Rahul, this is the official response from Reliance Infocomm... "Irrespective of the caller, the same photo wil be displayed each time the user gets a call" - Now that feature is unfair to be called as ''Photo Caller ID' !

TIMES NEWS NETWORK [ MONDAY, MAY 10, 2004 01:35:16 AM ] Many cellphone users, with roaming facilities, are angry with mobile service providers for sending them Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's message - both recorded and SMS, urging the electorate to vote for the BJP. "Large number of roaming facility users who received such calls carrying a recorded message of the Prime Minister had to shell out money for it. We have received several such complaints from the users, but we, as mobile service providers, were bound to pass such messages which were through auto diallers to the called number. At times, roaming facility users abroad received such calls at odd hours to the great annoyance of the users who were not only disturbed in their sleep, but had to pay for receiving the call," said Sunil Mittal, chairman and managing director of Bharti Tele Venture, a service provider. The BJP, as part of its election campaign, used both mobiles and fixed lines to send across Vajpayee's recorded message. The whole exercise cost the party a fortune as millions of such calls were made across the country. In several cases, calls were received by mobile and landline users even on the day of the poll. Mittal said several telecom providers were engaged for sending the message across the country to the users. Some times, the calling numbers were displayed on the screen and sometimes it was not displayed on the screen. "We were duty-bound to pass on the calls routed thro-ugh us and we were totally helpless if our customers felt offended. According to Indian laws, no call can be stopped by any service provider and as per TRAI stipulation all such calls had to be charged to the customers if on roaming. We could only apologise to the customers for inconvenience caused to them," said Mittal.

well at least its not a problem anymore since incoming roaming is now free! Receiving incoming calls when roaming isn't free. Only thing is there is no 'extra' charges for receiving calls while roaming, which other operators charge now. Call forwarding charges are applicable while roaming as per the tariff plan subscribed.

When did this come up on your screen ? Did it come automatically or were you doing something with it ?

I received a small box by courier today and it was from Reliance Infocomm Inside it was a medium size telephone book and an accompanying letter. Some excerpts from the letter... "Your unstinting support has played a significant role in Reliance India Mobile achieving the milestone of 7.5 million customers across India within the short span of 10 months, which is a record in world's telecom history!" "As a token of appreciation for your support, we would like to honour you with a small gift." "We look forward ro celebrating our next milestone of ten million customers, with you, in the not so distant future." Signed by: Mr.V Gopakumar, Head - Customer Care, Kerala Circle The courier is addressed from Reliance Infocomm's head office in Kerala (Kochi). So for each circle, it may be different. Did anyone receive similar stuff from Reliance recently ?

Reliance Infocomm slashes STD tariffs 5/11/2004 2:16:34 PM IST ---------------------------------- Reliance Infocomm has slashed the STD tariffs of Reliance IndiaPhone, its Fixed Wireless phone (FWP) and Fixed Wireless Terminal (FWT) services for Intra-circle calls and Inter-circle calls to landlines by about 25%. The New Tariffs will come in to effect across the country from Tuesday.. The STD rates from FWP/FWT to landline phones within the circle in the distance slab of more than 100 KM have been brought down to Rs.1.65 for Plan 500, Rs. 1.50 for Plan 1000 and Rs.1.35 for Plan 1500 from Rs.2.2, Rs.2.0 and Rs.1.8 respectively. Additionally, STD rates from FWP/FWT to landline phones outside the circle in the distance slab of more than 200 KM have also been brought down to Rs.3.30 for Plan 500, Rs. 3.00 for Plan 1000 and Rs.2.70 for Plan 1500 from Rs.4.4, Rs.4.0 and Rs.3.6 respectively. The reduction in the call charges is due to the increase of pulse duration for Intra-circle calls from 30 sec to 40 sec and for Inter-circle calls from 15 sec to 20 sec in the above mentioned distance slabs. All other call charges remains unchanged. “With this Reliance IndiaPhone will be one of the most economical telephone services in India with an unbeatable value proposition for all user segments. It also offers wireless Internet Access service (R-Connect service), which is not offered by any other basic telephony service provider," says S P Shukla President (Wireless Products and Services), Reliance Infocomm. ------------------------------------------------------ Tough competition for Tata Indicom's phone services :'(

Forget that link, get the newer version from here -
Well, I don't think they can do anything about it. It depends on the user at the other end.

Yesterday night, our server experienced a Denial of Service (DoS) attack which was the cause of the initial downtime. A DoS attack is when a malicious user sends useless network traffic to a server causing legitimate traffic to be ignored. After receiving help from the datacenter to thwart the attack, software on the server was upgraded in order to help prevent additional attacks. This upgrade required a server reboot. After some time, the server was experiencing problems with the newly installed software upgrades. It is still under investigation, and hopefully will be resolved soon. Will update you as I get more information our Data Center (The Panet, Dallas).

The issue with the server has been fixed and everything is fine now. Closing...

WLL (Wireless in Local Loop) is an Access Network technology based on CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access). Fixed wireless phone refers to wireless devices or systems that are situated in fixed locations, such as an office or home, which can also be based on CDMA. FWP falls under 'land phone' license, while WLL based phones (mobiles) fall under 'cellular' license as per TRAI's latest ruling. Yup, the FWP along with the FWT can be transerred anywhere in an SDCA.

Hello Gurinder, welcome to RIMweb.com ! Even though Reliance claims their R-Connect connection as 'broadband' , it never is in practical. One thing to note is the speeds are improving as time goes by and they say it will improve even more in the coming days. But still, the actual speed will be only a little more than normal dial up connections. So I guess Reliance FWP is not a wise choice if you need more bandwidth to do VOIP applications. Anyway, Reliance will be starting broadband connections in the last quarter of 2004 (no date announced though). I sugges you to wait till then. Just my two cents

Congrats, Static ! Wish you all the best, Birthday Boy ! Have a great day !

TRAI made unified license for all 'mobile' (ie., GSM and WLL) operators. Please don't confuse between WLL and CDMA. Reliance's Fixed Wireless phone is using CDMA technology, but its not a WLL phone, but a fixed/land phone. The new tariff rates were announced for Reliance IndiaPhone, not Reliance IndiaMobile.

Most probably they must have taken your complaint into consideration. Glad its working, thanks to your efforts ! BTW, did they reply/call you about it ?

I noticed confusion especially among the newbies about ringtone/wallpaper uploading and thats why I posted this thread. It contains all information and links that you need. Since the ringtones are uploaded by different users, its difficult to maintain a particular format. If you have time, please download each and every ringtone/wallpaper, then arrange it and send it to me. Then I'll put up the 'library' that you requested in the forum.
