Bandwidth segment is laggard here The Hindu Business Line - New Delhi , Dec. 20 WHILE India can boast of a number of players in the mobile market, it lags behind when it comes to competition in the international bandwidth segment. While countries such as the UK and the US have more than 30 operators offering international bandwidth, in India there are only three. While the Tata-managed Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd controls over 75 per cent of the international bandwidth market, Bharti and Reliance Infocomm have 17 per cent and 8 per cent share respectively. In contrast, in developed markets such as France, there is heavy competition among the 34 operators. One of the reasons for the low number of operators has been the high entry fee for offering international bandwidth. As per the existing licence regime, only international long-distance operators can offer international bandwidth for which there was a licence fee of Rs 25 crore until last month, when it was brought down to Rs 2.5 crore. In European markets, operators do not have to pay entry fee for offering bandwidth. India also lags in the ownership of landing cables. While in the US, 22 cable landing stations are owned by 17 companies, in India two companies control the five cable landing stations. Lack of access to cable landing stations has created a bottleneck for bandwidth seekers in the country. In India, there are only eight cables touching the shores.

Thank you for sharing your experience, Rajesh. Yes, I did have experienced much difference when using a local data cable and original cable even for LG RD 2030. The local one did work without any problems, but the original one did make atleast a marginal improvement.

I hope Google would crawl this topic as soon as possible so that such incidents wont happen again ! Big mistake, nowadays more country top level domains are being open to their citizens to push the growth of Internet in the country. Did you know that most of their softwares including the operating system in his server (er, I doubt it would be a P III ) are pirated versions. Unless a police case if filed from your side, there is nothing that can be done 'legally' to punish him fom here in India. Yes, that could cost you a lot of money (maybe even more than what you spent?). But thats exactly what the guy was aware of, and why he was not afraid to cheat you since he knows that you wouldn't spend money to follow him up with the police. True, life s**ks thanks to these scamsters

Believe it or not, he was running the website earlier on a Reliance R-Connect platinum plan ! I wouldn't agree with some of your points, linuxguy... I had been cheated by 2 Biharis including 'mantrway', but you simply cannot generalize *all* biharis as frauds just because of those 2 guys. Namecheap is infact a leading domain name provider (even through they are enom resellers) along with Godaddy and many reputable businesses do register their domain through them.

Belated birthday wishes, Vishal !

Good idea, I'll post a detailed log statistics of the forum/website (not the server) in a new topic soon !

gokhan, actually the Indian Government had the restriction till the February 2006 for .in domains, before it was open to the public now. Looks as though Turkey is yet to open .tr TLD for the public. It should be open for all. Anyway, I'm in contact with mena with the investigation already, lets hope for the best !

Three is equal to four.... Theorem: 3=4 Proof: Suppose: a + b = c This can also be written as: 4a - 3a + 4b - 3b = 4c - 3c After reorganizing: 4a + 4b - 4c = 3a + 3b - 3c Take the constants out of the brackets: 4 * (a+b-c) = 3 * (a+b-c) Remove the same term left and right: 4 = 3 Four is equal to five Theorem: 4 = 5 Proof: -20 = -20 16 - 36 = 25 - 45 4^2 - 9*4 = 5^2 - 9*5 4^2 - 9*4 + 81/4 = 5^2 - 9*5 + 81/4 (4 - 9/2)^2 = (5 - 9/2)^2 4 - 9/2 = 5 - 9/2 4 = 5 Howzat ?!?

I've left his account active in the forum so that I could get keep a watch on him (if the account gets deleted, all chances of tracking him will be lost ). Actually, I've already removed his posting rights in the forum, all his posts would be invisible to members, unless approved by a moderator. He did make some posts afterwards, which were removed to the 'Junkyard' and thats why his profile says: "Most active in: Junkyard" BTW, mena2341 has contacted me over PM and since mena2341 is from Egypt it is difficult, anyway will try to make some breakthroughs.

Josey Puliyenthuruthel / New Delhi July 15,2004 for Business Standard -Life & Leisure If you grew up in India in the 1970 and 1980s, you wouldn’t have missed adverts by suitcase maker Blow Plast Ltd, better known for its V.I.P. range of moulded reinforced plastic baggage. One of the pieces splashed across news weeklies then used to be the V.I.P. vanity case, aimed at the chic lady who could then carry all her cosmetics and personal effects in a near-cubical box. Recently, Reliance Infocomm Ltd, the owner of the fastest-growing CDMA (code division multiple access)-based wireless phone network in the world, sent me a matt-finished steel vanity case. Sure that even the best-humoured people I interact with in the company were not hinting that I get a facelift on way to becoming a metrosexual, I curiously opened the box. Inside was one of the more interesting gizmos I’ve come across in recent times. I say interesting, because it has little more than cosmetic value, but will pique the gizmo aficionado and reviewer for the miniaturisation possible with electronics. It points to the direction that wireless phones will move in future. There is already talk — some in the realm of fantasy — among the mobile phone design community of trans-receivers pushed into ears with a tiny microphone running mouthwards supported with a thin-as-hair, yet sturdy cable. Such devices would entirely be driven by voice commands. Or, there is the other rather fantastic design that visualises a speaker embedded in a tooth! The Telson gadget, in comparison, seems boringly contemporary; yet is the smallest phone I’ve used. The Telson CDMA (the wireless technology used by Reliance and Tata Teleservices Ltd) wristwatch phone (wristphone, in short), made by a Korean manufacturer, is a few times bigger than the clunky pieces of steel and glass that pass off as timekeepers these days on people’s forearms. It weighs a shade under 100 grams. The phone boasts of a miniature keypad on the wristband, but dialing using the tiny keys can be trying and voice-activated dialing, therefore, is a useful feature. How does one talk in or listen to the phone? The Telson wristphone comes with a speaker, which is a mite feeble for the outdoors even while driving with the windows up in a car. In addition, it has an infrared ear piece, which needs to be within line of sight of the wristphone, and a cute “finger-ring” earpiece that works well if you can hold up your ring finger to your ear while on a phone call. Again, a slightly unusual way of conversing on the phone. The phonebook on the Telson gizmo can store up to 200 entries with four numbers each, email ID, URL and can assign a photo each with the number of the person calling in so that whenever you receive calls the caller’s photo will be displayed on the screen. This, admittedly, is a standard feature on most new camera phones today, but seems more cool on a wristphone. The phone comes with a plug-in high-resolution 330,000-pixel digital camera included in the handset kit that has a capacity to save up to 80 pictures. Some of the other features of the Telson phone include three-way conference calling, call waiting and forwarding; a scheduler, calculator, alarm, stopwatch, unit exchange and world clock; predictive text input for short messaging service; and 16 polyphonic ringtones. Together with the camera, the Telson TWC 1150 phone, being offered solely by Reliance Infocomm in India, comes for just under Rs 24,000, which makes it not too expensive a novelty gift among corporate chieftains or rich socialites. There are other wristphone models in the Far-East market (the leader for CDMA technology) like the Wristomo hawked by NTT DoCoMo in Japan, which are rated better than the Telson phone, but are not available in India.

Yes, the guy behind 'mantraway' is a fraudster and he has cheated us too before. I'm sorry to hear that you paid him US$ 1300 ! I do have some of his contact details. Let me know if you need any help in proceeding with the case. Anyway, I'm not sure how your legal procedures would be since you seem to be from Egypt, right ?

Monday, 20 June , 2005, 08:00 Recently in Singapore: Motorola is in the process of rolling out mass-market appeal handsets to capture new markets and enhance its share in the existing ones. The company is targeting to tap the potential in India, Africa, West Asia, South East Asia and China. `Until recently, South East Asia was a standalone market, but now we see that all these markets exhibit close functionality and market tendency. There is high growth market potential in this region. Our focused strategy is to regain our position in China, where the market is not just big, but complex as well,' David Taylor, Director (Strategy and Operations), Mobile Device said. In India, Motorola is close to clinching a deal with Reliance. `Not many understand the CDMA (code division multiple access) technology. We are in talks with Reliance Infocomm for introducing Motorola's CDMA handsets in India. This should be through within a month or two,' he said. The company is also gearing up to launch the Motorola V 280 and V 360 handsets in India shortly. `As consumer segmentation matures, we start looking at other consumer segments,' he said. . "It helps capture still shots via an integrated VGA camera, moving images with the video capture and playback feature, an integrated MP3 player and optional TransFlash memory card to store and play song files and PC charging, thereby maximising personal flexibility. The Bluetooth wireless connectivity enhances mobility.' Motorola V 280 model measures a mere 10.9 mm in thickness but has a large user memory space of up to 10 MB for media creation, download, sharing and storage. Before introducing these models in India market, Motorola showcased two other - C 117 and C 157 - models as well at the CommunicAsia 2005 event in Singapore. `Our vision is to deliver seamless mobility with new solutions,' Taylor said
