Any new network showing in your mobile?
Arun replied to Arun's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
Probably Unitech Wireless which expects to roll out services by December 2009 -
The Hindu Kolkata, August 28, 2009 Samsung on Friday launched the country’s first open market handset (OMH) phone Mpower 699 in co-operation with Qualcomm at an event in Kolkata. The OMH technology gives mobile customers the flexibility to buy a CDMA handset and SIM cards from various CDMA operators of their choice. Announcing the launch of Samsung MPower 699 in the Indian market, Jung Soo Shin, president & CEO Samsung South West Asia, said that the launch marked a paradigm shift in the dynamics of the CDMA ecosystem with consumers now having the flexibility to choose an operator. Sunil Dutt, country head Samsung Telecom Division, Samsung India Electronics Ltd said that last year, Samsung took the first step towards giving consumers flexibility in CDMA by launching MPower series handsets to work with CDMA connections from operators, Reliance Mobile, Tata Indicom and Virgin Mobile. Mr Shin said that the introduction of OMH will lead to common development standards and inter-operability for all CDMA networks globally. A company release said that MPower 699 will support Tata Indicom, Reliance Mobile, MTS and Virgin Mobile services on their OMH SIM cards. It was also stated that the switch-over process to new OMH SIM cards from existing R-UIM/SIM connections was very easy and the new OMH phone also supports the existing SIM for voice and SMS as well as data services.

Updated: 3G Auction completed after 34 days of bidding
Arun replied to Arun's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
3G auction: Which companies may gain Published on Fri, Aug 28, 2009 at 16:31 , Updated at Fri, Aug 28, 2009 at 17:33 Source : CNBC-TV18 The government on Thursday (August 27) rolled out its roadmap to the 3G and WiMax auctions. The auctions will not only pave the way for next generation technology over voice communication but will also help an already-desperate-for-cash government rake in about Rs 25,000 crore and help ease the fiscal deficit situation. “Five 3G slots will be auctioned. Among the five, one slot has already been auctioned to BSNL and MTNL so the remaining four would be auctioned. The base price for pan-India would be Rs 3,500 crore,” Telecom Minister Anthony Raja said, adding, “Since the number of slots is only four, the auction price will be more and I feel the department will easily fetch Rs 25,000 crore.” The minister also said the auction would be completed within 90 days. The 3G auction has been delayed for over a year now. The Department of Telecom was earlier looking at a base price of Rs 2,020 crore while the Finance Ministry wanted it doubled. Who wins, who loses? Reactions poured in immediately after the auction announcement with big GSM players like Bharti welcoming the auction. Bharti and Vodafone with an easy cash position would be looking forward to the auctions. However, the relatively smaller players like Idea, Reliance Communication and Aircel will need to dig deep into their pockets to pay up. Another player that stands to lose is MTNL, which will — as per the norm set by the government — need to match the highest bids in the Delhi and Mumbai circles where it operates. MTNL, already a loss-making government entity, does have enough cash reserve but if required to shell out Rs 800 crore — as expected — it may be negative for the stock. The CDMA players are the worst-hit. Reacting to the 3G auctions, SC Khanna of the Association of Unified Telecom Service Providers of India (AUSPI), a CDMA operators’ body consisting of Reliance Communication, Tata Indicom and Sistema Shyam, said he was disappointed with the auction because of both the high reserve price and the limited number of slots. “The high reserve price will impact the 3G service’s affordability. Also, the government is creating artificial scarcity by auctioning just four slots,” Khanna said, adding that the government should have auctioned all the slots, the number being seven or eight. -

Reliance Communications Launches Rural Wireless Internet
Arun replied to vvinayakpai's topic in Reliance Communications
BharatNet Plan: Reliance communications aims to target the 4 million PC users in rural India who need high speed net connectivity similar to those available in urban areas. This plan will be available in 20,000 rural locations across India and are considered to be a high-speed variant of Reliance’s NetConnect service. The speeds offered under these services will be about 153 kbps. The services can be availed for weekly rental of Rs 98 and download limits of 350 MB. Reliance says that the pricing falls under its sachet model. The services will be available across the rural India except for metros and top 100 cities. -
Pinned!

I could not check when traveling but I checked it from Bangalore (JP Nagar area) and speed was normal around 2 mbps in a closed room. @chandanbs: At what time are you noticing the dip in speed so that I can try at that time?

I think this is a typo error, 250KB/sec I think so.. Please confirm. Yeah sorry, it should have been kB/sec

"Active content in the last week, 2 weeks, month", etc. feature will be available in v 3.0.3 only. You will see the option now (v 3.0.2) but it is not fully implemented yet. That is why I haven't announced in this topic yet that the "Active Content for 1 week, 2 weeks, month" etc. feature has been added back as it was a requested feature. I do not know when v 3.0.3 will be available but it is expected to be released after a couple of weeks.

@drsoham: The name "Gagan" is already taken @nahid: The name should have a minimum of 3 characters

I am not seeing a drop in speed here and it hovers around 250 kB/sec which I have been getting earlier. I will be able to check it in Bangalore when I am there during this weekend and let you know.

You will be charged the customs duty. When the postman delivers the item (or request you to pick up from Post Office), they will ask you to make the payment. The amount determined by the customs department will depend on the cost of the item.

New plans from TATA Indicom (VSNL) Broadband: http://www.more4sure.in/tariffs.html It doesn't seem to match up with AirTel's broadband plans which are more cheaper especially for the higher plans. However they have designed the plans in such a way that there are some plus points than AirTel broadband... for Rs.1100 per month, one can get 1.5 mbps download speed during night and on Sunday with TATA Indicom broadband. Moreover the night timing is 10 PM to 8 AM for TATA Indicom broadband while it is 10 PM to 6 AM only for AirTel broadband!

Discuss Here All The Problems With Blackberry.....
Arun replied to amit.shippie's topic in BlackBerry
No, working fine on AirTel. It must be an issue with Reliance GSM BIS itself. Amit Jain had experienced the same issue. -
