Austin I know thats a bit tough. I actually used my Sony 2000 Watts music system at max volume (Believe me that was glass shattering loud.. ) and held the handset very close to the speaker, literally sticking it to the speaker. This gave me decent pitch recording, thought not as loud and clear as expected. I think a better way is to record a incoming call. I have noticed that if you are talking to someone on phone and if you record the other person's voice with voice recorder (And the earpiece volume set to max), then it records pretty loud and clear. So what can be done is that if you have 2 cell phones, call your gtran from the other fone, say model 'X' and then hold model 'X' very close to the music system's speaker and record the incoming feed on GTRAN. BTW this is a suggestion. I havent tried it and am not sure whether it works, But wht's the harm in trying

Hey dude, just chill ok ... My reaction was to Chirag's witty reply and it wasnt offensive against you in any way ... As far as i know, its been only 3-4 days of your joining this forum as well as getting a RIM phone. I dont think your matured enough as a member or a RIM owner to make such a comment. If ur so unhappy with a RIM phone why the hell did you get one recently ?

hey NIL its nice to hear that you have tried BITPIM with GTRAN Pal tones and wallpapers can be directly downloaded on a GTRAN phone through PC SYNC s/w and a cable. ITs a customisable phone. Yes if you'r really interested then try finding if new java games can be programmed into GTRAN using BITPIM or other CDMA s/w . I say this because only games cannot be customised in a GTRAN. And also, RWORLD doesnt hold much games for gtran, only a TIC TAC TOE If any way is found to add / replace the current games in GTRAN with other JAVA games like PRince of persia, splinter cell etc, then it will be gr8 ! Since GTRAN supports java, I think this may be possible.

LOL .... LOL..... LMAO ..... ROFL Chirag, You just snatched the words out of my mouth ... lollll But i guess you have really put BB's bottom (Bored's Brother is a bit too long to refer everytime) on the stove Hey BB, man get used to tolerating some humour. We all are pals here, but remember, if you make posts like those, you surely are inviting replies like that

I dont know where the other GTRAN owners are ? Are you guys sleeping or what ? lol Karpar you'r right, this is the second most popular set after LG 2030. 2030 has got this share of popularity with 1.5 years of launch and more than 8 months of member postings on this forum. But GTRAN forum has managed to grab the second position in just a month of launch of both - The phone and the subforum as well ! I have taken the initiative to lead this Sub-forum to make it the most popular and leading handset in RIMWEB. It makes me happy that its already the second most popular one. This is the aim with which i accepted the Moderatorship of this Sub Forum. The threads that i have started have been getting good responses and attracting a lot of Gtran users / potential GTRAN buyers. But this poll post seems to have been ignored by guests and members alike Guys no IT Dept guys are gonna raid you if you participate in the poll here as a GTRAN owner lol So go ahead and take part in the poll if you own a GTRAN. Its a gr8 phone and if you own it, you'r a proud owner

Well guys, am back after 2 days and i see a lot of activity in this thread Thats really good. Actually I had to make few presentations in past 2 days and was damn busy with it. I am taking a nice break now, will party till sunday Well BB (Sorry Bored's Brother is bit too long to refer everytime ), you really do expect too much from the phone. But pal it will meet most of your expectations. For me, it exceeded mine Answering your queries : 1) Group SMS : As austin said, no predefined group sms function but you can send one sms to 10 different cell nos. So thats what you get from a GTRAN 2) Blink SMS : Not recieved one yet 3) Msg length : 160 Characters 4) Ringtone forwards from nokia : Why do you want those dumb monophonic ringtones forwarded from a nokia when you can download 16 chord full length polyphonic ringtones from your PC (Midi files of your choice) Or even better record an mp3 or your own vocals through voice recorder and set it as your ringtone .... BB, when you are comparing GTRAN with a nokia, do compare the LCD display of both phones as well . I used to own a nokia 6610 - A good handset with gr8 features. But am sorry to say, Nokias have a 4000 colour dull display which is hardly 100 x 100 in size. Its not even 3/4ths of GTRAN's display in size. The colour display is useless and its only good for cartoons and colour backgrounds. Photos come out very badly on it. Brightness of the screen is also quite low. In my past 4 years of cell phone usage i have never come across such a gr8 colour display like the GTRAN's I have also checked out LG 7130 colour handset. Its really bulky and oddly shapped. The display is good but again not comparable to GTRAN. And the worst, you cant customise it. So be happy with those 10 tones and images downloaded from R WORLD ( BTW everyone knows what kind of ringtones are available on R WORLD ) Austin, You said it pal But i dont agree with your statement : Actually it depends on what Nokia model you compare a GTRAN with. Nokias have their own set of problems. Besides if you compare a GTRAN worth Rs. 5650 (exchange price ) with a Nokia priced at 15 K, obviously Nokia is gonna be better. But as I had said in the first post of this thread, GTRAN provides highest value for money wherein value = benefit/cost Anyways handset preferences can be very subjective and what's a beauty for one can be a useless handset for another !

Well pal i i think the limitations of the phone have been discussed in this and other threads in GTRAN forum. Being more specific, 1) As far as pocket handling is concerned, the phone is small, light and slim so its easy. The only concern is to protect the external sub led from getting scratched/cracked 2 & 3) R World usage is simply a delight with Colour icons and stuff. The wap sites which have images and all display very well on the browser and colour browsing is a fun (Provided the wap website supports it) 4) Never used R Connect so i dont know ! 5) Signal strength is quite decent. Never had a dropped call till now (This has been discussed as well, pal u gotta keep your eyes open ) Anyway, try a demo handset at R WORLD and then only decide. 'Consider other's opinions but always make your decisions'

Sure pal, no problemo

Hey thats gr8 info neo Thanks pal !

Hey man dont you ever say or think so lol , This is my biggest fear, Coz the phone's body (if scratched or gets dirty) cannot be replaced by OEM body covers. Body covers are available for lg 2030 and samsung b/w handsets. But in flip phones there are no OEM / 3rd party covers available. The only remedy would be original GTRAN new body which would be more than thousand bucks am sure. Another concern is the dual LCD, the external sub LCD display may crack if the phone falls on the ground. Iam sure that will also cost me a bomb ! I really handle this phone with care. Though i've had costlier phones earlier but this is my first flip phone and it requires to be really handled with care

Ananth i gotta tell you, the speaker of this phone is really loud and crisp. Unlike lg 2030 which has a loud but distorted speaker, this phone has clear voice reception. About the signal, right now am in my cubicle of a fully enclosed centrally AC office on second floor and its showing me 6 full bars of reception. The reception is more or less stable. even when it shows 1 or 2 bars, call quality is quite decent and i havent witnessed any lost calls till now. The reason behind this is that it has a very long antenna - A small part of which is external whereas a long portion of it is behind the battery (internal - under the battery). Works gr8 !

Hey thanks Code. Will get the values checked for my GTRAN phone and then see what can be done
-
Pals I dont think thats a feature of the phone i.e. battery saving while on travel charger mode. I've used several cell phones in past 4 years and all had travel chargers. They never used to act this way on being charged. I think its gotta do with the software. Since its a new phone, there are chances of bugs in it. This normally happens with all new cell phone models. The Cell phone company fixes them by releasing newer versions of the software. I hope GTRAN does that soon.
-
I think thats completely correct ! gr8 observation pal .. GTRAN is a new handset i think launched last month only. And we all know the guys @ R WORLD. I think it will take few more weeks (or maybe months) till all links are updated and optimized for GTRAN sets. Thanks for clearing the issue CODE .

Static I have tried resetting R MENU as well as clearing memory from R WORLD but i cant have the game on my handset. Is it available on LG 7130 and samsung colour handsets ? Or is it available only for b/w handsets. BTW i can access and play TIC TAC TOE under multiplayer in full colour through RWORLD, but as i said and Tanveer confirmed, only CRIC and multiplayer is available and CRIC doesnt work

Charging Spare Battery On Desktop Charger
gtran_rocks replied to gtran_rocks's topic in Other handsets
Karpar, Flip phones are completely different from normal phones. See there is no need to switch off the backlight while charging. I'll tell you why ... Coz the display of a flip phone (atleast this GTRAN model) is switched on only when you open the phone. The moment you close the flip, not only the backlight but also the display gets completely switched off (Only the Sub LCD on the flap functions). And while charging or when not using the phone, the flip is closed. Yes switching off the backlight is a good idea to save battery when you are using the phone - like making a call, recieving a call or using R WORLD etc. I do that as well. And the best part is that the display of GTRAN is so rich that its completely viewable without backlight as well. -
Charging Spare Battery On Desktop Charger
gtran_rocks replied to gtran_rocks's topic in Other handsets
Karpar I think phone doesnt have anything to do with charging. Yes, when you use the travel charger, the phone helps making the process smarter by showing a Progress Indicator and Battery charged info. I have been charging my battery without the fone on a desktop charger and it charges properly and in a riskfree manner -
Code, I have a GTRAN handset which comes with a pretty inconvenient handsfree. Its short and wierd. Maybe has some cigarette charger attachment. I was wondering if those LG handsfree work with GTRAN. Can you help me with this one ? Also i believe fm radio handsfree are available for LG. Is their reception quality good enough? and will they work with GTRAN, any idea ?

Charging Spare Battery On Desktop Charger

Thanks for appreciating the review and the tips Ananth

You'r welcome pals .. Well as far as the application download on the phone goes, the current software "PC SYNC" doesnt allow that. It allows you to transfer ringtones, pictures, animation, phonebook and calendar. So no games download, no application download on the phone for now. Maybe some of the techie guys will hack into the phone in future and game download will become possible. BTW Tanveer, I stay and work in Mumbai

Guys, some member made a post regarding wap access to hotmail/yahoo accounts through a website : http://mymail.ie/mymail/home.asp It may be an innocent act. But guys let me warn you, this website takes charge of ur email account. It asks you not only your email Id but also your actual email password and a pin id . So the idea is that you can access the mail on wap using only the pin. But gullible wap surfers forget that they are actually submitting their complete web mail details to this webmaster including their actual mail passwords. I am sure this webmaster must have built up a huge database of yahoo and hotmail user ids and passwords with which he can do anything - literally anything - Read ur private mails, mess with your account, use your account for porn signups. The possibilities are endless. So friends pls be warned. Also those who have already submitted their passwords, immediately change them Bye

Downloaded uniCDMA and tried it It doesnt support the GTRAN handset. It only supports the following fones : LG SAMSUNG HYUNDAI QUALCOMM Withus SKY I guess that answers your question BORED. Also, I have added a reply in the "Ringtones?" post by Rahuldevnath regarding the vibration and heating up issue with GTRAN. Read it, may be useful.
