  2. Reliance Communications may get additional spectrum, but only for CDMA Financial Express - Monday, May 14, 2007 at 0028 hours IST A committee of the department of telecommunications (DoT) has recommended that extra spectrum be allowed only for the technology mobile operators have chosen to use initially. This could deal a big blow to Reliance Communications’ plans of shifting from the CDMA to the GSM technology. Reliance Communications, India’s second largest mobile operator, is originally a CDMA operator, but has applied for GSM spectrum across the country. The DoT proposal will prevent mobile operators with unified access service licence (UASL) from getting extra spectrum for technologies other than what they had opted for originally. Though the UASL itself is technology-neutral, if a service provider chooses CDMA technology to start with, it would be entitled to extra spectrum only in CDMA. RComm had sought GSM spectrum in its application to the wireless planning and coordination cell of the DoT last year. The DoT, however, wants to take a policy decision on the issue and has hence kept the RComm application in abeyance. “We want to see if Reliance is a one-off case or others, too, want to do the same,” a DoT official told FE. If the recommendations of the committee were accepted, RComm would get extra spectrum for CDMA services in circles where it was entitled to the spectrum. Since it provides GSM services in eight circles, it will get extra spectrum in these. The company may, however, not get pan-India GSM or CDMA spectrum.
  3. Reliance Communications renews hope for BlackBerry devices.... Reliance Communications to provide Blackberry on CDMA Financial Express - Friday, May 11, 2007 at 0000 hours IST ORLANDO (FLORIDA), MAY 10: The increasingly ubiquitous BlackBerry may soon be available to CDMA subscribers in India. Waterloo (Ontario)-based wireless solutions provider Research in Motion (RIM) is in advanced negotiations with Reliance Communications to offer its CDMA subscribers a range of services on the BlackBerry platform. “CDMA carriers in the US like Verizon have offered BlackBerry services for years. The technology issues have already been sorted out with Reliance. Now, the two sides just have to sit together and hammer out an agreement,” a source confirmed on the sidelines of RIM’s Wireless Enterprise Symposium being held in the balmy central Florida city. News of the possible tie-up with Mumbai-headquartered Reliance Communications comes close on the heels of the launch by Hutch of BlackBerry Connect on a range of GSM devices. BlackBerry devices and BlackBerry Connect is available through Bharti Airtel as well. Devices enabled with BlackBerry Connect can support push-based wireless email with attachment viewing and other features through the BlackBerry Enterprise Server and BlackBerry Internet Server. “India is one of the most strategic markets in the world for us. I personally deal with Sunil Bharti Mittal and those that run other carriers.

I got a 2 GB Kingston miniSD card from Hong Kong for just under 1000 bucks and is working great on my PPC 6700. I also got a Screen Protector from USA, but that was very costly (around Rs.225 per piece) considering the shipping cost and I also ordered a Leather pouch from Hong Kong which I hope will arrive this week.

  15. Will Reliance Work For A Verizon 7135

The short answer is Yes... but it isn't "as simple as contacting Reliance" to make it work with Reliance. You need to program the handset using softwares, but further discussion on it isn't allowed here as it is related to clonning.

  18. 3g Testing To Be Done End May

Yes, Reliance Communications is also testing 3G along with TATA TeleServices. Here is another news source... Advantage CDMA: Telcos can now go in for 3G trials Times News Network Thursday, April 19, 2007 02:53:10 AM This round goes to CDMA players in the ongoing war for third generation (3G) mobile communication services spectrum between followers of the alternative technology standards, GSM and CDMA. After a six-month delay, the department of telecom has finally allocated CDMA-based operators spectrum in the 1900 Mhz frequency to conduct field trials in Hyderabad, where GSM players have already been allowed to try out their 3G services in the 2100 Mhz band. The department of telecom (DoT)’s stated aim is to put to the test, on the ground, the GSM players’ claim that allowing CDMA players to operate the 1900 Mhz band would interfere with their own 3G services, because of overlap between the 1900 Mhz and 2100 Mhz bands. DoT has, however, turned down the CDMA operators’ demands that they be allowed to conduct field trails in the 1900 Mhz band conducted in the locations of Vijayawada, Hubli, Dharwad and Calicut. “We are deeply disappointed,” said Cellular Operators’ Association of India director general TV Ramachandran. COAI represents GSM players like Bharti, Hutch and Idea. “Any small-scale trial cannot duplicate the problems that happen when large-scale deployment takes place. The results would be meaningless,” he said. GSM-based operators have constantly warned that any move to allocate spectrum in the 1900 Mhz band to CDMA players would have an adverse impact on their services offered in the 2100 Mhz band. The DoT in its communication to CDMA operators last week said that “trials should be conducted with reasonable number of BTS of both the systems with proper placement to form a cluster along with large number of users/handsets, which is similar to the situation in a dense traffic area”. It has also added that ‘in case of interference to existing users, the experiment will have to be discounted immediately’. “We have been asked to simulate trials with large number of users in order to provide the requisite data for the Wireless Planning and Co-ordination Wing (WPC) of the DoT to establish that it is possible to have mixed band allocations in India,” a source in the CDMA industry body told ET. Chinese telecom vendor ZTE will provide the equipment and handsets to conduct the trials while the logistics will be provided by AUSPI and its members — Tata Teleservices and Reliance Communications, the source added. The move is also in line with the telecom regulator Trai’s directions. Trai, in its recommendation on 3G did not allocate spectrum in the 1900 Mhz band to CDMA operators, but said, “the government should conduct a trial to verify the practical feasibility of coexistence of mixedband allocations, and in case the coexistence is found feasible and economically practicable, then it should work towards refarming the 1900 Mhz band, specifically 2*10 Mhz to enable future growth of 3G cellular services in India.”

  22. Business Standard Mumbai April 19, 2007 Reliance Communications will be investing around Rs 15,000 crore to set up and install an additional 15,000 base transceiver stations (BTSs) in the country. The company intends to complete the rollout of the BTSs in three months, making it the fastest telecom infrastructure rollout in the country. Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG) director Rajesh Tiwari told Business Standard that the company was working at completing the rollout of towers by July 31, 2007. On completion, the company would have a total of 30,000 BTSs across all its circles in the country. The installation of towers is under the company’s plans to expand both its CDMA and GSM services. According to Tiwari, this is the fastest rollout of BTSs anywhere in the world and requires massive planning both infrastructure and logistics wise. “This is a world record,” he added. Reliance Communications, formerly Reliance Infocomm, had an installed base of over 4,000 BTSs during 2001-2004, which was later increased to 5,000 BTSs by 2005. At present, the company has over 15,000 towers across the country. The company has over 30 million subscribers under both its CDMA and GSM operations and has a presence in 22 circles across the country. The costs of setting up a tower varies. Ground-based towers cost up to Rs 1 crore, depending on the site and terrain. However, rooftop towers can cost only Rs 50,000, besides variable costs such as rent, fuel for generators, air-conditioning and maintenance. The company was in talks China’s Huawei Technologies for sourcing of telecom infrastructure. Tiwari, who was earlier credited for the fastest rollout of CDMA services in the world, is the man behind this mission too. Earlier, when Mukesh Ambani was heading the organisation (before the spilt), Tiwari was credited with rolling out the fastest CDMA services in the world. Reliance Communications had also received shareholders’ approval for hiving off towers into a subsidiary firm.

  24. abhishek, I've replied to you in the other topic.
  25. Discussion Board

Yes, I recommend you to go for Invision Power Board ( www.invisionboard.com ) or vBulletin ( www.vbulletin.com ) rather than phpBB, though both come at a price. You can install them and manage easily, though I wouldn't recommend Godaddy.com as a web host - they oversell and I prefer cPanel for management.
