Updated : Mtnl Launches 3g Services In Delhi !
Arun replied to Honest's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
MTNL to launch 3G mobile services on February 5 4 Feb 2009, 2047 hrs IST State-owned telecom operator Mahanagar Telephone Nigam (MTNL) will become the first telco to launch third-generation (3G) mobile services commercially on Thursday. The launch comes in the backdrop of delays in rollout of 3G services by private operators with the 3G policy being referred to a group of ministers (GoM). Auction for 3G spectrum was earlier delayed due to differences between the Department of Telecom (DoT) and the finance ministry over the base price and the number of 3G operators in each circle. MTNL competes with private firms, including Bharti Airtel, Vodafone, Reliance Communications, Idea Cellular and Tata Teleservices, in India. State-owned telcos MTNL and BSNL were given 3G spectrum last year before the private players, giving them the first mover's advantage. MTNL has earlier said it would offer 3G services free to its high-spending mobile customers initially. 3G services on a mobile phone will allow customers to access the Internet and data applications at speeds of up to 2 megabytes per second. Mobile users will have access to advanced services such as video calls, broadband wireless data, faster online video streaming and a better gaming experience. Currently all mobile services are provided over the second generation (2G) network. MTNL's 3G services have been christened MTNL 3G Jadoo. Motorola is setting up the core network for MTNL for this launch. Initially, services will be launched in central Delhi, including Connaught Place, India Gate, Pragati Maidan, Delhi Gate and Minto Road. The services will later be extended to Gurgaon. BSNL is also expected to launch commercial 3G services soon. -

Assam's "Reliance Smart GSM" subscribers will say they were discriminated by paying higher amount for the SIM and not getting free Rs.10 talk time per day and free night R2R unlimited which other states are getting. "Reliance Mobile GSM" is in a "beta" phase for now, you can't expect to have all offers in the beginning itself. It may take a few months atleast for other offers to be announced. I would prefer them to sort out network issues, etc. first and have a reliable network/service before starting to announce new offers.

Reliance Plans To Launch Rural Variant Of Wireless Internet Service
Arun posted a topic in Reliance Communications
Economic Times 3 Feb 2009, 2250 hrs IST In a bid to challenge state owned telco BSNL's dominance in rural circles, Reliance Communications (RCom) plans to launch a rural variant of its wireless Internet service – Net Connect with a tariff benchmark of below Rs 500. For the rural rollout, RCom has tied up with the Chinese telecom infrastructure company, Huawei as the equipment supplier, the price of which is unlikely to be subsidized for the rural circles, according to company sources. This might prove a dampener as affordable equipment is primary requirement of rural space. Currently, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is the largest player in rural space with over 50% market share, while private operators account for a miniscule share. However, RCom has ambitious plans to capture about 30% market share of the rural Internet subscriber base over the next one year. The company has already shipped over 2 lakh equipments for the first phase of rollout, company sources said. The company is targeting the home user segment to capture the dial-up users. The company will launch services through its existing network in 400,000 villages and 20,000 smaller towns in a phased manner. The services will be available to customers in rural areas in 14 circles before the end of this month, while the first phase is set to start in a week. When contacted an RCom spokesperson said, "We continuously evaluate options to enhance the value proposition of our products and services to our subscribers across India, however, we would not like to comment on this." -

Business Standard Bhubaneswar January 26, 2009, 0:01 IST Reliance Communications (RCom) has integrated its GSM and CDMA mobile services in its Orissa circle. The twin services will now be offered to the subscribers of the state under a single platform called Reliance Mobile. The operational merger of the two services will enable the telecom service provider to achieve effective utilisation of its resources, leverage the strengths of the two services and also result in better coordination among its retail channel partners. “To provide easy and better services to its subscribers in Orissa, Reliance Communications has integrated its GSM and CDMA mobile services in the state. The integration will enable us to have a better coordination among our retail channel partners and also help bring commendable growth in the company’s business”, Aman Roychowdhury, business head (CDMA and GSM services), Reliance Communications (Orissa circle) said in a signed letter to the company’s retail channel partners. Following the integration, all the employees as well as the retail channel partners will come under a single fold called Reliance Mobile and there will be a single marketing department to cater to GSM and CDMA services. It may be noted that Reliance Communications offers its GSM services under “Smart” brand. In its Orissa circle, Reliance Communications has a subscriber base of over 19 lakh (as on December 31, 2008) which includes 7,29,612 CDMA customers and around 12 lakh GSM customers.

12" and below are categorized normally under ultra-portables. They don't usually have an optical drive, is that OK for you? Else go for a 13"+ laptop though it will have a weight of atleast 2 kg.

I had complained to *333 as well and they the SMS was sent to me, but I didn't receive it. Does your handset have EDGE? How is the speed? To which email address did you send the email? -
Well, its primarily for Reliance Mobile even though we discuss other services of Reliance Communications. Search engine traffic brings in visitors who use brand name keywords like "Reliance Mobile", hence we use it in the title to get more traffic.

Added "GSM" in the home page description now.
