4 pointsUbuntu OS Developer Preview Now Available For Nexus Devices Source As promised, Canonical has released the developer previews of its Ubuntu smartphone and tablet OS for Nexus devices. Available now for flashing on Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 7 (Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi+3G), Nexus 4 and Nexus 10, the preview images can be downloaded now from Ubuntu website. There are two ways to flash these images, either you can use the method given by Canonical on the Ubuntu website, which requires access to Ubuntu or if you have a Custom recovery on your Nexus device, you can simply flash ZIP files using that. If you want to use Canonical’s method, head over here and follow the instructions. If you want to use a custom recovery, read on. First download the respective files for your device - Device Zip: manta (Nexus 10) | grouper (Nexus 7) | mako (Nexus 4) | maguro (Galaxy Nexus) Phablet armhf zip: Download (Required for all devices) Reboot your phone/tablet in custom recovery Install the device zip downloaded earlier. Install the Phablet armhf zip Reboot and you are done What to expect after flashing Ubuntu OS: Shell and core applications Connection to the GSM network (on Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 4) Phone calls and SMS (on Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 4) Networking via Wi-Fi Functional camera (front and back) Device accessible through the Android Developer Bridge tool (adb)

2 pointsUbuntu comes to Android Ubuntu has come to Android phones! Before you go, ‘Does that mean I can boot Ubuntu on my Android phone? Or, does that mean I can get dual booting on my Android phone?’ let's clear out a few things. Canonical has announced Ubuntu for Android and the full scale deployment will be displayed at the Mobile World Congress. Here’s what you’ll get to see. If your Android has Ubuntu installed, you can boot the Ubuntu operating system onto your monitor every time you connect the smartphone using a dock. On its own, the OS is neatly hidden under the hood, so when you’re using your phone, you’ll have your regular Android stuff loading up. It’s somewhat similar to what Motorola has tried in the recent past, with their Webtop accessories, but this is on a more universal level. Also, whenever your phone is connected, it’s not a stripped down version of Ubuntu that you’ll get to see, but, it will be the exact same thing that you see on a desktop running Ubuntu, with no compromises, whatsoever. Browsers like Chrome, Firefox and their Unity UI, everything will be available on your desktop. What’s interesting to note is that your core details, including SMS, voice calls and contacts will be shared between the two, so there’ll be some good amount of consistency. If you’re having a desktop PC running Windows, Ubuntu will also be able to boot into a virtual environment, which may be of great help to a lot of companies. They’ve also managed support for connectivity options, including, USB, HDMI, Google Docs and 4G LTE, so you can have seamless interaction between your phone and your desktop. So, what’s the limitation? Of course, the most obvious one will be the minimum spec requirements – Ubuntu will, at a minimum require a multi core smartphone. Dual cores are already existent and quad cores are coming soon, so if you’re buying one of the top-end smartphones in the near future, there’s a lot you can look forward to. What do you guys think about Ubuntu being announced for Android? Courtesy : Tech2 Thanks to Karan Shah

2 pointsMay I suggest a tad addition in statutory declaration in the sell posts? Software is as important as the hardware. So, I opine there should be a point for OS description of the handsets (mostly mobile phones are offered for sale I presume). The seller must describe which OS the handset is currently in; whether in stock or any modifications have brought into it. Whether any other software modifications have been carried out e.g. rooting and custom ROM in android. And there may be a subsection which will cover software lacunae, if any.

1 pointInstalled on my nexus 4 but had to roll back to STOCK JB as most of the things are broken. Only thing working is phone calls and WiFi. Sms doesn't work at all for me don't know for others. Probably we need to wait for some more time to have it as daily driver. But never the less its good to see the developments in ubuntu I am sure we would have it as daily driver soon. 1 pointMost of us have been using cellphones imported from US. The Librarian of Congress had made unlocking of cell phones (bootloader & unlocking for gsm phones) illegal from 26th Jan under DMCA. Whitehouse has put up a page for signing petition to make it legal again and had set the benchmark figure of min 100000 petitions from 5000 earlier. Below is the link and the counter needs only 1288 more petitions as im writing this. Pls support this, i know we may not be fully equipped or have a right but lets sign this petition as this affects us too in some or the other way. https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/make-unlocking-cell-phones-legal/1g9KhZG7

1 pointSony did a peculiar thing during their unveiling of PS4, they actually hid the device form the viewers ! understanding that they are still working on product final design and on hurry to launch their gaming flagship ahead of Microsoft's to gain a strategic jumpstart. As sony says its only an "introduction" and not launching event that happened on yesterday for US (Indian's today), along with their console sony also revamped dual shock controller with Dual shock 4, with all new design. watch dogs is a notable game that is being bundled with the launch of few games that PS4 has launched with watch dogs trailer - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1U8KsQPIrY0 Here is the official releasing note from SONY source: live event source for official note: http://in.playstation.com/home/news/articles/detail/item583707/Say-hello-to-PlayStation-4/ The curtain is lifted on the future of gaming. Here's your rundown on the news from PlayStation Meeting 2013 in New York. Discover what's been revealed so far about PlayStation 4, the new DUALSHOCK 4 controller and the initial games line-up. PlayStation 4 PS4 promises games that can be experienced whenever, wherever and however you want, thanks to a system specially built to cater to the needs of the best developers in the world. You'll be able to play digital titles as they download from PlayStation Store, and update PS4 even when it is switched off. Immediately pick up any saved game where you left off – the "suspend mode" of PS4 gets rid of loading times and lets you carry on by simply pressing the power button. Gaikai technology will let you instantly try out sections of any game that catches your eye on PlayStation Store. Check out what your friends are up to and see the games, TV shows, movies and music recommended especially for you on the newly designed PS4 menu screen. Broadcast as you play via Ustream. If you get stuck, your mates can join in to help you or offer comments in real time. You can use a variety of applications, such as a web browser, while you play a game. Your favourite PS4 games will be playable on PlayStation Vita via Wi-Fi with Remote Play. Meanwhile, the new PlayStation App lets you turn your smartphone into a second screen – for example, to let you view a map or see how a friend is tackling the same part of a game. DUALSHOCK 4 A new, built-in sensor will enable highly sensitive motion control. You'll be able to interact with games in new ways thanks to a touch pad on the front of the controller. The controller's familiar dual analog sticks have been enhanced to provide better precision. New, curved L2 and R2 buttons will give you greater control. 1 pointWow ! This is great news. Considering that most phones are getting phenomenal processing power these days, this was inevitable. It seems much better than the Motorol Atrix WebTop implementation of ubuntu. Have recently been running Ubuntu on Nexus S, but it requires a lot of hacks. This would be much better / hassle free and quite useful when you don't have your laptop handy.
