Updated: 3G Auction completed after 34 days of bidding
Arun replied to Arun's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
Govt to hold 3G auction on April 9 Press Trust of India / New Delhi February 24, 2010, 14:59 IST The government will hold the much-awaited auction for third generation (3G) mobile spectrum on April 9 and will start inviting applications from the prospective bidders from tomorrow. Announcing the schedule of 3G auction, a government notification said the notice inviting applications would start tomorrow and the last date for submitting the applications is March 19. The government is expecting Rs 35,000 crore from the auction. While the pre-qualification of bidders would take place on March 30, mock auctions would be held on the 5th and the 6th of April. The auction date for 3G spectrum is April 9, 2010, it said. In the past, 3G auctions have been deferred twice even after the date of announcements of the auction. All big telecom majors Bharti, Vodafone, Reliance Communications and Tatas have readied their plans for the auction. When contacted, most of the operators expressed relief at the announcement of the dates, but said they would wait for the NIA to for more clarity. The auction has been delayed over differences between government departments over pricing wireless radio spectrum and on the availability of spectrum to be auctioned. However, the issues were later resolved, Telecom Minister A Raja had said. Though the quantum of the spectrum available for auction is still not clear, sources indicated that three slots may be put on the block in most circles while a few areas may have enough air waves to accommodate four players. The move comes after the Law Ministry gave its approval to the NIA last week, paving the way for the government to go ahead with the auction. The Deaprtment of Telcom has, however, dropped a clause in the NIA, which stated that the government will refund the bid amount in case the auctioned spectrum was not allocated by September 1, 2010. In an emerging economy like India, there would be a lot of unexplored possibilities in value added services after the introduction of 3G, thus resulting in increased revenues to telecom companies. With 3G, users will be able to access high-end data services, including ultra-fast internet and video-conferencing, by next year when the operators roll out their commercial 3G services. -
Even more interesting is the fact that both you and "akhil.racer" are using the same IP address

A 100 post rule is too much in my opinion. For example a member like "sagarbn" won't have any chance of posting something like this:
-
I am planning to increase the minimum number of posts required to post in Buy/Sell forum to 50. The posting format has to be followed by all members who post a topic for sale. If a member doesn't post in the proper format, a moderator will send a PM to the member with a request to edit the topic in the proper format within 24 hours, else it will be removed and they have to post a new topic with the proper formatting. What say?

There is no "fixed criteria" for get invitation to the Techie Enclave forum. It will be based on existing member recommendation based on current activity in the forum and the member base is already growing.
-
I do not intend to add the chat option since it would see more members using chat rather than discussing on the forum as mentioned earlier. It is important to discuss issues in the forum so that everyone else can see the discussion. A forum's basic purpose of "sharing" won't work out with chat, the discussions have to be on the forum. A chat option will be available for Techie Enclave members for the suggestion that Mufaddal made earlier. IP.Board's chat option is a paid addon depending on the number of users, so I may be able to get it for free if it is for Techie Enclave members only.

Android 2.1 update coming for HTC Hero Sprint by Q2 2010

A standard format to be followed when posting a topic in the Buy/Sell forum is the best thing to happen, but not everyone is going to read the format and post according to the format. A form based posting system that forces the member to enter the required items will not be a possibility. So should ALL new topics in the Buy/Sell forum any ANYONE be queued for verification by a moderator before it is approved to make sure the format is there and if it is not there then the moderator should ask the member to re-post it in the proper format?

A server hardware upgrade/replacement is due this month. The server is currently in Dallas and we may switch locations if a better location can be found. So I would like to see your ping result to check the latency for different server locations and then decide based on the majority. Please send me a ping check result from your PC. To run a ping command (assuming you are using Windows OS), click Start > Run > Type: cmd > Press Enter > Type each of the command below (copy-paste will work) and press enter: Update: Server upgrade and move is already complete:
-
Yeah, thanks but its not required any more as the location was already decided. I have updated the main post.
-
Can you give me TeamViwer access to your PC?
-
Try clearing your browser cache and see.
-
I mean you can send me the trace route and nslookup result when you are unable to access. The nslookup result you posted is not complete though.
-
If you are noticing it continuously, then please run a trace route result and a nslookup from your PC and send me the result. It is likely that your DNS cache is playing up.
-
I haven't noticed any issue like that, how often do you have to do that? I have seen comparisons being discussed with OpenDNS and OpenDNS had more takers.
-
cPanel update runs every night, why should it be turned off?
-
Yes, if you saw the DNS cache message then you were accessing the old server at that time. If you are seeing this message then the DNS cache in your PC has updated and you are accessing the new server.
-
Thank to everyone who have sent the results. Out of the 31 results received majority had least latency to Washington DC and hence the new location is Washington DC! If you are reading this message then you are accessing RIMweb.in on the new server which has upgraded hardware specifications at the new location!

A "thank you" button feature will help to cut down the number of "thank you" only posts. There is a paid modification available for IP.Board and I will install it soon after getting it.

Oh... I too can-not edit my post nowadays... So that is the reason... Arun Ji, any specific reason for this change in "Rim Addict" group?? Or just a change in default setting??? Please clarify... Thanks Yes, there was a reason. "Someone" was trying to abuse the privilege (to edit/delete own posts) by deleting his own posts as if it was the end of world for him when "someone" else posted "something" about him in a topic. So I disabled the privilege until he came back to his senses and fortunately he was the next day itself with an apology. The posts were then restored from the Junkyard. The privilege to edit (up to 48 hours) and delete posts is already enabled by now.
