  11. Tata Introduces Speedpro Broadband

ADSL2+ is delivered over wireline only. Well I think the difference is that Speedro Broadband offer phone connection as well along with broadband just like Reliance's BroadNet and AirTel Broadband service. The normal TATA Indicom Broadband is just broadband service alone.
  12. Mobile number portability at under Rs 300? May 01, 2009 14:07 IST Press Trust of India Consumers may not have to pay more than Rs 300 to change from one mobile service provider to another while keeping the phone number intact, a facility likely to start from September 20. "It will be one time cost for subscribers seeking portability but the charge is not yet finalised by the department of telecommunication and the telecom Regulatory Authority of India, on which they are working. So far, it seems the charges would not be more than Rs 300 but this could be even below Rs 200," sources close to the developments told PTI. Deliberations by the government is being carried out to keep cost and charges at a level so as not to discourage subscribers willing to change their service provider, an optional facility, and at the same time make the service providers a viable business model, they said. The charge is directly linked to the number of subscribers, who would seek the change in service provider out of the total mobile user base of about 400 million. The DoT has offered licence to Syniverse Technologies for north and western region and MNP Interconnection Telecom Ltd for eastern and southern region to rollout number portability across the country. There is no comparable market in the 50-60 countries which has adopted number portability as the pre-paid subscriber base in the country is almost 90 per cent of the total subscriber base and has low average revenue per user. "Majority of the countries had initially levied charge to mobile subscribers seeking to switch their service provides but five years later majority of them were forced to waive it and the same is paid by the winning mobile operator," MNP Interconnection Telecom chairman (designate) and president,Interconnection Solutions, Telcordia, Richard Jacowleff said. Telcordia is a US-based telecom solutions provider and is the 74 per cent stake holder in Indian JV MNP. The combined investment in the first phase by MNP Interconnection Telecom and Syniverse Technologies is estimated to be $20 million for installing and managing number portability clearing house and centralised datacenter. Both the companies hope to launch the service on the same day -- tentatively September 20 for the first phase of launch. However, that would be possible if telecom operators are also geared with the requisite upgradation of system for the new system, the sources said. In the first phase, the facility would be launched in the telecom cricles of Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi, Andra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Maharastra. In second phase, the service would be launched in the rest of the 14 circles would be within a year. Syniverse India operation head Sanjay Kasturia said global average seeking porting in the first year would be 3-4 per cent. "We will keep our infrastructure ready for 15-20 per cent of total mobile user base initially and scale it up in accordance to the demand," Jacowleff said.
  13. Tata Introduces Speedpro Broadband

Seems to be ADSL2+ technology itself. I wonder how different it is from the normal TATA Indicom Broadband service other than the name?

  19. Business Standard Mumbai November 07, 2008, 0:18 IST In yet another predatory pricing move, Reliance Communications (RCom) is launching the cheapest business phone in the country priced around Rs 10,000 to take on existing leaders such as BlackBerry and Nokia. At present, the cheapest business phone (with personal digital assistants) is priced at Rs 15,000, while high-end phones are available around Rs 13,000. RCom has completed beta testing and is gearing up for a commercial launch by the next month-end under its own brand. AnyDay, a US-based technology and design firm, has developed the phone for the company, sources close to the development said. The phone will be manufactured in China. RCom’s smartphone will have internet capabilities, push-mail services (like BlackBerry), Microsoft Office (mobile edition) and PDA functionalities (like address book and appointment reminders). The phone also sports a QWERTY keyboard and has 3G capabilities, but does not have a camera. An RCom spokesperson said the firm was constantly looking at contributing to the growth of tele-density in the country and has undertaken a number of initiatives to make devices and tariffs more affordable. He, however, declined to comment on the company’s business phone initiatives. At present, there are more than 300 million mobile connections in the country, of which the business phone segment stands at a meagre 3 per cent. Industry analysts are of opinion that this segment is "growing fast" and with 3G services expected to be launched by January 2009, revenues from operators would mainly come from high-end (data) phone users. A late entrant into the telecom space, RCom has always undercut prices to gain immediate access and market share. For example, the company launched Monsoon Hungama in 2003, under which it provided a mobile phone for Rs 501 at a time when the minimum price of a handset was Rs 5,000. It unveiled the cheapest phone at Rs 777 in January this year (at present Spice Mobile sells the cheapest handset at Rs 599) and will soon launch an internet-ready phone for Rs 480.
  20. Sure, if you want to use internet on the move for your laptop or if no broadband is available in your place.
  21. The Hindu Business Line Thursday, Apr 23, 2009 Even though spectrum allocation for third generation (3G) mobile has got delayed, private cellular operators are beginning to use their existing radio frequencies to offer 3G based services to customers. While Reliance Communications and Tata Teleservices have already started offering third generation technology based data cards to consumers, GSM players are also now considering utilising their existing spectrum to launch 3G based services. Both RCoM and Tata Tele are CDMA operators and are offering Evolution Data Optimised (EVDO) technology based data cards which can be plugged into a laptop or a PC to access high speed Internet services. Though the GSM operators had earlier complained to the Department of Telecom that the two CDMA players may be violating norms by offering 3G services even before the spectrum was auctioned, they themselves are now planning to launch the service. “The DoT is keeping silent even though two operators have launched 3G services. We cannot sit and watch while they take the first movers advantage so we are also planning to start offering 3G services with our existing spectrum,” said a GSM industry representative. According to senior officials in the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, operators can use their existing spectrum for any type of service. “The Unified Access Licence is technology neutral. So if operators want to offer 3G based services on their available spectrum they can do so,” said a TRAI official. Technically GSM players can offer 3G services using bandwidth in the existing 900 Mhz and 1800 Mhz. However, unlike CDMA players, the GSM operators need at least 5 Mhz of dedicated bandwidth for offering 3G services. The difference being that while CDMA players are using EVDO technology, GSM operators will have to use the Wide band CDMA (WCDMA) technology for evolving into 3G services. Given that most of the GSM operators are already finding it tough to manage their growing 2G subscriber base in the existing spectrum it may be difficult for them to earmark additional bandwidth for 3G data services. But some of the operators could go for a limited launch now and then beef up operations once the auctions take place later this year.
  22. With AirTel and now TATA Indicom joining the FUP bandwagon, I think Reliance might introduce FUP as well for BroadNet service, afterall it was implemented for Netconnect service already.
  23. That is a prepaid plan, right? Then it looks like they do not have the usage check facility for prepaid. Can you ask CC about it?
