  2. It is likely that your card has been skimmed. You will defenitely get the refund and waiting for 60 days is a pain, but the interest charges for 60 days of that transaction will be refunded as well. Its wierd that they have added the transaction after 3 billing cycles, maybe it was a transaction done by someone else, but got logged under your account. If they claim that your card was infact skimmed, make sure that you request for a new card. Anyway, ICICI's Customer Care is good, so you will not be left in the dark. Make sure that you use the card at established merchants. Keep an eye on the waiter if you give the card to him in a hotel.

  4. Mumbai - April 8, 2008 Business Standard In what is a significant victory for the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG), a Netherlands-based district court in the Hague has upheld an order by the arbitration tribunal of the International Chamber of Commerce in 2006 directing Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd (VSNL, now Tata Communications) to permit Reliance Globalcom (formerly Flag Telecom) to upgrade its bandwidth capacity at the cable landing station in Mumbai. The district court has also ordered the Tata group company to pay proceeding charges of euro 13,092 plus euro 12,844 for legal representation to ADAG. The decision comes just ahead of a final verdict on the dispute in which Flag Telecom has separately sought $400 million (Rs 1,600 crore) in damages. Hearings for this issue have ended. Under an agreement with VSNL, Flag terminated its undersea cable at the Tata group company’s landing station at Mumbai. This meant Flag also required VSNL’s permission to upgrade cable capacity. In 2004, VSNL denied Flag this permission on various technical grounds. ADAG filed for arbitration with the international tribunal in December 2004 against Tata Communications on two accounts. One, it had asked for directions to allow the company to upgrade the capacity of the Indian leg of the cable. Two, it demanded compensation for the business opportunity it had lost due to its inability to upgrade the capacity. While the tribunal had given a ruling in favour of Reliance in 2006, the Tatas had appealed against the decision in the district court in the Hague with a request to set aside the ruling. “Given that none of the arguments advanced by VSNL is accepted by the court, its claims will have to be rejected,” the district court of the Hague said in its conclusion of the judgment. “Given that VSNL is the party whose arguments have not been accepted, it will be ordered to pay the costs of these proceedings. In connection with the determination of the amount of costs to be awarded in favour of Flag, the court will consider the underlying substantive interest of the case. Both parties have indicated on the occasion of the oral argument that the underlying substantive interest amounts to around $400 million,” it added. When contacted, a Reliance Globalcom spokesperson confirmed receiving a copy of the judgment. A Tata Communications spokesperson said: “Tata Communications is disappointed with the decision of the Hague Court and is considering its options for appeal with its advisers.” Flag Telecom was incorporated in 1997 and acquired by ADAG in January 2003. ADAG wanted to increase the capacity of the cable from 10 gigabytes to 180 gigabytes to cater to the growing demand for bandwidth in India. However, with the international arbitration council ruling in its favour, it has upgraded the capacity to 80 gigabytes. The group also announced a $400 million FALCON cable that connected 14 countries in West Asia to India and seamlessly integrated with Flag Global Network. Currently, the cable connects 39 countries across four continents. The company had recently announced a $1.5 billion project under which it would be laying 50,000 km of fresh optic fibre, bringing in over 65 countries across six continents within its network. COMMUNICATION GAP (A brief history of the controversy) December 22, 2004: Reliance Globalcom (then Flag Telecom) requests arbitration with the International Chamber of Commerce, which directs Tata Communications to grant access to Flag cable at the former’s landing station in Mumbai. It also asks for compensation May 17, 2006: A three-member tribunal issues a final partial award in favour of Reliance Globalcom September 7, 2006: Tata Communications approaches the Hague District court seeking the award be set aside

  6. Lg Rd 6130 {network Problem}

    well, changing the board will cost as much the actual cost of the phone... you are better off getting a new phone instead... since it is 3 years old, you won't get warranty now
  7. well yes... guess we have reached those limits... I'm in for the call conference, available for trials during late hours as well!
  8. Faster Browsing Through Opera Browser(netconnect)

    not sure whether suviraj meant Opera browser for the PC or Mobile?
  9. Antivirus

    There are many anti virus softwares available for Windows Mobile. I found a review of the Top 5 antivirus softwares here: http://www.bestsecuritytips.com/xfsection+...rticleid+98.htm I personally would not run an antivirus in a PPC/Mobile because that would take a lot of precious RAM which would slow down other applications.
  10. Blackberry solution expected by April 9 April 04, 2008 00:51 IST Business Standard Research-in-Motion, the Canada-based provider of Blackberry services, has assured Indian operators that it has come up with a solution to the contentious issue of allowing government security agencies to monitor the service without compromising data security. Communications Minister A Raja confirmed that the solution will be finalised at a meeting with the Department of Telecommunication on April 9. This is expected to end uncertainty for 400,000 users in India and telecom companies like Bharti Airtel, Vodafone-Essar, Reliance Communications, BPL and others that provide this small but high-revenue service. Top RIM executives had a long meeting on the details of the solution with operators in Delhi under the aegis of the Cellular Operators Association of India on Thursday. Blackberry has been under fire since December after the government rejected an application from Tata Teleservices to operate the service. All companies offering the service were also directed to discontinue it from December 31, 2007. In later meetings, the government demanded the encryption level of the services be reduced, a move operators argued was untenable in the interests of security. "Most of our users are corporations, so high encryption levels cannot be compromised for corporate mails flowing through the system," said a senior executive.
  11. Do you think everything you see on reel is real?
  12. RIM was given more time to find a solution. DoT has asked BlackBerry to setup servers in India so that it can be intercepted, though I don't think it may be viable for them. I found an interesting debate about the Blackberry issue here: http://www.business-standard.com/common/ne...18636&tab=r
  13. I have used Good Mobile Messaging system ( http://www.mailstreet.com/wireless/goodlink.asp ) which works fine on PPC 6700, gives you a Blackberry like service! It requires the MailStreet Hosted Exchange service also. Currently I use their ActiveSync service ( http://www.mailstreet.com/is/microsoft-active-sync.asp ) which is cheaper and works with Outlook in your PPC. I have Microsoft Direct Push also enabled in PPC 6700, so push mail works really well.

  17. VSNL / TATA Communications has launched its WiMAX services for consumers in Bangalore this week. Even though the branding is yet to be done, it will be known as TATA Indicom WiMAX broadband service for now. Bookings have started this week and installations will start from Monday. Reliance WiMAX had lot of issues when they started, but VSNL claims that they have done extensive testing like about more than a year and they have been providing WiMAX services to their corporate customers till now. They claim to have more than double base stations installed in Bangalore than Reliance. With the help of more base stations, they will be able to handle more requests, so lesser DHCP issues probably. TATA Indicom broadband (wireline) had frequent disconnection problems because of last mile overhead connectivity in Bangalore and other big cities. WiMAX should resolve this problem. So some tough competition for Reliance WiMAX now ! The plans available are the same as TATA Indicom broadband plans, but plans with 256 kbps and above only. All prices are inclusive of taxes and all plans have unlimited data transfer. ----- Pre Paid: Power On & On 3-256 - 256 Kbps - Rs 3203 - 3 Months validity - Installation - Rs 562 Power On & On 6-256 - 256 Kbps - Rs 6068 - 6 Months validity - Installation free Power On & On 3-512 - 512 Kbps - Rs 5933 - 3 Months validity - Installation free Power On & On 6-512 - 512 Kbps - Rs 11,192 - 6 Months validity - Installation free In the special launch offer, you get 3 months extra validity for any plan ! ------ ------ Post Paid: 256 Kbps - Rs 1124 per month 512 Kbps - Rs 2079 per month 1 Mbps - Rs 4045 per month In the special launch offer, apply for 4 months in advance and get 2 months extra free and security deposit (Rs.1000) and installation charge (Rs.1000) waived off. ----- I'm not sure if the launch offer is limited (I heard for the first 3000 connections). The launch offer does look good, which is like Rs.500 + tax for 256 kbps unlimited data transfer per month. It is risky to apply for 3/4 months in advance, but they did promise me that they would refund (pro-rated) if I can cancel in between. I have applied for the connection yesterday and hope to get it by next weekend. Will post an update once it is ready !

  19. Press Trust of India Friday, March 28, 2008 Mumbai A man from Andhra Pradesh's Adilabad district was arrested today for allegedly floating a web page on a popular blogging site falsely stating that Reliance Anil Dhirubai Ambani Group (ADAG) was soon entering into multi-level marketing (MLM). MLM, also referred to as network marketing, is a business distribution model that allows a parent MLM company to market their products directly to consumers by means of relationship referral and direct selling. The matter came to light when the legal department of the ADAG filed a complaint with the cyber cell on March 18. The complaint said that someone had launched a webpage (http://reliancemlmindia.blogspot.com) and was trying to cheat people. On the website, the 36-year-old had claimed that ADAG is entering into MLM businesses, including selling mobile phone handsets and insurance policies, starting April 10 and invited applications for the same. Cyber cell officials traced the IP address and reached a cyber cafe in Adilabad district's Mancherial town from where the webpage was uploaded. From the cafe's log book, it was ascertained that Thaduvayi had used the computer. Thaduvayi also gave the investigators the password to a contact e-mail ID given on the web page from where a lot of information has been recovered, they said. Being a marketing person, Reddy’s schemes were well-planned, the police said. “It was a well-planned trap, but we foiled it before it became a big scam,” DCP Sanjay Mohite said. Reddy just wanted those interested to fill up a form, giving their personal details, including name and address. He, however, did not demand any money from them, the police said. The man has been booked under IPC sections 468 (forgery) and 419 (cheating by impersonation), they said. When is Shaj going to be arrested? http://www.rimweb.in/forums/index.php?showtopic=12053
  20. Buzz on lower mobile bills March 27, 2008 The Telegraph Local and domestic long distance mobile call tariffs may drop further, thanks to telecom regulator Trai’s decision to do away with a fee that private telecom operators pay to state-run BSNL. Mobile companies plan to pass on the benefits of the move to subscribers. However, they are unwilling to specify the quantum of discount they intend to pass on. Trai said access deficit charge (ADC) levied on domestic calls would be scrapped from April, while that on international calls would be initially halved to 50 paise per minute before phasing it out from October this year. “The rule is outdated and it’s good it’s being phased out,” said Mahesh Uppal, a telecom analyst. ADC is a type of tax paid by private telecom operators to the government for failing to keep their commitment to roll out telecom services in rural areas. The money is used by companies such as the state- run BSNL to connect villages. “We need to nevertheless fund BSNL through the USO fund (set up specifically to create rural telecom network),” Uppal added. At present, mobile service providers pay 0.75 per cent of their gross revenue for domestic calls as ADC, and Re 1 per minute on all international incoming calls. Bharti Airtel welcomed the regulator's move and said it would pass on the benefits to its customers. The firm said it would announce the details within a week, after consulting the telecom regulator. A Vodafone Essar spokesperson said, “We welcome the move. We are committed to passing on the benefit to our customers in an equitable manner and will announce it shortly.” According to industry analysts, growing revenues, a rising subscriber base, emergence of wireless phone connections and a mobile penetration of nearly three times compared with fixed lines — ADC is levied on fixed-line calls too — has reduced the relevance of the subsidy. BSNL, however, wanted the levy to stay as any change would affect its expansion plans in remote areas. Trai has decided to recommend to the government to provide BSNL Rs 2,000 crore annually from the universal service obligation fund for a period of three years to compensate the loss of ADC revenue. BSNL was getting Rs 5,000 crore annually through ADC till about two years ago from private players. Following Trai’s announcement, telecom stocks soared today. The Bharti stock rose 2.68 per cent to close at Rs 824.65, while Reliance Communications gained 2.27 per cent to end at Rs 538.05. The Idea Cellular scrip also rose 2.13 per cent to finish at Rs 103.25.

  24. R Netconnect Tarriff Charge

    True, sadly they haven't bothered to lower the monthly charges for a long time now. They have just decreased the cost for data card, which isn't beneficial to existing susbscribers. Hopefully they will have better plans for EVDO or Mobile WiMAX when 3G is introduced.
