4 pointsIt's great to share with you the 9th Anniversary of RIMweb.in as yet another eventful year has passed by. It has always seemed possible and today we are here celebrating an occasion close to our hearts! In 2012, we saw an upsurge in smartphone usage and popularity among our members thanks to Android. RIMweb.in would like to thank all its handset sellers for bringing a wide range of high end CDMA handsets for all members at the cheapest prices and for offerring a hassle free experience with activating both voice and data services on the Reliance CDMA network. The Reputed Seller Group members deserve a special mention for making the voice/data activation process much easier for everyone on their high end CDMA handsets which would have otherwise been a tough nut to crack on CDMA. Given the enormous growth and development of the smartphone & tablet market in 2012, we can expect some highly groundbreaking developments for high speed data services in 2013. It is shaping up to be the year of 4G / LTE in India according to the industry analysts. Reliance Industries' telecom subsidiary, Infotel Broadband, is expected to be game changer who is getting ready to unleash voice over data services when it launches high-end data services hopefully by the second half of 2013. Infotel Broadband is expected to shake up the telecom market in the same way as it did about a decade ago when it rolled out low-cost mobile services. We have now added a separate section for Infotel Broadband 4G LTE and will evolve it further according to the developments in the future. We would like to give a heads up that our Super Moderator Ashok Karkera is organizing a RIMweb Meet in Mumbai on the 6th of January, 2013. The date & place is tentative as of now; and you can keep in sync about the event in the forum topic and/or Facebook Group page: Keeping in sync with the latest happenings in the telecom & communications industry in India, RIMweb.in has always received commendable support from all you members! Not to forget, RIMweb.in is an unbiased independent / unofficial public discussion forum for the Reliance Mobile subscribers community and evolved later to support the entire Indian telecommunication industry. Today we can proudly say that the discussion forum has managed to help and support fellow members for all their queries, grievances and become a platform for sharing experiences in an efficient and effective manner. It has been a long plausible journey has left its marks on the Internet and in the hearts of many, individually. On behalf of all the members & moderators at RIMweb.in, we would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year - 2013 too! Time to bid Adiós to the year by and Congratulations once again to you, for the 9th Anniversary of the RIMweb Community! As part of the anniversary celebrations... and throwing the toast... we have a lot of goodies for you - the members who has made RIMweb what it is today! We are giving away online vouchers worth Rs.500, Rs.250 and Rs.100 to the top contributing 50 members. 2 pointsSimple suggestion: Avoid sticks/boxes with 512MB RAM (Micromax has 512). 1GB is available now on many at more or less similar cost. Opt for latest Android 4.1 Jelly bean. Available on many and again at similar cost. Having said that, possibly opt for boxes with more ports then going with stick. We had an entire topic here >> Interest check: G-Box II Android TV Box running JellyBean Some members bought and using. The topic gives almost all info you need as well as you can buy if some member there wants to sell.

2 pointsI know many dont want to root the phone but want to have complete backup of their app+data and here is a guide how it can be done: We will see how you can take backup of Android apps along with their associated data and settings without rooting your phone. Those of you who are not running a rooted Android OS and are looking for ways to take backup of saved game content, this tool can help you with that. I am not sure about the fact, but I think that the tool only works for Android devices running Ice Cream Sandwich and above. Still you can try it out on the Ginger Bread devices and let us know if it worked. Of course, you should proceed with caution and only proceed if you are sure because we aren’t responsible if you brick your phone in the process. Note: The tool requires Android SDK to be installed on your computer and if you don’t already have it, you can refer to this article (the first two steps) to install and configure it. Taking a BackupStep 1: Download the latest build on the Ultimate Backup Tool from XDA Developers Site and extract all the contents to a folder. It’s not necessary that you make a folder in the path where you have installed ADB. The tool will automatically detect it on your computer, if it’s installed. Step 2: Turn on USB Debugging on your Android phone and connect it to the computer using the data cable. You can find the option to turn on USB debugging in Android Settings—>Developer options. Check the option and close it. Step 3: Now run the UBT (Ultimate Backup Tool) batch file from the folder you extracted the tool. UTB runs in command line mode and if it detects both: the ADB and the connected device, it will load up after completing initial checks. If the tool fails to load, there might be some problems with your ADB drivers or USB Debugging mode which you will have to check. Step 4: After the tool loads up, the first thing you will have to do is configure the backup directory. The default directory that the tool uses is C:\backup and the best thing to do would be to keep it as it is. Having done that, you will see many backup options that it provides and each of them will have a number associated with it. If you would like to backup all the apps along with its associated data, select the option 4 and press Enter. Step 5: The tool will start the backup process and prompt you to confirm the same on your phone. You can provide an optional encryption password before taking the backup. After the tool completes the backup process, you will get a confirmation dialog box notifying you about the same. The backup process may take a considerable amount of time depending upon the number of applications installed on your device. So that was how you can take the backup of the apps. Let’s now see how to restore it. Note: Currently there is no way to take backup of only selected apps. It’s either everything or nothing. Restoring a BackupWhen you want to restore the apps, connect the device to your computer using the data cable and run the Ultimate Backup Tool batch file. This time select option 8 corresponding to restore. Once you start the restore process, the tool will prompt you to confirm it on your phone as well. If you have encrypted the backup, provide the password while restoring the app. That’s all, all the apps along with their associated data and saved content will be eventually restored to your phone. ConclusionI am sure non-rooted Android users who always criticized their phone when it came to backup will love this trick. The only problem with the current version of the tool is that it does not provide selective backup and restore options. But you never know, it might be fixed in the future updates. Source

1 pointHi I recently purchased a LG LED TV 32LS4600 link (http://www.lg.com/in/tvs/lg-32LS4600-led-lcd-tv) for my office use. Primary use is for staff to use during lunch breaks. I am now contemplating to use it for business presentations and client meetings. Basic use is to show ms office, you tube and websites. I have come across two or three options. I request people who have used/ are using these to give me their valuable feedback and to suggest the best alternatives. Option 1. Full HD 1080P HDMI WIF Android 4.0 Media Player Internet TV Box HDTV http://www.ebay.in/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=271019892699 Option 2. Can i use Logitech K400 Wireless Touch Keyboard K400 (link http://www.ebay.in/itm/Logitech-K400-Wireless-Touch-Keyboard-K400-Warranty-/271134523492?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_203&hash=item3f20e08064#ht_5559wt_906) with any of these. The default ones that comes with these are not user friendly. Awaiting valuable suggestions. Mods please move this to the appropriate thread as per forum rules if necessary. Thanks Arun

1 pointhahaha Was way too tied up since the meet, office work (life of an entrepreneur ain't easy ... and I guess I know it best now) , the day I thought I'll get to doing it - was my best friend's roze (its a pre marital ceremony amongst catholics - and I was out there the whole evening). Tried to do it yesterday at office - and boom - I got a training program today (in 7 hrs) - so preparing for that (and my buddy's wedding day after).. I'll still add a quick report I landed up at Joggers Park, right about the promised time - and I met Neerajayshree and Sadanand Sakpal - I was dead certain at that time - that this is going to be a different meet. Being honest, I had confirmation from 3 others as of that time - but no one seemed to have arrived. We started the evening searching for a comfortable place to sit - and thankfully, found a grassy patch real close by. Just as we sat down, we had Cdr. Rahul walk in, a real down to earth guy - who's with the Indian Navy! Shortly followed by Mujeeb - and thats where the discussions started We went for a quick introduction, getting to know each other - and boom - I started by playing a small trick - I started calling the members from their own phone numbers - this caught the attention of almost all ... in the mean while - people started trickling in one by one - till it looked like we were soon gonna need a shamiana and a marriage caterer Swapnil, Sunilji, Jyoti and Pradeep joined in shortly. The next discussion was on getting google voice to be used on the mobile - and hey that's a fab trick Some questions about the forum rules were discussed - and then we went out for a quick bite - some frankies - I was super surprised to see that my girl was spying on me - trying to figure out how did I call her from her own number - and she was in the park itself !! The next meet is planned shortly - and I really hope we have max participation then too Amit and sanjay were missed, till I was reminded... ooops sorry. You guys were awesome too was too preoccupied last night. Regards and thanks to all members who joined in (PS : Thane should be the Rimweb capital .. helluva lot of members from Thane - ambernath belt) Cheers AK

1 pointCan we try and keep specific amount as security deposit from a new seller before he starts selling on this forum(with mods, i guess thats the safest). The security can be refunded once the seller reaches to a point with enough reputation that he needs not be kept under monitoring. Also, the number of sales that can be done at a time can be restricted to may one or specific amount till that period. Once the feedback is received, the new seller can put another product for sale. In this case specifically we saw the user kept on mounting posts untill he reached the level of posting a new topic and then...everyone knows the rest....

1 pointOne off fly-by-night operators like AP are as it is NOT required on the forum. Only regulars should be allowed for sell transactions and this phone number verification, though not fool-proof, will be a step in the right direction. one question , im pre-assuming that you own a postpaid reliance number, what if the rule is to have a compulsory airtel or vodafone number ? will you do so ? The forum's name is RIMweb, it is primarily a Reliance Phone owners/CDMA owners forum. That is how it was started and has gradually matured over the years. I also sell my phone to upgrade, but then I have a reliable history of selling gradually made over the years. WE DO NOT REQUIRE FLY BY NIGHT operators, whether he's just here to sell 1 phone. If that hampers some very infrequent genuine sellers, then so be it. The name of the forum should not be dragged in even a single non-honest transaction and strict measures are needed for it. Either become a reputed seller with your deeds or just quit coming here.

1 pointQuick tip for using HCC on phones which dont show keypad while activating on *228 Use the Add Wait feature available in dial-pad, screenshots attached for help. Sample dial string will be: *228;1;123456789;1 *228 - number of course to dial 1 - for choosing English option, can be replaced by any other language option 123456789 - number printed on HCC 1 - is for confirming HCC number that you have input Have used this trick on S2 and Galaxy nexus and works like charm. More tips: - Increase the screen timeout to 5 - 10 mins as the prompts will now show if screen shuts down - Put call on speaker mode / increase call volume, basically dont bring near ear coz the screen will switch off coz of proximity sensor and prompts will not come up. Hope it helps

1 pointThat's really a good idea Simplest answer to all query, since we already have feedback system in place. My suggestion here is that 1)what if we can have a brief disclaimer in all the selling post so every buyer, newbie or old member, knows pros & cons before buying. 2) Also buyer knows the risk of involving in the transaction & RimWeb.in & moderators shall nowhere liable to face legal issues if buyer is at any kind of loss due to involving in transaction from sell post. 3) What if we have restrict buyers to be above 18 only... bacho ka khel nahi... Ebay being a Global Site has also not been able to be stop scam & is not full proof. There are as many as 15 to 20 loopholes which i personally know.on Ebay.Com scam takes place almost every 15 minute if not a minute. Scammers will scam, we shall have basic precautions & measures in place to ensure buyers safety. Lastly we here for exchange of knowledge & not just buy & sell...... Isnt it... The way discussion has taken place from the issue of AP, ( Escrow, Payment Gateway, Centralised banking) i will not wonder if we will end up having Ecommerce website of RimWeb... eRimweb.. Lol..

1 pointGood practical observations from Arun as always. As you rightly said, it was a "rarest of the rare" case and i do feel that any/all of the proposed changes under consideration should surely work for 99% of the transactions. Even Ebay with all its systems/control in place and being a commercial organisation has certain number of fraud cases. We being a non commercial community can't ever have something which can totally avoid cases like AP. We started the discussion just to improve/modify things in light of past experience gained. Our past experience suggests that even with the current guidelines, majority of the transactions have been trouble free. So the changes can make it only better. This can be done but i doubt whether it will work in practice. Majority of the people may finish the transaction through pm & such thing. As we had seen in AP's case, even some of the older members rushed & bought. The motivation was purely because the items looked cheaper, nobody considered the safety aspect. Human nature is like that, saving a few bucks. We may consider Ebay listing as optional upon the buyer's choice. Those who like the safety can request the item to be listed on Ebay. Those who are OK can go ahead with the transaction as it is. As we have observed, majority of the past transactions here have been trouble free. Completely agree. Escrow service is a non starter. Don't think there is any express legal provision OR privacy law in india which makes it illegal for us to demand ID/address proof. User's IP addresses are alreadymonitored/recorded to identify the persons for any troublesome posts OR for complying with any request/direction from the authorities. All Users consents to this when they agree to our "Terms of Service". The "Terms of Service" may be suitably modified to mention that the user consents to provide ID/address proof for availing additional member facilities like Buy-Sell. Good idea worth trying.
