Offcourse YES, but only if you try to raise your voice against any thing. As long as you are quiet and keep on accepting the increasing levels of authoritarianism & crony capitalism etc you will be comfortable. That is the main problem with selectively enforced laws, which are a sign of most corrupt governments. When they want they can arrest someone for a facebook post. Even a facebook Like ! Otherwise, they will not enforce the law and claim it is causing no harm. For example, the liquor permit in Mumbai - no one is usually caught for drinking without permit. But if you are on the wrong side of any government representative then you can be caught easily so that you are fixed. So once you have very little privacy the government can find out everything about someone they want to fix and then prosecute for any small oversight. However, if the people want to find out any wrong doing of the Government there are a numerous official secrets act and such stuff to stop you. Even after RTI many government departments take months and years to give you the required information. BMC in mumbai has been trying to keep building plans out of RTI. But if you complain about any illegal construction they reply that you have not submitted any proof by way of building plan ! So, it is only a matter of principle that Governments who have been chosen by the people for the limited purpose of governing a region should be completely transparent while individual people should have full privacy unless information is required by a proper judicial order. And it is not just the government who can misuse these things, once the information is with a government department, some people/companies will just pay off someone and get the info (like the Radia Tapes for example). If we go by the argument that something should be allowed just because it helps catch a few terrorists and for that we can inconvenience 100 Crore law abiding citizens, then there will be nothing left. Anything that can be used by a terrorist would be controlled and soon you would need a PAN card to get water - because terrorists drink water and checking ID before giving water will catch all terrorists. In fact, this type of escalating attacks on the citizens privacy and rights is exactly what the terrorists want. It starts turning the people against the government slowly and has ever increasing costs of security but without any benefit at all. Besides, if a Law Enforcement agency like NSA etc can not follow the the letter & spirit of the law and is hell bent of twisting the rules then it just can not be trusted any more and should be disbanded. Umm.. Sorry, I think this is a little Off Topic. And too long. Was waiting for coffee to start my day and kept on typing till coffee came !

Stay on 4.1.1 LK3 and data will work on CDMA/EvDo on OMH without any setting. GSM band is also available in this version. However you need push apns-conf.xml into etc folder after being rooted for GSM/UMTS data.

Story of Facebook, Google is different. They will at the MAX give targeted ads (not a bad deal for services / entertainment they are providing for FREE) and get some money. Further there are ways to AVOID them or control the infos given to them. For eg, you can give FAKE DOB, etc.. But its NOT the case in Govt... It is the individual who is part of Govt is the issue... If they are NOT good (true in most if not ALL parts of world) then its NOT a good thing, imho. I can give you an example, they can know that you and your area members are NOT supporting their party and ignore your area for some development activities.. Further after getting details, TARGETED INDIVIDUAL attacks will be very very simple. Remember power of Google is negligible comparing Govt... FB is nothing comparing FBI...

that's true of most parties, crores of people vote for congress or gandhis regardless of the candidate so the 'risk' is similar i would argue its less risky since at least 1st timers have not yet taken any bribes so are always less corrupt by definition!

Hmm..., the thing about NSA-PRISM is that it is not restricted to the preventing 'Terrorist Activities', but also been used to spy on many things happening around many more countries(even allies of US like U.K,India & so on). And if you collect anything & everything of every one then there is very very high chance of that information being used for abuse(on all fronts), may not be by NSA as a institution but the employees working for it. Seriously, what the internal political developments of India got to do in preventing Terrorist activities. As far as Facebook & other social networks, you are not obliged or forced to use them and give your personal information, but with NSA-PRISM it's not the case like it or not, terrorist or not, you will be monitored 24/7, that's what people & other countries(allies of US) finding it hard to swallow. And if they are able to control the camera of your phone & record the microphone, it means that they are with you even if you are in your bed room with every thing closed. In another news, Apple has come out and issued a public statement, that they are not at all involved with NSA in spying on their customers(the statement which is expected by any one in the position of Apple). Here is the full statement. "Apple has never worked with the NSA to create a backdoor in any of our products, including iPhone. Additionally, we have been unaware of this alleged NSA program targeting our products. We care deeply about our customers’ privacy and security. Our team is continuously working to make our products even more secure, and we make it easy for customers to keep their software up to date with the latest advancements. Whenever we hear about attempts to undermine Apple’s industry-leading security, we thoroughly investigate and take appropriate steps to protect our customers. We will continue to use our resources to stay ahead of malicious hackers and defend our customers from security attacks, regardless of who’s behind them."

MODS : If this topic is not relevant here, kindly move it to relevant one with a title, as I am unable to find anything related. However, it is very useful. Objective : If you have datacard like ec122 (cdma unlocked) or any other GSM Based dongle & want to use that datacard's internet on your other device like phone / tablet you can do it if you have basic wifi router.. As such there are Three options below: 1) Make a virtual hot-spot (ad-hoc wireless connection) & share your Datacard's internet connection by Win7 hotspot. Problem, so far I know, Android device don't connect to Ad-hoc network. I had blackberry in past, which used to get connected. 2) Buy something like this (http://goo.gl/nGLKgL) << A kind of MiFi device, which creates a wifi hotspot with your datacard. But, this one will require extra spending on top of datacard. In addition to that, range will not be too good considering typical requirement portable wifi device caters to. 3) Relay your internet connection (from Datacard) through your wifi router. (Assuming you already have one, as compare to datacard and portable wifi device, normal wifi routers are more prevalent). I won't do any copy/paste job, so here you go >> http://goo.gl/MnSdMT I have been able to connect my datacard (huawei ec122 cdma unlocked) with my D-link router (DIR-524) on Win7-64 bit. And it works perfectly. Best, thing about this method 3 is range & wifi signal strength. I have used win7 connection in past, & signal strength was major issue, when encountered a wall or two. I have not tried portable router, so can't compare, but now who needs it anyways Solutions for 1 & 2 also exist in case it is the only option. For 1, there are software's like ConnectyFly / Virtual Router, which I had tried in past, but was not able to connect android phone (guess, I may have not set it up correctly). But, even in that case, range will be limited by your laptop's wifi hardware capability. For 2, If requirement is similar & above technical things don't really suit you, you can consider Tp-link as well (http://goo.gl/ELZcjk).

@kalpesh ji This can't be avoided... Especially with AK ruling with support of Congress.. Now they can't blame Congress, can't probe the Robert's scam in Noida and other areas. But will blame BJP who ruled few decades back. IMHO, they should have avoided Congress support and have gone for re-election. I have already said that money for re-election is BS. Stable rule is very important. Without a single doubt, in the re-election the fight will be between BJP and AAP ONLY (as every one knows Cong is a loser). Finally there will be a CLEAR winner and most probably AAP. Now fighting corruption with the support of the MOST corrupted people (I am NOT saying BJP is clean), will LOOK like DRAMA only, IMHO...

Having read all the posts above with interest with regard to AAP, I must say that AK, having made his promises, is finding it extremely difficult to implement any of his manifesto issues. Reduction in Electricity bills may have been achieved but this is through subsidy which means the Elec Co continues to earn what they were earning earlier. The eventual loser is you and me (tax payers) who are subsidising a select few. Why should that happen. Even with regard to the Water promise, the 700 litre freebie suddenly seems too much. AK had promised to implement the Jan Lokpal Bill immediately but when confronted with corruption issues against the former CM and Cong members, he suddenly demands proof from BJP. If I remember correctly, this was the same AK who became famous for his shoot (without proof) and scoot. In the end, he wants to equate Cong and BJP and blame both the parties for the corruption in Delhi, even though it has been the Cong that has been ruling Delhi for past so many years. He has also suddenly developed Prime Ministerial aspirations and wants to project himself as a the only viable alternative to the Cong in centre. His party members have been openly supportive of militancy and seperatists in Kashmir, something that I as a citizen certainly do not wish to hear from my elected members. Arvind Kejriwal, honestly, you have not managed to convince me of your honesty of purpose. Something seems fishy and more than a bit, at that!

So I finally decided to try out BSNL WiMAX (Mobile WiMAX 802.16e) as it launched recently in Trivandrum. I couldn't find anyone who used it for their experience or reviews, so I decided to try it out myself. Being a new technology that meets the requirements of 4G, its surprising that we are able to use Mobile WiMAX here when even 3G is expected to start after several months only. The EVDO service from BSNL hasn't lived up to the expectations as there were too many network issues and even BSNL officials won't recommend EVDO now and would suggest opting for 3G or WiMAX instead. So they are fully focused on building a good WiMAX network nationwide while the other operators are still bidding for a BWA license. BSNL offers Mobile WiMAX through 3 types of equipments... an outdoor CPE (Customer Premises Equipment), an indoor CPE and a USB dongle. They will give you the connection after checking the feasibility in your area only. So if the signal is very weak in your place then you will have to opt for the outdoor CPE which consists of an antenna to be fixed on top of your building and connected to a receiver near your PC using cable. However there is no portability with an outdoor CPE setup and makes it similar to Fixed WiMAX setup. The more portable option is the indoor CPE which looks like a normal DSL router with 2 large antennas. This equipment is recommended if you have average signal in your area. Even though the device needs to be connected to your PC via LAN, you can place the device anywhere (with a power plug nearby) and you can even use it in other places (under different towers) where there is BSNL WiMAX coverage. The most convenient device is the USB dongle as it doesn't need power and easy to carry around with a laptop. However there are reported technical issues with the USB dongle device at the moment and hence BSNL is not recommending it for now. Once the issue is sorted out you can swap your indoor/outdoor CPE with a USB dongle if you opt for FMC (see below). The device cost is as follows: Outdoor CPE: Rs.5000 Indoor CPE: Rs.4200 USB Dongle: Rs.2800 I would not recommend purchasing the device outright as you have an option to pay monthly (FMC - Fixed Monthly Charge) instead, which needs a refundable deposit of Rs.2000. You can pay Rs.50 (Indoor/Outdoor CPE) or Rs.40 (USB Dongle) per month instead which allows you the freedom to swap the device later if needed. It also gives you warranty for the device as long as you have the service active. BSNL WiMAX has different plans for different states and in Kerala the only plan available for home users is "512 to 2 mbps download speed with unlimited data usage for Rs.999 + tax" So I heard about the newly launched service and I got the contact number of an official who handles BSNL WiMAX in Trivandrum and he told me that I can just send an SMS to book the connection. He also gave me the contact number of a marketing executive and so I called him to book the connection. He told me about the issue with USB dongle at that time and promised someone would come the same day to check feasibility in my area. However they couldn't make it that day and came the next day with the indoor CPE equipment. The device is an "ICOMM 610 Indoor CPE" They switched on the device and got connected immediately as the device was pre-configured with BSNL test service login. Fortunately for me the signal in my area was extremely good as the Base Station tower was just under half a kilometer away. They say that a base station tower can handle around 5 kilometer radius with an indoor CPE. The minimum CINR value required is 10 dB and I was getting above 20 dB with full range shown in the device indicator lights. They asked me to browse and check myself, I tried some downloads and noticed an average speed of 2 mbps. As the download speed was good I decided to go ahead and filled up the application form. Since the test equipment that they brought along was a new one, they gave me the same device after removing the BSNL test login from the configuration page. I was told that they would create a new login (needs to be done in their office in Bangalore) for me which I have to configure in the device settings page. Since it was the weekend they couldn't get me the login the same day and I had to wait until Monday to get the login details, and I finally got connected to BSNL WiMAX on Monday. It seems they are leasing a common IP adddress for WiMAX users since I notice the same IP address whenever I connect. Static IP address option is available at an extra cost (for Business plans). I notice that the "common IP address" that they provice is listed on an RBL which is a concern, though I think its the BSNL IP range that is blocked. I did some downloads and noticed that the download speed is always stable and I do get up to 2 mbps download speed as promised: I noticed an issue with the default DNS servers as resolution of domain names either takes long time or doesn't resolve at all. So I changed to external DNS addresses in the LAN configuration and it has been fine after that. Even though the download speed was very good, the upload speed was very bad at I was getting an average upload speed of around 65 - 75 kbps only. So it will be a problem if you have file uploads to do and will decrease your torrent ratio if you have torrent usage. I also noticed that the download speed gets affected when there is an upload in progress. I have checked VPN connectivity and it is working fine. Applications like Remote Desktop are also working fine. My verdict: After using the service for a couple of days it does look very stable and the download speed hasn't dropped as I get 2 mpbs constantly. A 2 mbps download speed plan with unlimited data usage for Rs.999 per month and mobility too is definitely a very good plan and I don't think any other broadband plan in India can beat that for now. Being a new service it is good to see BSNL doing well in the initial stages itself and I hope the service will get even better.
