- how funny as if there is some elastic; there is no scientific evidence supporting these so i wont believe it - i feel children @ there young age should be encouraged for physical activity and GYM - dose not mean weights - many parents surrounded by such myths will stop there children from having good fit body - SEARCH net read something scientific and then mark opinion. NOte: Height and length doesn't matter in there respective places - LOL @ Kamal Ji - I strongly feel go for it his height wont get affected i guarantee that and if it does he will have a great body for 2" less - how tall is sachin tendulkar BTW and how tall was maradona or Sir Donald Bradman or Sir Sunil Gavaskar @ his age 14 first thing that goes if Flexibility so give him a Gym with a yoga class he can stay away from weights if he wants to as it is Muscle growth wont me much as there is low level of Testosterone - a male hormone. he can do Aerobics till then, Talwarkar is a good option - and if you can go for Fitness first its heaven (its in mall on link road andheri to malad) @ friends forgive me if i am being rude but - STOP POSTING LATE @ NIGHTS AND SLEEP INSTEAD GEt back to me you have only one body to live with .............

Kamalbhai, gift him a good cycle, and a camera. Both will cost in total around 6k ( talking about a normal cycle and budget camera, not the high fundu cycles). Gym is not advisable. Swimming may get too repetitive. Besides, swimming at this age may make him grow very tall very fast. My vote is for cycle + cam. EDIT: On lighter note, gift him a brother/sister next year start planning now only, so by next Jan you will have the gift ready! (j/k, don't take it in bad way)

I always gift the children BOOKS for their birthdays. Depending upon the child age and interest I select the books. Initially even if I had selected the wrong book, the child will open up and reveal its interest. If the child gets into reading habits, that is the best thing to happen to a child. Initially my son was not interested in books, but was interested in cars and bike. So I first bought him car magazine and he became excited. Now he has slowly started to read other books also. So my suggestion is BOOKS BOOKS BOOKS

Kamal bhai some gyms will indeed take him at the age of 14 years. He will be put on cardiovascular exercises programme and no weight lifting. Supervision by a instructor is essential here. It is advisable to get him to gym by 16 years or older. In the mean time you can engage him with badminton tennis which will keep him brisk and healthy

Ppc 6700 is evdo capable but it do not support evdo on OMH. Ruim. OMH has split prl. Means first if handset get authenticated on 1X, evdo prl become accessible to phone. Means ruim has 2 PRL. All non OMH devices supports only first 1x PRL. So it always remain connected to 1x only.

City doctor makes breakthrough in fight against aids Parel scientist finds a way to block the virus from spreading in cases of sexual transmission In the global battle against the spread of HIV/AIDS, a major victory has been scored in a rather non-descript lab in a narrow, crowded lane of central Mumbai. Dr A H Bandivdekar, senior scientist and deputy director of the National Institute of Research in Reproductive Health (NIRH), has developed a compound that blocks the virus from growing and multiplying inside a woman's body in cases where it has been sexually transmitted. The path-breaking discovery, almost certain to shake up the anti-HIV/AIDS research across the world, can take the risk of HIV infection out of the lives of commercial sexworkers, thus putting a brake on its alarming proliferation. It can also help women married to HIV+ve men lead a normal life. However, entering Dr Bandivdekar's third-floor office-cum-lab at NIRH's Parel facility on Saturday afternoon, one did not get any sense of history being made. Dressed in a faded polo shirt and loose-fitting khakis paired with floaters, he treated with utter contempt any questions on how soon his discovery could be made commercially available. He'd rather, he said, focus on the ongoing in-vitro trials. "Commercial availability of this anti-dote is not my focus...it's not even my lookout," he said. But Dr Bandivdekar is already the talk of the small anti-AIDS research community. On Friday, he made a presentation in Panaji in Goa to a "very appreciative set of scientists" from across the world. His research, in its various stages, has already been published in three annual reports of the Indian Council of Medical Research. What the 'Bandivdekar compound' (he will not discuss its composition till the patent is cleared) does is it tames Mannose Receptor, a protein found in women's vaginal epithelial cells that binds with the virus and helps it grow and invade others parts of the body. When the Mannose Receptor is controlled at a certain level or is eliminated completely, the HIV virus, in absence of a carrier, is rendered ineffectual. Dr A H Bandivdekar, senior scientist and deputy director of the National Institute of Research in Reproductive Health (NIRH) The beginning Till 2003, when Dr Bandivdekar was in very initial stages of his research, the only protein that was known to bind with HIV and make it grow and multiply was CD4, found in abundance in blood cells. But that related to HIV transmission through blood. There was very little clarity on sexually transmitted HIV. His research first showed that the male sperm is CD4 negative. He later found that the vaginal epithelial cells too were CD4 negative. Now, a big question loomed - if CD4 acts as a carrier when HIV enters a human body through blood, which protein plays the role of CD4 when HIV is sexually transmitted? The answer, that came to Dr Bandivdekar after many years of research and experiments was - Mannose Receptor. And then began the race to find an anti-dote. "The compound is ready now. We have no doubts about its efficacy. Clinical trials will begin this year in the US, when we will use it on rhesus monkeys," he said. During his research, Dr Bandivdekar looked at 40 sexually active, discordant couples (HIV+ve males and HIV-ve women) and found that very low percentage of vaginal epithelial cells in these women had Mannose Receptor. "Since Mannose Receptor is responsible for carrying the virus beyond the vagina and then letting it multiply, these women have been free of HIV even after regular, unprotected sexual contact with their husbands," he said. A 40-year-old TV actor, who was part of this study, tested positive in 2004. He was married and had a 10-year-old son then. However, to his relief, tests showed his wife and son both were free of HIV. It was later revealed that less than 10 per cent of his wife's vaginal epithelial cells had Mannose Receptor. "Though I tested positive, the knowledge that my wife and son were safe gave me strength. The news gave me confidence to fight this disease, now I am doing well with my family's support," he said. Mixed reaction Within the scientific and medical community, there is mixed reaction to Bandivdekar's discovery. One of the major concern is HIV's propensity to mutate. "There are lots of other factors involved in the non-transmission of HIV from one partner to the other. In HIV, there are three sub types - A, B and C. In discordant couples, we have found type C virus not getting transmitted to the partner. However, we need more detailed studies," said Dr Preeti Mehta, head of microbiology, KEM Hospital. "Of course these findings give us new hope, it will take our research to another level. But it's too early for us to let our guard down. In counselling, we still ask discordant couples to use protection when having sex. The virus mutates very fast and that is a constant worry," said Dr Alka Deshpande, head of Anti-Retroviral Therapy at JJ Hospital. Dr Amita Joshi, head of microbiology at JJ, offered a similar reaction. "It will be difficult to be able to comment on this research at this stage. This is quite interesting, but I need to go through details," she said. Source:Mumbai Mirror

+1 to you both Rajan Brother and Saket Bhai for your valuable suggestions. Rajan Bhai, I think my wife will not agree for this too. As he already addicted to Mobile and PSP, so another Multipurpose Electronic Gadget is nowhere in our list. Saket Brother, my son is a Great Swimmer. As we put him into swimming classes when he was just 8 years old. He continued swimming upto the age of 12. Ek baar toh mai bhi dekh ke darr gaya tha jis tarah se usne Back Dive ki thi. Last year he was very curious to join a GYM. But some of my friends, told that GYM is not recommended for this agegroup. Asking again dear friends, is GYM recommended for this agegroup or not ?
