  1. I am a customer of both RIM and Tata Indicom (prepaid). There have been many deficiencies in RIM service but those of Tata have lately become too serious. I am getting wrongly billed for daytime-internet usage (night-time is free in the plan) when I am sure that I did not use internet during the day-hours. Over the past few months, the excess charges have sumed up to more than Rs. 2000. Tata's response is that they are right and I am lying. I have no other option left but to approach a consumer court. Would it be worth it, and if so how does one proceed about it? Tata's bill just shows totalled daytime-internet usage minutes. In the absence of a neutral observer, how can the court decide who is right and who is wrong? If forced by a court, they can just show a 'made-up' detailed usage report. Any help will be appreciated.
  2. Net Connect Charges Are Very High

Tata Indicom's Indicom 10 plan (for fixed wireless phone) - Rs 350 per month, including Rs. 200-worth voice/data, comes with free, unlimited night-time internet (40 p/minute day-time).
  3. Moderators of these forums should show good etiquette. Sometimes they do not. For example, one of my posts was deleted but I was not provided an explanation. A simple private message should have sufficed. As such I do not see why the post was deleted. The post just mentioned about a new discussion group on Google groups for Tata Indicom users to cater to their needs the way RIMweb does. Though this is not directly related to RIM services, many RIM users are also Tata Indicom users (like myself) and it was posted in the 'General chat' section.
  4. I live just outside Bhubaneswar, Orissa, with both Reliance and Tata signal towers nearby. I have been using RIM prepaid for internet (which is my main concern). Now that Tata has the wonderful-sounding Indicom 10 plan for postpaid Indicom wireless phone (internet for 40 p/min during daytime with 10-6 night free for Rs 350 pm which includes Rs 200 worth of talk+SMS+internet), I am considering shifting. Currently, I am happy with Reliance with its decent network speed, the lack of congestion or signal dropouts here, and customer service. How does Tata fare in these aspects? Thanks a lot! (Not sure if the Indicom phone is available in Bhubaneswar) ** UPDATE ** July 1, 2006 - The plan is indeed available in Bhubaneswar and I have enrolled in it. The customer service appears to be as good as Reliance's. Internet speeds are 70-120% of what I had with Reliance (depending on the time of day). The signal tower is a km away. Tata Indicom consumer/user group on Google - groups.google.co.in/group/Tata-Indicom-tleservice-users - This discussion group has been started on the internet to cater to the needs of consumers of Tata Indicom's teleservices (such as mobile telephony and broadband internet). It should also help those who are interested in the type and quality of services provided by the company, and are looking for reviews and feedbacks.
  5. I have been using a lot of R Connect with my prepaid RIM lately (Rs 3000+ in 2 months for mainly night-time browsing) and expect to do so for the next 3-4 months. To save money I want to switch to the Freedom plan (free 10-6 night for Rs 400 pm). I have these questions: 1. How do I enroll in that plan? 2. How much balance should be in the account at the beginning and how much should it be maintained at? 3. When does a 'month' start - 1st of the calendar month or the 1st day of enrollment in the plan? 4. Is getting off the plan hassle-free? Thanks.
  6. I have some questions regarding fixed wireless terminal - 1. Compared to a CDMA RIM mobile handset (LG 2230), would I get better signal reception and thus better browsing speed (Igt 2-3 bars on the mobile handset inside my house). 2. I don't have a LAN card on my PC but I have a USB-ethernet (LAN) adapter. Would that be good enough to connect with the FWT. 3. I have multiple regular phone sets and phone jacks (wall outlets in house). Is it possible to have the FWT serve the entire house? There are two connection ports that FWT has and if I plug the FWT to the house system, will the FWT battery drain faster, etc.? Thanks a lot!
  7. I have been using Treewalk DNSfor a while now. This is a free DNS server software that you run locally on your computer to speed up DNS lookups. I feel I have improved browsing speed and get less of 'server not found' errors. Does anyone have experiences to share on this?
