Dot Rings Mobile Number Portability
Arun replied to coolrajiv's topic in Mobile Number Portability (MNP)
DoT calls on Syniverse to oversee MNP nationwide Thursday, 5 August 2010 TeleGeography India’s Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has reportedly approached US-based Syniverse Technologies with a request that it prepare for a nationwide implementation of mobile number portability (MNP), rather than the geographically restricted launch it is currently gearing up for. According to the Business Standard, the other company selected to administer the service, MNP Interconnection Telecom Solutions India (MITSI), a joint venture including Telcordia Technologies, has had its licence approval revoked by the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB). As noted in TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, both Syniverse and MITSI were selected in March 2009 to oversee the introduction of MNP in India, with Syniverse agreeing to operate a clearing house covering northern and western states, while MITSI would administer the service in southern and eastern states. While MITSI initially received FIPB approval, citing security concerns the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) proposed to revoke the consent; the state’s decision was prompted by reports that Telcordia had signed a contract with Pakistan MNP Database for implementing MNP in the neighbouring country. Commenting on this most recent development, a senior official at the DoT was quoted as saying: ‘The department has already asked Syniverse to ready itself to implement MNP all across India, as we might have to withdraw the licence of Telcordia after [the] FIPB rejected its proposal.’ It is believed that the regulator would prefer to call on Syniverse to pick up the slack, rather than re-opening the bidding for the southern and eastern states, which would only further delay the whole process. Originally the DoT had ordered that rollout of the service must take place in certain circles by 20 September 2009, with the remainder to come online by 20 March 2010. Several delays have since seen the current deadline slip back to 31 October 2010, in part caused by failures of network operators to upgrade their systems to be ready to offer the service, while the Telecoms Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) had also still failed to set tariffs for the service by early-2010. -

Reliance Communications And Universal Unveil Mobile Music Deal
Arun posted a topic in Reliance Communications
Associated Press MUMBAI, India August 4, 2010 Universal Music Group and India's Reliance Communications announced a mobile phone music distribution deal Wednesday, part of Universal's drive to ramp up digital revenues as physical sales wane. Reliance will offer music downloads, ringtones, caller tunes and streaming radio of Universal's content for monthly subscription rates of 25 rupees ($0.54) to 99 rupees ($2.14). The deal gives Universal access to Reliance's 110 million mobile customers in the world's fastest growing mobile phone market. Reliance hopes the ability to distribute over 300,000 songs from more than 3,500 of Universal's international artists will give it a competitive edge as India prepares for the roll out high-speed third-generation networks. Reliance Communications spent 85.9 billion rupees ($1.8 billion) to buy 3G spectrum in April. If the government allocates that spectrum by September, as planned, the company should have its 3G network running by early next year, Reliance Communications president Mahesh Prasad said. Universal has similar arrangements in about 22 other countries, including the U.K., Singapore, Malaysia and France, said Rob Wells, Universal Music's senior vice president for digital operations. "In markets where we've seen huge declines in the physical business, it ramps up our digital revenues significantly," said Sandy Monteiro, president of Universal Music's South East Asia operations. After partnering with SingTel, for example, Universal Music's digital revenues in Singapore shot up from 10 percent to 50 percent of the total, he said. Music downloading has been slow to come to India, where piracy is rampant. Nokia also has a music download service in India. -
Why don't you buy a wireless router from outside and connect with the modem?

Defcon Hacker Eavesdrops on GSM based phone conversations for $1,500
Arun posted a topic in General Technical Discussion
PC Mag 08.01.2010 With but $1,500 worth of equipment and some ingenuity, security researcher Chris Paget can create his own cell phone tower. Here's the catch, however: The tower itself isn't real. It's a fake recreation of a GSM base station that allows Paget to overpower the actual signals from real-life base stations. The end result? Cell phones connect to PagetNet—or whatever name he's assigned his creation—thinking that they're accessing an actual cell phone tower. When that happens, Paget can listen in to the conversations and/or record them at his leisure. His device—an International Mobile Identity Subscriber catcher—bounces the call to an actual cell phone tower and the user is none the wiser, save for the fact that all inbound calls now go directly to said user's voicemail as the carrier considers the actual phone off-network. Paget showed off his device at this year's Defcon convention in Las Vegas after making quite a few consultations as to the actual legality of his talk and demonstration. The trick only works against AT&T and T-Mobile customers in the United States, as Verizon and Sprint both use CDMA technology to power their networks—as mentioned, Paget's spoof only works across GSM-based networks. The gear included an antenna and radio equipment and broadcast a GSM signal that imitated a legitimate telecom service tower, prompting handsets to automatically connect. As well, the exploit doesn't work for those running on 3G connections. However, Paget noted in his talk that it's easy to overpower a 3G network with a noise generator—which he also happened to have on-hand, but didn't use—to force phones to revert to 2G connections. Once that happens, they're prime targets for Paget's exploit, should he overpower the legitimate signals emanating from local cell towers. "GSM is broken," Paget said. "It is up to telecom providers when to shift from 2G GSM to 3G networks. GSM is widely deployed with millions of handsets in use." "There's a good chance you won't even know about it when it happens," said Paget during his presentation, a snippet of which can be found below. "As far as your cell phones are concerned, I'm now indistinguishable from AT&T." -

Yup, up and ready! I have the "Engineering" option enabled in my WiMAX modem configuration page which is used for advanced configuration and testing by the technicians. Oh btw I don't have a EVO though just the Incredible :/

I have tested now and got 1.2 mbps average download speed while downloading with Flashget and 355 kbps average upload speed with FTP client.
