1 pointKamalbhai for the referral. @harismahesh, I have been a RCOM admirer right from the beginning, but the events in the last one and half month have made join the RCOM-Haters & Bashers-club now. In normal times, I would have vouched 100% for RCOM in Chennai. Right now, I am having numerous problems with RCOM for not having migrated my RCDMA number to RGSM since the last 40 days. MNP and INP - I will advise people not to go in for this with RCOM as they are in a total mess and nobody knows what is happening where, when and why. They are not at all ready for INP leave alone MNP. I am trying to force all my friends, relatives who want to do INP to not go in for INP and instead take MNP to other operator. I am that sick with RCOM's INP process. Otherwise for a new connection, RCOM is the best in Chennai - even RGSM service and network is very stable all over Chennai. Tariffs are more or less the same for RCDMA or RGSM. Data on RCDMA is terribly expensive and I do not see it coming down very soon. GPRS and EDGE is good in Chennai - tariffs are the same universal for all operators. If your usage is only local - you can go in for STV 35 (not too sure if this is available for postpaid also - earlier they had LP75 for postpaids) which will give you all local calls at 30ps per mt for 30 days. Sadly for STD, they do not have a similar offer. You can take PPS199 plan and activate LP 75 (or whatever it is now). Roaming will be at the new default Re.1 and Rs.1.50 per mt. As for MTS, I am not too happy with their voice clarity. My experience is based only on incoming calls. I do not have any MTS voice connections - I have only 2 data cards. Someone else who has a Chennai MTS voice connection may advise you better. No idea about their tariff plans and whether they are economical. You may also please call up the respective CCs and find out - alternately you can post here your usage requirements so that someone can respond appropriately. Finally, why postpaid and not prepaid? Enjoyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

1 pointare you familiar with odin or clockworkmod recovery? I am familiar with odin, recently I have degraded from EB13 to DI18 using odin Sivashankkar a few words of wisdom first before flashing a new rom it's very important to backup your phone, in fact if you are flashing anything other then that available on market you should backup your phone. i am talking about a nandroid backup which will help you recover your phone in case of unforeseen circumstances. and remember modding your phone in anyway can lead to bricking of phone if not followed in proper manner. though epic 4g is almost unbrickable, few persons have still managed to brick it. so do remember to follow instructions to the T. whenever you flash a new ROM, it's advisable to restore only data(call log, contacts, sms, calendar enteries) from your previous ROM. use market or appbrain to reinstall applications. if you want to restore things like your angry bird completed levels or settings from your previous ROM, you can face problems like rebooting, camera FC etc. so, it's advisable to start from a clean state. if you can't go through the trouble of reinstalling the apps and want your high scores again, it's better to wait for official ROM to release, or to wait for a ROM which will backup and restore your data which is not the case with available EB13 ROMs yet. now the first step since you are coming from stock DI18( steps may differ for those on DK28) step 1. One Click Root & Recovery go through these steps to root your device and install recovery a: download http://firon.net/xda/one.click.root.exploitv2.5.5.zip and place it on desktop(if you like in a separate folder) and extract it. b: download and install samsung galaxy s drivers 32-bit drivers: http://firon.net/xda/Samsung_Mobile_...00_Epic_4G.zip 64-bit drivers: http://firon.net/xda/usb_drivers_GalaxyS_x64.zip c: ensure USB debugging is on in your device if it's not go to MENU>Applications > Development, then enable USB debugging. d: now run run.bat from earlier extracted file and let it do it's work e: you are now rooted with clockwork recovery installed here is a video explaining the same: above steps are courtesy xda thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=770388&highlight=video&page=19 step 2: now comes the backup part a: switch off your phone b: take your battery out and put it in back. c: now press volume down button, camera button and while keeping them pressed switch on the phone. d: the clockwork mod recovery mode will open, use vol button to go up and down, use camera button to select an option in this mode. e: go down and choose backup and restore. f: now choose backup and let it do it's work. g: after backup is complete go back and reboot the system, make sure to copy this backup on your computer too in case something goes wrong with your sd card . h: after phone switches on go to android market and download mybackup root. i: after installing use this program to backup the data you want on your sd card. note: you can backup your apps too but i won't advice that due to aforementioned reasons j: after backup make sure to copy the backup created on your computer too. step 3: installing EB13 on your phone a: Download http://www.multiupload.com/KY0SYAG8S0 b: copy the downloaded file to your SD card on the Epic 4G - Plug in device - Select "Mass Storage" - Drag the "update.zip" into root(main folder) of your SD card c: Boot your device into "Recovery Mode" -switch off your phone - Pull out battery - Put in battery - Push and hold the combination of the Volume Down Button, the Camera Button, and the Power Button d: Select "apply sdcard:update.zip" from the "Recovery Mode" - The "Home" soft key or camera key are the select key. -wait for the process to complete. -the phone will reboot and you will have the EB13 rom on your phone. this step is courtesy XDA thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=963652 step 4: install root and clockwork mod recovery again you will have to root your phone and install the clockworkmod recovery again to your phone. since most of the new ROMs support EXT4 format, i will advice you to install Clockwork Mod version 3.0.0.5/6 which can be obtained from here: http://efragtv.com/android/OneClickRootCWM3-EB13.zip the process of installing is same as i told you in step 1. further details are given here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=897612 step 5: installing new rom after installing clockwork mod you should boot into recovery -switch off your phone - Pull out battery - Put in battery - Push and hold the combination of the Volume Down Button, the Camera Button, and the Power Button now create a backup of the phone before installing new rom. after creating backup go to these threads to download new roms for AhmgskMod TrulyEpic v3: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=971105 -download truly epic v3 from here: http://www.multiupload.com/RAKI9MXAXR -after installing this rom you will have to install few patches given at the XDA link i gave you as this ROM still have a few bugs. for SyndicateROM Frozen 1.0 : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=976194 for SUPERNOVA ROM v2 - EB13: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=873347 -download the EXT4 version from here:http://www.ndsico.com/XDA/roms/SuperNova.2.2.2.B.EB13.zip step 6. go through the above threads and download the ROM you like. my personal preference is SyndicateROM Frozen 1.0 as i have found no issues with it thus far. after downloading the rom follow following steps: a: copy the downloaded ROM(zip) file to the root(main) folder of your SD card b: boot into recovery -switch off your phone - Pull out battery - Put in battery - Push and hold the combination of the Volume Down Button, the Camera Button, and the Power Button c: once into recovery select wipe data/factory reset -you will get various options, most of the no and only one yes-delete all user data -select yes -repeat the above steps and wipe data two more times d: select wipe cache partition -again select yes from various options -repeat steps and wipe cache partition two more times e: select advanced -in advanced select wipe dalvik cache -again select yes from various options -repeat above steps and wipe dalvik cache two more times. f: now select go back g: now select install zip from sd card h: select choose zip from sd card i: select the zip file of the ROM you want to install -choose yes from the various options when prompted further. -wait for the new rom to install and let it reboot completely - the whole process can take from 5-10 min, please be patient. -enjoy your new ROM. points to ponder: 1. these instructions can brick your phone if not followed carefully. me or the developers cannot be held responsible for possible bricking, tsunamis, earthquakes or enhanced personality and self esteem of person following these steps and installing awesome roms. i have given three links but these steps can be used for installing other ROMs based on EB13 release and supporting EXT4. 2. though the original update of samsung was full of bugs, the community ROMs at xda are mostly trouble free. i am personally using ACS frozen and have not had any force closure or lag so far. 3. again to emphasise my point, if you restore previous apps and settings from your previous rom, there is bound to be some trouble. i always prefer to start from a clean state and only backup and restore data including call logs, contacts, sms and calendar entries. the few apps or games i use, i prefer to redownload from android market. but you can restore at your own risk. 4. people familiar with ODIN can use it for a quicker installation. 5. i hope i have not omitted anything, and made this post user(noob) friendly. still if you notice something please PM for suggestion or query.
