  1. hey guys, got some info from a webworld here... If that is to be believed, RIM is about to offer a new color handset for 4500/- bucks outright!!! Now did we GTRAN buyers feel disappointed?
  2. Disadvantages of Gtran

Yes friends, the above GTRAN Auth Center info is absolutely correct... I called them up and they have suggested me to get my Handset replaced from a Webworld... to fix up the network issues.... And guess what - GTRAN stock is almost finished thru out India... So no replacement possible yet... I have to live with this "Gayab" network connectivity... This is getting interesting... Regdng software and other centers list, the person to whom I talked did not have enuff info, so he has asked me to call him up again in a day or 2... will do that and update you again....
  3. Lg2030 Antenna

Yes, I agree, and thats why I am now looking for an external antenna. BTW here is some strange thing i noticed: In my GTRAN handset, the internal end tip of the antenna is not/never connected to any electronic circuit in the phone (as it seems, when I tried to "research upon"). So how does it work? (I believe, thats why mine does not work with GTRAN )
  4. Signal Boosters

Hi, I have a GTRAN Handset, and it does not work when in closed premises (basement, or corner rooms etc.) can you tell me from where I can get some portable, external antenna, along witha socket that can plug in to my GTRAN Handset? Thanks in advance.
  5. Rel Broadband gets stiff competition

Some more info: 1. Hathway's plan - 256 kbps, Rs 750/- p.m. (isn't this unlimited?) And Hathway's commitment is to provide the promised throughput, even if the user base reaches too much (unlike other ISPs in India, as we have seen during past few years). 2. Tata indicom launched DSL, 512kbps at Rs. 500/- p.m.* (there is a star with this offer, I believe some 100/200 hours package). But still, at this speed this is something heavy, and from good old INDIAN - TATA uncle!! - So my best bet!!! 3. Hotwire - Rs. 1000 p.m. - unlimited @ 64kbps (thruput - around 7 KiloBytes/s, I can tell you its average thruput since I have this connection ) 4. Then our poor R-Connect - - 128kbps, that gives thruput no more than a traditional 56 kbps modem connection
  6. Disadvantages of Gtran

Hi Chirag, Yes I will do that, for sure , but till now I was unable to contact those guys, their phone number is always out of reach. Being a RIM number, this is just ok , so I will wait till tomorrow before visiting them. I am just trying to confirm before visiting, as they are around 40KM away from my place. Another reason for my delay in answering was that I was quite busy with getting my RIM services in shape. Everyone who has recently upgraded handset, please take a look at this forum and let me know if you too faced this problem...
  7. Disadvantages of Gtran

I was running behind RIM Customer care for the network issues... And hey, here I found one Authorized Service Center for GTRAN. Its in Delhi, and here goes the address: ---------------------------------------------------------------- Ucom Technologies Pvt Ltd, 45, 1st floor, Corner Mkt, Malviyda Nagar, New Delhi Contact#: 33175473 Contact Person: Rupinder Singh Sehgal ---------------------------------------------------------------- This info is as per reliance customer care, THEREFORE I still have to confirm this by calling those guys tomorrow Shall confirm all of you know if this is valid... or as expected by us all...
  8. Disadvantages of Gtran

Ha Ha Ha!! Atleast I found someone else who is as equally UNsatisfied with GTRAN as I am... Buddy my deepest sympathies... Buddy I also have similar problems with GTRAN, that I bought majorly because of praises seen elsewhere on the forums, but just like you I did not bother to look for the negative side before buying (actually there was no way to find those before hand, as Web World ppl dont any handset Demo anymore, especially for GTRAN. All they have are dummies for Samsung/LG sets. I have been using GTRAN since few days. Mine experience was not upto the mark, especially after getting so positive reviews by some other members, who I believe are lucky ones, I had a lot of expectations frm GTRAN, maybe... I have summarized my experiences here. So anyone who is THINKING of buying this one, should consider this to get the other side of the coin... As far as the negative points are concerned, if someone has justifying answers to these problems, it would be great, since that will reduce the dissatisfying aspects, and can help usget some solution to the issues. 1. Network reception is NOT GOOD with GTRAN. (for me atleast, have compared with both the LG and Samsung b/w) 2. Battery falls flat within 2 hours talk time. 3. Even in standby mode, does not lasts longer than 7-8 hours 4. Using the provided Handsfree Kit is a pain! (is real complex to handle, and the wire from earpiece to phone is way less than 2 feet!!!) [more details - http://www.rimweb.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=1323] 5. When you have to send a message, it asks some thousand questions before sending it... and you cant disable those.... 6. SMS gets wrapped in between the words (e.g. 'hello' at the end of a line may cut in 2 parts as: .......hel lo..... 7. SMS memory is too less (17 messages max) 8. Using the phonebook is a pain. It takes a long time to show a number 9. Phonebook is buggy, messes up when 2 numbers are provided in the same name 10. Ringtone volume is too low, (since the ringer speaker is inside the flip, the sound gets suppressed, samsung ringtones are much louder) 11. Camera (an out of question option) Resolution is real bad (atleast dont buy with camera if you do buy) 12. Color resolution might appear good at the first look, but actually, the display is old standard (UFB) and goes black in sunlight. 13. The handsfree kit is buggy. So you cant use the handsfree kit when the flip is closed. (for e.g. when the flip is closed, and you have a missed call, the answer button does not work) 14. The phone gets too Hot (too hot to handle?? ) while talking for more than a few minutes. 15. Many R-World apps dont work with GTRAN (atleast as of now!) 16. Easy SMS with dictionary (how to add a word???) and easy access to symbols is not that easy 17. After sales service? So I suggest you all to consider both the views and then judge yourself.
  9. Lets Share Midi Files For Gtran

One more good thing: On all sites that allow downloading ringtones, the ringtone previews are available as midi files. So we GTRAN users can use any of those sample midi files as ringtones, and that too for free!!! Thats good.... no??? (Provided those are loud enuff...)
  10. All Handsets

Lets discuss issues that can be common to all handsets for Reliance India Mobile here. For e.g. this could be a place of quick comparisons and discussions about generic accessories that can be fit over all Handset types.
  11. Gtran-usb Installation

Hi, can you post some more details on the error message? (i.e. when did this error come, after which step) One point - Have you ever run any device over USB port on this machine? Just check, since it could be a hardware problem for your USB port. Windows 2000 (and above OS) must automatically find and configure USB Support.
  12. Gtran Rocks, Boys !

Got some improvement over the slow phonebook processing - Just keep on clicking the Left menu Key (soft key) continuosly, (after opening the Phone Book option), though it sounds funny, it saves 1-2 seconds from the irritating (searching... and results found...) nag screens... may be or may be I am simply 'killing' some time doing this...
  13. Issue With Entering Phone No.

And one more problem here - when you specify both the mobile number as well as the home phone number for any phonebook entry, the phone displays name just for one of the 2 entries. (I think I sound confusing don't I? )
  14. Mms On Gtran

Yes dude! I too agree with you... I did have fe MMS in my RIM, but now when I logon to R-World and check for new messages, it says 'No New Messages'... Is that true that MMS support is limited with GTRAN? Reliance needs to work hard on R-World now, since other providers like Airtel Live and Hutch GPRS are going step further with their services now.... Its getting too late for us RIM users....
  15. Gtran Rocks, Boys !

Yes mine is also same, and I dont think there could be any newer version, since we all got our GTRAN only recently...
  16. Gtran Rocks, Boys !

Okay guyz... It seems that I am the nly one who's getting network problems... BTW earlier I was using samsung b/w and I compared the reception I used to get on it, with my GTRAN, and posted my experiences as per that. I remember once, with samsung b/w, one of the webworld ppl was suggesting someone to upgrade the software on his phone, to a newer version, to get better network coverage... It seems weird to me on how software can improve network strength!!!! , but anyone who can tell me if this is really useful then I can look for newer version if available... And guyz also tell me what version your sets have, and how do I check my set's version. Thanks in advance..
  17. Gtran Rocks, Boys !

And guyz, here is more about GTRAN: 1. Network reception is NOT GOOD with GTRAN. (Even worse than samsung b/w!!) 2. Battery falls flat within 2 hours talk time. 3. Even in standby mode, does not lasts longer than 7-8 hours (since Network is come and go at my place) My office is in basement, there samsung b/w used to work (though not upto the mark). We can say that it got connected in 1 out of 5 call attempts by people who used to call me. But with GTRAN, it is always out of reach... So I believe I've made a wrong choice... GTRAN is good when you see its display and other jazzy features. but except it there are several other failures, (for e.g. just read more about the handsfree kit functioning in the other topic that i have posted here). Then there is more to it: 4. When you have to send a message, it asks some thousand questions before sending it... and above that they have not given any setting to disabe those prompts.... 5. Then try to search a phone number in the phone book... and ppl who have used GTRAN already know how painful it is... it requires too much key presses even for simple name find!!! Reason: The GTRAN Engg. Team tried to act intelligent, so they created a search form to let you search by gruop, etc... but this only adds to effort required to find a name... After clicking find, it takes around 3 seconds, then displays "XXX results found"... one more second then it displays the macthing results.... so quite painful.... 6. When you have a missed call, you have to opn the Phone Flip, press OK, and then you can see the caller's name.... Come on guyz, see other phones like nokia, samsung, and even LG or motorola, they are smart enuff over these things... I will suggest you all to see the phone demo in detail leaving apart its display... since even display is a dead thing, when you are standing outside under sunshine, you cant see even a single thing!!!!!!!!!!!!! grrrr... And I forgot one more point - ringtone volume... Ringtones are too low in volume for GTRAN. I have used all that are provided as default... The reason for this is that the ringtone speaker is located on the inner face of the flip. So when the flip is closed, the ringtone volume gets even lower... Even the LG b/w model rings louder than this piece of you know what... I know I wasted money... and lost my gud old samsung b/w... :'(
  18. Gtran Handsfree Kit

Hi guyz! Been fiddling with the handsfree Kit that I got with my GTRAN.... after around 1 hour, I felt like yelling - I dont know why the hell they made it so complex. Do they want us to go Bungee Jumping with this Kit with all the Ropes that come along? And When I apply the Kit, I cant even put the phone on my Car's Seat!!! (I had to put it in my shirt pocket after fighting with it for another 15 minutes!! ) Then came along a thought, picked up my old Samsung Kit, and it works (thankfully!) and once again I am a happy man with my GTRAN, and it has again started rocking!!!! (though on Samsung tunes this time, so I believe this time samsung handsfree kit got Full Points!!! Let me know if someone has to say anything about the GTRAN Kit...
  19. Gtran Handsfree Kit

Yes the answer key on my phone does work (thankfully ) BTW It is located on the back of the ear piece... so it is quite uncomfortable to use the answer button from there... One point though, the call button on the ear piece of the handsfree kit stops working if you have even a single missed call after plugging on your handsfree kit!!! But if you open the flap manually once, and cancel the missed call screen, the call/answer button on the ear piece again starts working... actually it seems to be of not much significance if you have to use your hands over the phone keypad to use it... so you might also like to try the auto answer option in that case...
  20. Gtran Rocks, Boys !

Hey guyz! One thing that only few of us knew, while upgrading from b/w phones to GTRAN - There is no insurance on GTRAN Handsets!!! And I learnt this from the Webworld guys ONLY AFTER I had made the payment and the receipt was handed over to me. So this is another HIDDEN thingy about our friendly RIM!!!
  21. GTRAN Ownership Count

Yes Guyz! I am also in this GTRAN Club now... My Decisive Factors: GTRAN Features - 40% Posts by gtran_rocks - 60% lol
  22. Does anyone have this phone?

Hey guyz! Me too got this GTRAN (without camera ) today... Trying to getting used to it. Earlier I had a Samsung B/W from RIM. Will keep posting my experiences on the GTRAN ROCKS forum.... BTW my initial experience says - Full Points!
