  1. Nokia 2280 R-conect

What is the error that it shows when the installation fails ? Nokia PC Suite is not necessary for R-Connect installation.
  2. Reliance Prepaid Balance Statement

You cannot get any of the information from any website. You will have to approach the web world and also tell a proper reason on why you need the information (maybe you can make a complaint), in order to check your CDR and Account History.
  3. Nope.... as I had mentioned earlier, Reliance hasn't 'provisioned' it.
  4. 28 June, 2006, Press Trust of India New Delhi: A youth was arrested on charges of hacking Airtel's computer system and accessing the bill details of as many as 26 high-profile customers and demanding Rs one crore from the telecom major for not making it public. Besides accessing their details, Ankit K Srivastava also tried to extract bill information about 59 others, including several senior police and government officials, police said today. The culprit had also tried to access call details of mobile numbers belonging to Police Commissioner K.K. Paul, Joint Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Karnal Singh, and some other officers of the Joint Commissioner rank. Srivastava, a resident of Shipra Sun City, Ghaziabad, was arrested last evening by Special Cell of the Delhi Police after the telecom company informed the police about it, Joint Commissioner (Special Cell) Karnal Singh told PTI here. The accused was produced before Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sanjeev Jain, who sent him to seven days police custody holding that the matter was of "sensitive and of technical nature." He was booked under Section 66 of Information Technology Act, which carries a punishment of three years imprisonment and a fine of Rs two lakh. Prosecution lawyer Rajiv Mohan said Srivastava demanded Rs one crore from Airtel and threatened to make the details public if his demands were not met. The Special Cell traced the alleged offender to his Indira Puram flat in Ghaziabad where he lived along with his brother, who is an employee with an Indian computer firm. His father is Joint Commissioner in the Sales Tax Department in Agra. Two of his relatives are senior Indian Police Service officers. The police claim to have recovered a compact disc containing the stolen call details from Ankit. They have also seized his laptop. Initial probe revealed that the hacker tried to obtain the details of about 60 phones, but could manage to extract data pertaining to just over two-dozen phones. He was produced on Tuesday in the court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate who remanded him to seven-day police custody. The police are probing if Ankit had hacked into the data at anybody's instigation. They are trying to find out whether any media group had conducted a sting operation. "Some more arrests in the case are likely," said a senior police officer. He said relevant section under the Information Technology Act would be added to the case. Meanwhile, the accused youth's lawyer D S Dalal said his client accidentally stumbled upon the bill details of other customers while he was trying to access information about his phone bill. He claimed that Srivastava was trying to bring the "loopholes" in the computer system to the notice of company authorities and had even lodged a complaint with the Ghaziabad police on June 22. AirTel Hacker case: Sahara journalist questioned Express India - June 29, 2006 New Delhi: In another twist to the AirTel "hacking" case lodged against Ankit Srivastava, a Sahara television journalist today told Delhi Police that the 26-year-old had contacted his channel 20 days ago for airing a news report about the loopholes in the Airtel website. The journalist, Ashok Chaturvedi, told Delhi Police the story could not be aired as Airtel had not come up with a definitive reply. “We shot the entire process of the loopholes in the Airtel website as demonstrated by Ankit in our studio in the first week of June. In fact, we asked Ankit to get details of the numbers of some high-profile people to make the news report more stronger," Chaturvedi told Newsline after emerging from a three-hour interrogation at the Special Cell's Lodhi Road office today. Chaturvedi said he told the cops: "We contacted Airtel officials for their version and Airtel officials also visited our office but asked for time. We were in touch daily with Airtel (ever) since." Airtel went to the Special Cell on June 24 with a complaint against Ankit. A case of hacking under the IT Act as well as extortion was lodged the same day as Airtel alleged in the FIR that Ankit had been repeatedly demanding Rs 1 crore from the company for not going public. Newsline reported yesterday that Ankit, son of the Agra Sales Tax Joint Commissioner, had also approached the Ghaziabad SSP Piyush Mordia as early as May 30 with a complaint against Airtel, and had demonstrated the loophole to the SSP. Ankit had attached to the complaint the entire phone details of all 26 numbers he had downloaded exploiting the website’s loopholes. Mordia said Ankit did this "in good faith and said he would file a consumer case against Airtel". On being asked if they were in "regular contact" with Sahara television, Airtel issued an official statement saying: "We have placed the facts of matter with the investigating authorities and are co-operating with them to ensure that a cyber crime such as this is controlled. As the matter is under investigation, it will not be appropriate for us to comment further." Twist in the tale: What Ashok Chaturvedi told Delhi Police: * We shot the entire process of the loopholes in the Airtel website as demonstrated by Ankit in our studio in the first week of June * Asked Ankit to get details of the numbers of some high-profile people to make news report stronger * Story could not be aired as Airtel had not come up with a definitive reply
  5. Anil Ambani, Jacobs haggle for 5 hours Anil extracts volume discounts from Qualcomm Financial Express Thursday, June 29, 2006 23:35 IST NEW DELHI: Qualcomm CEO Paul E Jacobs' last stop in India looks to be the most crucial one. Along with senior executives of Qualcomm, he is learnt to have been in a meeting with Reliance Communications chief Anil Ambani for around five hours on Thursday. Jacobs also met Ambani for a second session over dinner in Mumbai. Jacobs, however, offered to reduce the prices of its handsets by asking the component makers to take a cut and bring them in line with the prices in China. When contacted, Qualcomm officials did not comment on the meeting. Qualcomm ruled out royalty cut on CDMA handsets in his meeting with Ambani, so the two discussed volume-related discounts, sources said. A number of opportunities related to volume discounts were discussed, Jacobs told the media after the marathon meeting. He did not elaborate on "volume", but indicated that it did not necessarily mean subscriber base of an operator. There can be a lot of things related to volumes, he is learnt to have said. However, if Qualcomm takes into account subscriber base, Reliance Communications with around 20 million CDMA subscribers, would emerge the winner. Since Reliance Communications recently indicated its plans to focus significantly on the GSM technology, it was important for Qualcomm to make things attractive for Ambani to continue with the CDMA platform. In fact, a day before meeting Ambani, Jacobs had told the media that he would try to convince Ambani to continue with the CDMA platform. "It seems strange to move from a 3G technology (CDMA) back to a second-generation technology (GSM)," he had said.
  6. The Openwave WAP browser is used to surf WAP based pages on your Kyocera 7135. To use this service, the feature needs to be enabled by the service provider, which Reliance doesn't seem to have configured in the Kyocera 7135s they supplied. You can see a tutorial to configure it here (see under KYOCERA 7135).
  7. As far as I know, MTNL's Garuda service charges 30 paise per 100 kB... thats Rs.3 per MB, which is very costly. Even Reliance R-Connect charges only Rs.2 per MB for extra downloads (on old data based plans).
  8. Sms Gateways Providers...

yup, he is back... must be replying to your emails soon !
  9. June 26, 2006 19:38 IST Business Standard Mobile and fixed phone subscribers can expect a reduction in tariffs with the department of telecom gearing up to effect the annual licence fee cut to 6 per cent from the current circle-based fee of up to 10 per cent after the monsoon session of Parliament ends. The department is preparing a roadmap to cut the current circle-based licensing systems to a uniform 6 per cent, which currently stands at 10, 8 and 6 per cent for A, B and C circles respectively. The cut will be effective after the monsoon session of Parliament, senior DoT officials said. The monsoon session of Parliament is scheduled to start in July and end in August. But officials did not reveal how much revenue-loss would be accruing to the government by this uniform fee, which would result in a reduction in licence fee of up to 4 per cent overall in these two segments. They said DoT expected the upsurge in volume traffic to generate additional revenue. As and when applicable, the new fee will be applicable for both mobile and fixed line services and will include a 5 per cent universal service obligation (USO) levy. Currently, mobile and fixed line operators have to pay a fee of 10 per cent for metros and category A circles, 8 per cent for category B circles and 6 per cent for category C circles. Earlier, DoT reduced the entry fee for STD and ISD operators to Rs 2.5 crore from Rs 100 crore for a NLD licence and Rs 25 crore for an ILD licence. The licence fee was also brought down from 15 per cent to 6 per cent of the annual revenues.
  10. Laptop Stolen

If you are sure that he has used the internet connection, then there should be some way to trace it out. Well everyone knows about BSNL/Sancharnet, it would be difficult to convince them. Try if you can get in touch with higher authorities there.
  11. Sms Gateways Providers...

I'm sorry to inform you that Ashok JP will not be available for a few days as he met with a bike accident on Saturday evening. I came to know about it yesterday evening and he has been taken out of the ICU yesterday only. He may require a few more days rest to recuperate. Hope he will recover soon.
  12. aww well, doesn't seem to be any hope when Jacobs meet Anil Ambani either. Move to GSM and teach them a lesson
  13. Thats refreshing news, but again Reliance would most probably start with old Blackberry models like the 6750. Hope they would come up with 7130, 7250 or higher models !
  14. Nokia Exiting From Cdma Handset Production !

If Nokia is pulling out now, these would be the last new Nokia CDMA models to be rolled out (and we can expect them to be launched in India after an year )
  15. "WiFi on steroids" - thats what some people classify WiMax, but that would be too broad of an assessment. Both are complementary technologies. WiMax does not have much interference problems. WiMax networks are similar to Wifi in deployment. The WiMax supported devices that will be available soon should be dual mode. Basically this means that WiMAX users will be able to not only access Wi-Fi hotspots, but could also WiMAX access as well.
  16. Nokia Exiting From Cdma Handset Production !

Qualcomm Addresses Nokia's CDMA Ramp Down Plans Wireless Week June 23, 2006 CDMA2000 is alive and well, according to Qualcomm. The company is attempting to alleviate fears following news that Nokia and Sanyo are pulling out of their planned CDMA joint venture and that Nokia is scaling back its involvement in the CDMA handset market. Nokia decided to dissolve its CDMA venture with Sanyo because the handset manufacturer no longer views it as a viable business option. Nokia also points to increased emerging market competitive pressure for its decision. "In view of Nokia's existing small presence in CDMA2000, we do not believe that Nokia's decision to ramp down will have any impact on the continued growth of CDMA2000 or any adverse effect on Qualcomm," said Qualcomm's Steve Altman in a prepared statement. Altman added that Qualcomm plans to "continue to allocate substantial resources in expanding the CDMA2000 market and we will continue to work in close partnership with our many other licensees." "There were some harsh statements yesterday (Thursday) and we're trying to clear the air on our side," Keitel said. "Various people were concluding that this was going to impact the growth of CDMA2000. Nokia had a very small role in CDMA2000." CDMA technology accounted for 18 percent of the global handset market in the first quarter, down from a peak of 21 percent in 2004, according to researcher Strategy Analytics Ltd. "Investors are concerned that Nokia's decision to pull out of manufacturing CDMA phones represents a blow to Qualcomm," wrote Caris & Co analyst Susan Kalla in a note to investors. This could give Nokia "the upper hand in its contract dispute with Qualcomm." "Despite its efforts over the past several years to increase its share of CDMA2000 handset sales, Nokia has had very little success in competition against many of Qualcomm's other licensees and chipset customers," Qualcomm claims. "In addition, Nokia has not contributed to the development of CDMA2000 around the world, preferring to focus instead on GSM where Nokia controls a dominant share of the handset market in many countries enabling Nokia to maintain high prices and margins." On the other hand, according to Qualcomm, "The CDMA2000 handset business is highly competitive with participation from many capable manufacturers of all sizes around the world...In the face of this stiff competition, Nokia's vertically integrated business model failed to capture the same dominant share of handset sales." Qualcomm contends that "Given the dependence of Nokia's business model on achieving and maintaining dominant market shares, Nokia's announced decision to exit much of the CDMA2000 business was inevitable." Altman denied that Nokia's decision to ramp down was in any way related to Qualcomm's licensing terms, given that the JV was going to operate under Sanyo's existing CDMA license. The CDMA Development Group (CDG) pegs worldwide CDMA2000 subscribers at more than 300 million, and the group calculates 152 networks in 68 countries support this base of subscribers. Qualcomm shares were down $1.80, or 4.4 percent, at one point, with more than 32 million shares trading hands. The company's daily average volume is just over 14 million.

  19. You have to send an SMS with "reset yahooid" to 8242 (replace yahooid with the id of the person).
  20. Well, this wasn't a top international award, but a recognition given by Business Week magazine based on those four criterias - return of equity, revenue growth,, shareholder return (given equal weight) and total revenue (which was weighted). I guess Bharthi gained more with the better Shareholder Return rank. View the complete list here Bharti is indeed on a high after it was adjudged as the "Wireless Service Provider of the Year" and Sunil Mittal was the adjudged "CEO of the Year (Service Provider)" at the Frost & Sullivan Asia Pacific ICT Awards recently. They are rolling out "Triple Play" (phone, internet and cable TV) in 90 cities across India in 4 - 5 months as per media reports.
  21. CDMA is dying by the day: Sunil Mittal Indian Express - Saturday, June 24, 2006 at 0000 hrs Sends big signal to spectrum policymakers, impact of 3G services will be tremendous NEW DELHI, JUNE 23: Days after top CDMA operator Reliance stunned everybody by switching sides to GSM technology, the biggest mobile operator Bharti Airtel said that CDMA is on its way out in India and that the country’s spectrum policy needs to stay in tune with the big, globally harmonised spectrum rules. ‘‘CDMA is dying by the day. Even in Korea and the US, there is a steady shift to GSM,’’ Sunil Bharti Mittal, Chairman of Bharti Airtel Ltd, told The Indian Express on Friday. Mittal said that worldwide, GSM operators are migrating to W-CDMA technology while CDMA operators are switching to GSM. He said that if the US players T-Mobile and Cingular can switch sides from CDMA, it sends a ‘‘very big signal’’ to spectrum policymakers about where technology is headed. ‘‘W-CDMA is a kind of CDMA that is used by GSM players to provide 3G services. But CDMA is a closed technology for which heavy royalties have to be paid, so the CDMA people are moving to GSM, an open technology,’’ Mittal said. He added that W-CDMA is becoming popular with telecom operators worldwide because Qualcomm, which developed CDMA technology, charges significantly lower royalties for W-CDMA than it does for CDMA. ‘‘The significantly lower royalties for W-CDMA definitely play on operators’ minds,’’ Mittal said. In such a scenario, while Reliance’s adoption of GSM does give Bharti another major competitor on its own turf, it may bring the two warring sides together on the controversial spectrum allocation rules. Indian CDMA players want the government to give them spectrum in the 1900 MHz band where they can provide 3G services. But GSM operators want to keep them out of this band because of interference concerns. ‘‘The 1900 MHz band is not given to CDMA anywhere but in Korea and the US, and there is a steady shift away from that even there,’’ Mittal stated. ‘‘I think that in India the deal is done — we need to stay with the big, globally harmonised spectrum bands and keep 2GHz for W-CDMA,’’ he sad. Of course, Reliance may still keep its CDMA business working for several years if not forever and another big CDMA operator still remains: Tata Teleservices. There is no reason yet why this business house should want to give up on the claim for 1900 MHz to provide 3G. Mittal said that when 3G is finally launched in India, its impact will be tremendous, though that is not yet being sensed yet by anyone in India. ‘‘E-payments, e-governance and a range of e-services will transform the landscape. And we need it to happen,’’ he said. On a recent controversy about cellular subscriptions, Mittal said that the debate was ‘‘unnecessary.’’ He said that it was unlikely that operators were padding up their numbers significantly, but even if they were, there was little to be gained from it.
  22. Sms Gateways Providers...

You can customize the SenderID, ie., you can have the SenderID as "Abhay" instead of the number. This will work when you send to GSM numbers only though, as CDMA networks do not support Alphanumberic SenderIDs. I'm not sure about 2-way SMS, but I beleive it requires more setup than a HTTP/SMPP based SMS gateway.
  23. Rediffmail Beta - Reviews

Rediffmail was one of the first to offer 1 GB email after Gmail started the trend, but they were the last to improve their mail interface after Yahoo! Mail, Windows Live, etc. Their new interface is not bad, and looks very similar to the new Yahoo Mail. But still it hasn't got all the features that Gmail/Yahoo Mail/Live has got. Few AJAX stuff like drag and drop, Auto address complete, etc. have been chipped in. But one most annoying thing with Rediffmail for me is that the Search feature does not have an Update Database option, so I cannot search new mails
  24. Sms Gateways Providers...

There are many "Mantraway" type SMS gateway providers out there nowadays, thats what I found out when I was trying to setup an sms gateway recently. So better stick with well known top providers, even though they may cost a bit more. You should be able to get per SMS at 60 paise to 75 paise for very low volumes like 1000 sms per month. For larger volumes, you will get discounts from them. Since price varies according to volume, contact them for your pricing. Cellebrum is a very reliable Indian SMS gateway provider, AshokJP has tried them too... http://www.cellebrum.com/solsms_smsgateway.shtml http://www.cellebrum.com/solsms_web2SMS.shtml Some very reliable international providers... http://www.clickatell.com http://www.nowsms.com
