1 - Android basics ROM: it is the firmwire similar to Windows on PC, in Android world we have the ''stock ROM'' which is the ROM that comes built in, we have ''custom ROMS'' which are built by developers bringing lot of customizations, and ''cooked ROMS'' which are custom ROMS on which we add apps and settings as we want. Kernel: it is the interface between hardware and software, used to modify hardware drivers as wifi, battery, CPU overclocking and undervolting. Radio: it changes the baseband of the phone, though not recommended to be changed because they could brick your phone. Rooting: it is a process that allows users to attain privileged control (known as "root access" or superuser su) which allows installing specific apps, custom ROMs, kernels etc. Recovery Mode (recovery.img): it is a special piece of software that gives you access to administrative functions, such as installing the base system (ROM), making backups, and performing a 'factory reset'. Android SDK: it is a free app for windows that is essential to use ADB and fastboot. ADB: it is a DOS command that can be used within android sdk when the phone is in normal USB mode, mainly used to copy/pasting system files. Fastboot: it is an ADB command that takes the phone into fastboot mode, can be used to unlock bootloaders. Refer this for details. 2 - Setting up Android SDK and using ADB Refer to this topic for details, guide videos and commands. Kanaga ji, Here is a method. The source of this guide is this. It is for GSM version but should work. I have not tested it so be aware there is some risk. 1. Install Latest Kies from samsung website into your pc here click on the software tab exe file. 2. Download and install SuperOneClick 1.7 by ShortFuse here see the end of the post there is .zip file. If you are not XDA member download from here. 3. Unmount your sd card under setting>sdcard and phone storage setting>Unmount SD card and then remove it from your phone 4. Set your SGA into USB Debugging mode by ticking it USB debugging mode under Setting>Application>Developement>tick USB debugging mode 5. Run Kies and connect your SGA to your pc using the cable (for safety reason don't use bluetooth or other connectivity) 6. Once your Kies show that your SGA is connected to your pc, Extract SuperOneClick 1.70 into a folder using winrar. Antivirus should be off. 7. Run SuperOneClick.exe as administrator. 8. Press Shell Root and the it will temporary root your phone and a small window will pop out it shown "Device has a temporary ADB root! Reboot your device to remove it" 9. Click ok (don't need restart) and continue to press Root. 10. After finished root, it will pop a another small window called Test? and it will shown Root files have been installed! Would you like to run a test? Press Yes 11. another pop out window will pop out and show "a su. blah blah blah...." Just press ok 12. and finally window will pop out title Rooted will shown "Your device has been rooted!" "Would you like to donate now?" Press yes if you want donate or else press no 13. Unplugged and Reboot your SGA device. Congratulation, Your SGA Device has been Rooted! How to Check your device rooted or not? Ans : Notice there will be a SuperUser in your menu If this does not work follow this. This guide is for CDMA version but similar.

Mini Review of GalaxyPOP_CDMA... Pluses:- 01. Response of capacitive screen is very good (for the price) and it supports multi-touch and the size is also good (3.1" I think).. 02. The three HARDWARE keys (Menu, Home, Back) feels much much better than the capacitive keys on my EPIC.. 03. OMH compatible and 1x/EV-DO with offer (15GB x 2 months FREE) was immediately available after number activation on OMH ruim ( as I am using TATA, no need to call CC to activate EVDO from back-end.. 04. Has the goodness of Froyo like pinch-zoom home screen, moving apps, installing apps on SD, (comparing my EPIC with Eclair) 05. Has got SWYPE pre-installed and is working great, you wont miss any keypad/keyboard... 06. Phone is thin and beautiful (for my eyes atleast) 07. Network coverage is EXCELLENT comparing my EPIC... 08. Almost all the apps I have installed on EPIC is working without any major issues on the small screen like quick-settings, preHome, TalkingTom, batteryWidget, Tapatalk, IndianRail, QuickPic, QuickOffice, ALMOST all games <but slow, as expected>, dictionaries, media-players, widgets, etc.. 09. UI speed is good (for the price, RAM) 10. WiFi tethering is working great and I use POP's net on my EPIC (as 1x plans are costly) 11. Memory card slot is outside and you need NOT open the cover to remove card as in EPIC.. 12. Last, but NOT the least, it is a BANG-FOR-THE-BUCKS-CDMA-ANDROID-SMARTPHONE, comparing ridiculously high priced official BBs and other official CDMA smartphones... (I bought for 9k 2 weeks back) MINUSES:- (I WON'T compare it with my EPIC here, promise) 1. Resolution is a issue (only) when browsing websites on browser.. (OperaMini comes to rescue) 2. Camera is FixedFocus and GoogleGoggles and BarcodeReader apps are NOT working (other than that the quality of 3MPx camera is more than enough for occasional snaps).. 3. BatteryLife is NOT that great, that is you SHOULD NEVER expect it to run for MORE-THAN-A-DAY-OF-REGULAR-USE... (Further I doubt therez some issue with the battery of mine as its temperature is always higher in the range of 35 to 45 degree centigrade, but my EPIC's is around 22 to 32 degrees only, using Battery_Solo_Widget) Small NUISANCES:- (Means NOT a deal-breaker issues) 1. The placement of power/Lock button, I used to accidently press volume buttons while pressing power button... But it will be sorted out in few days of using the phone (getting used to)... 2. Sometimes the screen will be over-sensitive and phone will get confused with clicking for scrolling up/down... A solution is using half-cm of the index-finger for scrolling, instead of using just the finger-tip... P.S. :- I have bought this for my wife to replace her CorbyCDMA... She is more than happy with this phone... For her, the capacitive screen, multi-touch UI, youtube videos via 3X, soo many Games, webBrowsing on OperaMini, sooo many apps <I have installed some 150 apps now for her>, Swype are like SEVEN_WONDERS...

I don't think govt ever wanted to beat/harm anybody in the stage....Only protesters in the stage wanted to create scene by pelting stones(what type of sathyagraha is it??)...... It was really developing in to a security mess by involvement of outdated saffron forces....Just think why Mayawati didn't allow Ramdev to enter UP....it's a security issue...... IMHO, eviction happened with utmost care..... We must applaud Govt for evicting such non-sense from the capital with very little collateral issues..... Corruption is a virus and must be eradicated through people's movement. The first step is Lokpal draft....The people's movement must not be allowed loose focus on it..... Once Lokpal bill passed, Anna's team can take up next issue. Let then Baba Ramdev do his fast in Haridwar in his multi-crore ashram for bringing back black money. I can bet nobody will ever turn up if he does it in his Ashram by looking at the luxuriant atmosphere prevailing there. I can say with conviction that more than 80% of the donations given to God and Godmen are black money. The most damages due to Lokpal will happen to BJP(especially in Karnataka) and that's the primary reason they want to dilute Lokpal movement with help of Saffron handlers. If BJP was sincere, why didn't their state governments reply to centre's questionnaire on Lokpal??? Is it not delaying tactics??? IMHO, each and every political party in equal measure is scared of Lokpal. Each one trying to sabotage the movement by their own time tested tactics. Congress by sending questionnaire .... BJP by supporting Ramdev's antics...... you looks like a leader/agent of congress.... no person in universe is perfect, same applied to baba and anna but the way congress is behaving is highly undemocratic. and look carefully the videos of the ramlila ground, police is beating people and one lady has broken her spinal cord. even supreme court has issued notice to govt, delhi police for this, then how can can u support this type of action in midnight ....... Yes, MTS guys behave like mad people, especially while framing tariff plans by themselves (not during copying like 1p/2sec local, 29p local, UnLimited onnet)... Their earlier goof-ups are:- 1. Unlimited MBlaze for Rs96 a day with 500MB FUP for 3x and later 128kbps.. 2. Rs999 for UL prepaid-data (with 12GB on 3x) and Rs1098 for 10GB on 3x <<brings about Rs1098+Rs1024 {50p/MB} for 12GB>>.. It is better to use 12GB on 999 plan and then recharge another small denomination to continue in 3x after FUP.. 3. QARP/HARP/ARP MBlaze prepaid plans has NO benefit of cost saving to customers and are merely MONTH_PLAN X No_Of_Months (For eg Rs598 gives 1GB for one month and Rs1794 gives 3GB for 3 months) 4. Recently the 1p/2sec STD plan has FUP of 400 STD mins per month and minimum usage of around Rs180 per month 5. Now this almost same rent for all Blackberry plans...

we compare 2 persons when their aims are different, here anna and baba have same motive, even today anna has come to rajghat to protest aganst ramlila maidan tragedy. then what is the point in comparing baba and anna ? moreover baba may be owner of crores but he has earned it by doing hard work not by looting the public money (like corrupt politicians), millions of people in India and abroad are getting benefit by baba's yoga and medicine. what's wrong with it ? i dont believe that baba has done anything violent, just because some rss leaders are present with baba ? you must know that there were muslim leaders also there on the stage of ramlila ground, now will u say that baba is also indulging islamic terrorism, just because some muslim leaders were there ?

Since this is peak-season for my work, I don't have much time to search and try by trial and error methods... I remember, you have earlier (with name digitalnirvana) showed the methods to force Android to use ad-hoc wifi networks for my rooted EPIC... ^ True some of your points are valid but Ramdev is not opposed to the lokpal bill I think. Plus the government is anyway not going to allow Anna Hazare's version of the bill. Lastly nothing justifies the use of force to drive out the protesters. There is a divergence of opinions here and before it becomes a full blown debate I would stop. We all want corruption free India.

Kesav I do not believe the path is not important. Both the path and the goal are equally important. But I fail to see why Ramdev's path is any worse than Anna's. Both are non violent agitations with an agenda, both are so called satyagrahis, both are unelected civil society members trying to impose their thoughts of anti corruption on the elected government. One has a cleaner image, the other is more media savvy and outspoken. One has following among middle classes, the other has mostly rural mass based support. Their goals are same or similar. Why are you so bothered if RSS or any pro Hindutva leader attends Ramdev's meeting. This is a fact that is being highlighted by the Congress as if it is a crime. I stand to be corrected but has Ramdev put this anti corruption onus only on one religion and barred other religions from attending the fasts meetings etc.? I never have voted the BJP or the Congress never will. I feel very strongly about secular harmony in India and remember Godhra. But I feel very strongly about pseudo secularity and tying up with caste based parties too. If you want to tarnish BJP on Hindutva I will point out Congress wooing caste votes in the cow belt. I think the basic point is pro vs anti corruption. Any one supporting anti corruption in their own way is doing a good job and I will continue to support them. These are voluntary protests Ramdev did not force people to attend neither did Anna so I do not think anyone should question their ways as incorrect.

We might not support Ramdev's way of launching his agitation, but then we must not support how the government of democratic country silences protests. Whatever be Ramdev's intentions, whatever black white money he has, his demands were correct i.e. declare black money as national property and bring it back. This saffron vs secular nonsense is now a dead horse. Do not flog it up. It does not matter if Ramdev is pro Hindutva or anti Hindutva. What matters is he is anti corruption. Anyone can see the UPA is afraid to bow down to Ramdev or Anna because it sets precedent where democratically elected government has to listen to unelected civil society. The Congress has ruled India for the most duration. In turn, it has accumulated the most wealth. It has the most to fear. The centre's questionnaire is a bluff. No political party would be willing to respond to it. No point in slating the BJP. Even the communist parties have lambasted it. The government views the lokpal as a completely different body than what the civic society wants. Please let us not heap mud on Ramdev or anyone else who is working on this anti corruption movement. I do not care if Ramdev is a saint or a con man. I do not care if he has black money. All I know is that he is asking for black money to be seized. If he has black money and willingly taking this risk then kudos. I am fed up like many Indians about this pro people government, India rising, India shining, Bharat Nirman, when all that actually happens is Neta rising, Neta shining. There has never been inclusive growth and there never will. Heck if Hitler was doing a satyagraha now for anti corruption I would support him.

Dude, I was commenting with the big picture in mind, and you are commenting on specifics. When I say the electorate gets what it deserves, it does not automatically follow that politicians are absolved of all evil. How/why do politicians even like Digvijay Sing get to be in government? And thats giving just a worst case example. I agree with what Kshah said somewhere above - whatever stance someone may have about Ramdev, the Govt's action is worthy only of condemnation, and it should be made accountable for its actions.
