SIM cards bought with duplicate IDs, sold without papers Hindustan Times l Mumbai l 31 March 2012 After a month-long investigation, the police on Friday cracked down on a large-scale racket wherein prepaid SIM cards were being provided to customers without identity proofs or related documents. Hundreds of activated SIM cards have been recovered from the accused. The crime branch arrested nine people, including a senior official of a prominent telecom company, who would allegedly obtain the SIM cards using photocopies of documents provided to them by genuine applicants, and then sell them at exorbitant rates. Joint commissioner of police, crime, Himanshu Roy on Friday said that eight of the accused – Ravindra Gajanan Patil, 24, Sunil Batawala, 21, Ravindra Wagmode, 20, Digambar Kole, 34, Ravi Bhuje, 23, Sunny Barati, 27, Ganesh Shinde, 22, Azad Chote Singh, 22 – worked as salesmen for different service providers, while Aslam Islam Sheikh, 33, is the assistant territory manager for the company office at Kurla. The Unit 7 of the crime branch also recovered 379 activated SIM cards, from different network providers, along with more than 550 forged documents. The arrested accused have been charged with cheating and forgery. Such SIM cards might be used by anti-social elements for criminal activities and may harm the national security, police said. The group would take multiple photocopies of genuine customers’ application forms (with valid ID proofs such as address proof, photographs, passport or PAN card copies), who they had issued SIM cards. They would also scan their photographs. Using these photocopies, they would get multiple SIM cards issued from the companies they worked for. “With duplicated documents, hundreds of SIM cards were obtained in one genuine customers’ name,” Roy said. They would sell these SIM cards to customers. “The group sold these at prices ranging between Rs 400 and Rs 1,000 – as against the market price of Rs25-Rs40,” said Roy. Police are worried about the security implications of the racket, which shows the ease with which SIM cards can be obtained using fake identities. If police track any activity on these numbers, it would be traced to the customer who’s duplicate documents were used. “That person would have little clue that hundreds of cards were being issued in his name,” said Roy. The Telephone Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has been informed, so it can begin an inquiry. “It’s a national security concern,” said Roy.

Many years back, the police advised customers to always write the words "document proof for connection No....................." on any document they submit. Guess people are never willing to follow directives.

okay, i did a quick search of my own... gorecharge.com does not seem to have an option for reliange 3g data only plans, the data-card option here shows only reliance netconnect+. rechargeguru.com does provides recharge for reliance 3g data only plans, however the site dosen't look very reliable (no offense please). even though they are using https, my browser warns that sensitive information is being transfered unencrypted..! on further reading, it looks like they do a manual recharge at there end on receipt of the funds. also, they require a lot of personal information for registration. paytm.com seems to provide online recharge for netconnect+, reliance cdma & reliance gsm. not sure whethe it would work for 3g data-only plans. rechargeitnow.com dosen't seem to have any option for 3g data-only recharge. www.justrechargeit.com provides data-card recharges only for netconnect+. ezrecharge.in does not seem to provide any data-card recharges. mobikwik.com -- no 3g data only recharges easymobilerecharge.com -- no 3g data only recharges it seems like there are a plethora of other 3rd party sites which offer online recharges, however except for rechargeguru.com none offer 3g-data-only online recharge. anyway, i probably will visit a reliance outlet tomorrow..

Last great hope? First pics of next-gen BlackBerry 10 smartphone Source Is this RIM's new BlackBerry phone? Want to glimpse the future of BlackBerry? Today, CrackBerry posted a leaked presentation slide that features the first look at a smartphone running the BlackBerry 10 operating system, an upcoming RIM platform that has been no-show, all-tell for months now. With RIM’s drastic loss of market share in North America and the corporation’s fresh shifts of power, the beleaguered company could use a round of positive buzz. If something were to deliver such a feat, it’s London, the code-named device pictured in the leaked document. And it could be RIM's last great hope. Though the BlackBerry-maker teased London and other upcoming phones in a roadmap presentation earlier this month, concrete details remain scarce. But CrackBerry learned the phone is undergoing tests with a 1.5-GHz dual-core TI OMAP 5 processor. The site also surmises the phone could be sold through carriers with CDMA networks. That would make London a vehicle for Verizon or Sprint here in the U.S., but it is expected the phone will see the light of day in the U.K. before rising over our shores. Until then, we can only appreciate what’s teased in the leak. For instance, the all-touch interface that eschews the BlackBerry keyboard in favor of something reminiscent of modern devices from Android, Apple, and Windows Phone. Also the back- and front-facing cameras, and an interface that anchors some navigation to the bottom of the touchscreen. If we made $10,000 gentleman’s bets, we’d also wager that the edges, top, and bottom of London will feature a soft-touch, rubber material, but it’s much too early to gamble. In a fit of mistaken identity, London’s geography was thought to be revealed in a separate leak last year. While that phone was capped at the top and bottom with a steel-ish material and wore sharply tappered edges, today’s feature has more rounded curves and an all black outfit. BlackBerry has asked the real London to please stand up on September 2012, so we’ll have to wait to learn more about the true premier BlackBerry 10 phone.

For Shop and Ship Viz Aramex, They have import licence and are authorised CHA (Clearing House Agent). I suggest that you email them Invoice+Payment Advice+US Tracking# on the same day that its going to reach their NY, US warehouse. Since as per Indian Customs, Carriers have to file Import Manifest at-least 24 hours before Arrival by courier (72 Hours for Items coming thru Ship). So its better you that you provide required stuff to them on time so that they file correct manifest & item is cleared on time.
