Press Trust of India August 09, 2007 16:48 IST People using mobile phones for more than four years and longer than 30 minutes a day are at risk of developing hearing loss particularly at higher speech frequencies, a study conducted by Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research at Chandigarh has said. "This hearing loss was more in the dominant ear (ear of use). Presence of fullness in the ears, ear warmth, strange noises in the ear are warning signals which should not be ignored," Dr Naresh Panda, head of the department of Otolaryngology at PGIMER, who along with his team conducted the 18-month long study, said. He said the aim of the study, which is a preliminary one, done on 100 long term mobile phone users from Chandigarh, was to assess if long term mobile phone use had any adverse effect on hearing and central auditory pathways. Panda said the study was conducted on people between the age group of 18-45 years and those who were using GSM handsets. The study group was divided into three categories -- those using mobile phones for 1-2 years, 2-3 years and 3-4 years and above. Asked if PGIMER was suggesting that people should stop using mobile phones, Panda said it was just a preliminary study and our aim is not to spread panic among the public. All we are saying that people should limit or curtail their usage and take measures like using ear phones.

This issue has been fixed now. There was a compatibility issue between Invision Power Board and the latest FireFox version. Thanks for informing about it. (Vishal, hope you found it out now ! )

When did it start loosing the network ? from the time you got the handset ? or did it start all of a sudden ? did you change any setting or used QPST before it started loosing the network ?

Thanks for the input Amtrag. I was planning to get Canon Powershot A630, but after seeing the A710, I'm confused which to go for. The A630 has 8 megapixels, and 7.1 megapixels for A710, but I think the 6x optical zoom (compared to 4x) and the Image Stabilizer of A710 will be great to have. The price difference seems to be around Rs.1500 edit: just noticed A710 doesn't have a swivel display

Press Trust Of India New Delhi, August 05, 2007 Reliance mobile users will soon be able to send money orders through their handsets, with the company exploring tie-ups with financial institutions for the service that will see its about 1.5 lakh retail outlets doubling as collection points. "We will launch a new service -- Mobile Money Order in Reliance mobiles, which will enable people to send and receive money through their handsets. About 1.5 lakh retail outlets of the company will act as collection points," Reliance Communications President (Applications, Solutions and Content Group) Mahesh Prasad told PTI. The service is expected to be launched by the year end, he said, adding: "We are closely working with financial institutions and banks for introducing this service." Reliance has a mobile subscriber base of over 31 million. With this, the company is aiming to capture a significant market share in the Rs 5,000 crore Value-Added Service (VAS) industry. "VAS currently contributes 10-15 per cent of the service providers revenues. The market for VAS is expected to reach Rs 5,000 crore by this year end from Rs 2,750 crore last year," Prasad said. The company is also looking at various other verticals such as finance, e-medicine and advisory services among others for introducing VAS on its mobile network. He said we are evaluating the possibility of developing regional content such as something that would be of interest to a farmer like prices of agri items at the local market. VAS in the financial space may include information on loans, insurance schemes and collection of premium. Through e-medicine, customers in the rural areas would be able to locate primary medical centres and details of visiting doctors specific to their village.

Reliance Communications To Start Providing Dual Band Handsets !
Arun posted a topic in Reliance Communications
NDTV Thursday, July 26, 2007 (New Delhi): Anil Ambani may have stopped running after GSM spectrum but he hasn't slowed down on his plans to make Reliance Communication phones work anywhere in the country. Reliance operates on the CDMA platform but 70 per cent of phones are on the rival GSM system and today there's no phone that can talk across both the platforms. However that could change soon. Sources have told NDTV that Reliance Communication is importing phones that use two chips, one for CDMA and the other for GSM. Reliance Communication has already tied up with suppliers and will launch these handsets in the next two months. With these handsets in the market, CDMA users will no longer be forced to use only one technology. They will be able to roam on GSM and it would be especially useful for those traveling to Europe. Roaming advantage Subscribers within the country will also be able to roam using GSM and Reliance's 3.5 million GSM subscribers in 8 telecom circles will be able to roam on its CDMA network across the country. Interestingly, Reliance Communication is also looking at ways in allowing its subscribers freedom to use GSM networks of rivals as well. It plans to charge roaming rates from subscribers who may want to use other GSM networks. But bundled handsets will definitely have a lock-in period. While Reliance Communication is still working out how it plans to leverage its dual chip handset, it will keep its fingers crossed that government rules on use of dual technology doesn't change. After all that's one of the important issues the telecom regulator TRAI is deliberating on. -
If you do not have much travelling to do, then defenitely a desktop is better... more speed and lesser maintenance cost. An Intel Core 2 Duo or Intel Dual Core 3 Ghz processor.... with Intel 965 mother board... 2 GB DDR 2 667 Mhz RAM... 250 GB SATAII Hard Disk will rock (more than enough for home use actually and you can use Windows Vista on the above configuration without any issues). Since you are in Chennai, I guess AirTel Broadband will be good... go for an unlimited 256 connection at Rs.1000 + tax per month. If you have a BSNL landline, then you can try BSNL DataOne's Home 500 plan, Rs.500 + tax /month for 2 mbps connection (2.5 GB data transfer per month during day time and unlimited between 2 AM to 8 AM).
