Please Suggest: Dual SIM - Either GSM or CDMA Music Phone
Arun replied to catch148's topic in Handset Suggestions
Topic title updated and moved to Handset Suggestions forum as you are not decided on the handset model yet -
There should not be any difference in speed when using over WiFi especially when you are using Automatic settings in the wifi router. I don't know if AirTel has some special configurations in it though. Get a Linksys or Netgear router if the problem persists.

The speed may fluctuate as well in that case if it goes as low as 12. How far away is the tower from your place? For me it did not go below 20 and the tower is half a kilometer away from my house.

Great! 21 dB CINR is good

I guess you have done the hard reset already (as per the PM). Are the applications working properly now?
-
Considering that you are seeing multiple problems do a hard reset, not sure how a battery change can cause such problems.

Doesn't look like that will work out

It is likely that the modem driver did not install properly. What does the device status show in Device Manager?

Reliance Slashes Data Rates for NetConnect 1x in UP
Arun replied to rajeshkatiyar's topic in Data services
Yes, it for CDMA 1x only (updated topic title now) I have seen a similar ad for TATA Photon Whiz as well (in Kerala circle at least). As far as I can remember they mention "unlimited" for Rs.300, not sure what the FUP is for TATA. -
Use Automatic Configuration - DHCP (this will obtain the IP address automatically from your BSNL modem) in the router and enable DHCP server in the router with a local IP range. Use automatic configuration in your PC for the wireless network.

As of now Thrissur is under the list of proposed towns, should launch there soon. I was able to get the connection active in 2 - 3 days; I think they say within 48 hours after giving the application. That JTO was interested in seeing the signal strength lights only. He didn't took the modem diagnostic page at all. I am planning to go with outdoor CPE , as I am planning this conn for a backup. I have one ADSL wifi modem. Can I use that modem along with BSNL wimax for Wifi purpose ? Or do I need to buy one Wifi router ? How much one Wifi router costs ? Yes, if you are seeing 3 lights for internal CPE then outdoor CPE will give you better coverage. Which Wifi modem do you have? As long as it has a router it should work.

What is the signal strength shown (in dB) in your CPE diagnostic page?

Airtel to launch 3G services by December September 3, 2010 New Delhi With 3G spectrum allocation on schedule, mobile operator Bharti Airtel has put its 3G launch plans on high speed. Bharti is expecting to launch its 3G service by December this year. 3G spectrum will allow telecom operators like Bharti Airtel to provide mobile users data at high speeds allowing them to watch movies, games and a host of new services on their phones. 3G allows high-speed mobile broadband access, enabling users to download full length movies, make video calls and watch live television programmes. To try and keep tariffs low Bharti is looking at customised plans for different users and would be looking to sell talk time bundled into small affordable packages. Bharti which paid over Rs. 12,000 crore for the right to provide 3G services in 13 circles in the country however agrees that keeping tariffs low will be a challenge. Most experts agree that 3G tariffs will be at a much higher premium than the existing mobile tariffs. So Bharti's main focus will be on Metros to launch its service. After all 3G services may not see too much competition as only a maximum of four players are being allowed per circle but the high price paid for spectrum means that making money on 3G will still continue to be a challenge for most mobile companies. The 3G spectrum has been allotted to AirTel, Aircel, Vodafone, S Tel, Reliance, Idea Cellular and Tata Cellular Services, who won the bids through the e-auction In the two metros of Delhi and Mumbai, three operators – Bharti Airtel, Vodafone and Reliance Communication – had emerged as the winners of 3G licences, while no operator could bag pan-India spectrum under the auction that was conducted between April 9 and May 18 this year.

DoT to allocate 3G spectrum tomorrow August 31, 2010 - Press Trust of India The government will allocate 3G spectrum to Bharti Airtel, Reliance Communications, Vodafone and others tomorrow, as the Defence has agreed to handover required quantity of radio airwaves. This would pave way for launch of high-speed mobile broadband services in the country. Senior official from the Department of Telecom said the deck has been cleared and the department will handover the spectrum to the operators on Wednesday. DoT had set September 1 as the deadline for allocating spectrum, as per the schedule of auction, which fetched the government over Rs 67,000 crore for selling 3G frequency. There were, however, apprehensions in the industry as the, alternate network for defence was yet to be completed. The government had raised over Rs 1.06 lakh crore from sale of spectrum for both 3G and Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) services. As many as seven operators, including Bharti Airtel, Vodafone, Tata Teleservices, Reliance Communications and others had bagged 3G spectrum in select circles. Operators are confident if the spectrum is handed over to them by September, they can roll out services by the end of 2010 or early 2011. If the spectrum is handed over tomorrow, then operators will be able to launch the much-awaited 3G services by the year-end. The 3G technology, or the third generation mobile communications, will allow telecom operators, including Bharti, Vodafone, RCom and Tata which are in fray to acquire radio waves, to offer better quality of voice calls under 3G, compared to 2G services. Moreover, through 3G technology users can download music files, full movie and other files at high speed. 3G users can access through handsets high-speed Internet anytime anywhere and can also make video calls. TV programmes can also be watched on mobile handsets with a 3G connection. Two leading operators Bharti Airtel and Reliance Communications had recently announced that they are ready with their 3G infrastructure and are waiting for the government to release spectrum.

BlackBerry, Skype, Gmail and now 3G come under the scanner of Indian Government
Arun replied to faizone's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
BlackBerry blinks, avoids ban by offering server, full access BS Reporters / New Delhi August 31, 2010, 0:22 IST The country’s 1.2-million BlackBerry users — and those waiting to buy one — will heave a sigh of relief as Research in Motion (RIM), the maker of the smart phone, today dodged a ban in India by offering to set up a server in the country and immediately offer full data access to security agencies. The offer came in the nick of time, a day before the home ministry’s deadline for RIM to either give full access to its enterprise emails and messenger services or face a ban. It also coincides with an offer by rival Nokia, whose push-mail service has been under the scanner, to set up a server in the country in an apparent bid to lure corporate users as uncertainty loomed over BlackBerry. Once installed, this will be only the third server outside RIM’s home country, Canada. Senior home ministry officials believe that RIM has servers in China and the US, but the company has so far denied these suspicions. RIM has a total subscriber base of 41 million worldwide. “RIM has made certain proposals for lawful access by law enforcement agencies and these would be operationalised immediately,” the home ministry said in a statement. “The feasibility of the solutions offered would be assessed thereafter.” The review will be in 60 days, after the department of telecommunications submits a report on the solution. Today’s decision was taken in an internal meeting headed by Home Secretary GK Pillai, along with officials of the Intelligence Bureau, National Technical Research Organisation and representatives of the country’s internal security apparatus. RIM uses powerful codes to encrypt email messages as they travel between a BlackBerry device and a computer known as a BlackBerry Enterprise Server, which is designed to secure these emails. The home ministry has made it clear that any communication through telecom networks should be accessible to law enforcement agencies. DoT had instructed telecom service providers to ensure that a technical solution for interception and monitoring of BlackBerry services in readable format was made available to law enforcing agencies by the August 31 deadline. Similar security concerns were also raised in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The Saudi Arabian government has already allowed BlackBerry messenger services to continue, following the resolution of some of its regulatory requirements. However, the UAE has set a deadline of October 11 to ban BlackBerry's messenger, email and web browsing services. -
