A friend of mine wants to visit Mumbai in December, and wants accomodation that is not heavy on the wallet (cheap). They might be a group of 10, family members. Preferably they want it somewhere close to CST station. So those of you who have any info about cheap accomodation, (name of hotel/lodge and phone number, etc.) could you guys shine your torch this way? Thanks

jusmail replied to abhay's topic in Reliance Communications
I guess with this all the signings of MOUs must be over, and soon we could be hearing about GSM roll out, may be Dec 28th (Late daddy's birthday) ot January -
Till now we were receiving unsolicited phone calls to buy Reliance landline/FWP. Soon, I guess, we will begin to hear, "Sir, we are pleased to offer Reliance free, life time credit card" type phone calls

As for me I have a Samsung 191 for nearly 2 years on postpaid. I have another prepaid (on 2-year life time incoming free) which is an LG 2030 which I recharge with talk time and family members go out of station and on other occasional circumstances. I also had an LG 2130 at one time. Waiting for the GSM switch over before investing in a costlier model.....don't want to lose the number either

Reliance Communication To Enter Gsm Services

The period between now and the actual roll-out is going to be the most uncertain period.....reminds me of the same anxiety we all felt when the switch over to the 93 series was announced and later executed. -
Reliance Communication To Enter Gsm Services
jusmail replied to abhay's topic in Reliance Communications
The majority of the spectrum in India is held by the ministry of Defence, and to relinquish it from them is a lot of red tape, national security, etc. -
You can give it a try. My 191 is still going strong without hickups so far. Hopefully, it will remain the same.

Go to the samsung service center. The problem could be with any of the above.

Lucent buy paves way for Alcatel's CDMA lines Rajesh S Kurup in Mumbai | April 04, 2006 02:47 IST After the acquisition of its US rival Lucent Technologies for $13.4 billion, the French telecommunications infrastructure provider Alcatel SA is to bring in the former's CDMA capabilities to the Indian market. The acquisition will result in Alcatel becoming the world's largest telecom infrastructure provider, in addition to hosting the broadest spectrum of technologies in telecom. This would also help Alcatel set up superior telecom infrastructure, especially in India, which is one of the fastest growing markets. The company, which is slashing the companies' combined workforce by 8,800 personnel, has no intention to reduce employee headcount in India, even though it will pare around 10 percent of its staff worldwide. Alcatel employs over 2,000 personnel in the country, while Lucent employs over 600 personnel in various disciplines. "Alcatel primarily operates in the GSM segment and Lucent in CDMA space, and this acquisition will help the French company offer services across the spectrum. Now, getting the CDMA major's capability, Alcatel will look at offering services to both GSM and CDMA players in the country," sources close to the development told Business Standard on Monday. The domestic CDMA market is growing as state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam, Reliance Infocomm and Tata Teleservices are aggressively rolling out infrastructure, including BTS and switches. Both Alcatel and Lucent officials could not be immediately reached for comment. The company will also look at increasing its R&D presence in the country, and look at making India an important destination for its development activities. After the completion of the acquisition, Alcatel also intends to increase its sales and service presence in the country. Alcatel SA is buying Lucent Technologies in an all-stock deal, and the revenues of the combined entity is slated to be around $25 billion.

Now Trai Gets A New Chief - Are We At A New Telecom Crossroad ?
jusmail posted a topic in The Lounge
New TRAI chief - Nripendra Misra The Government has appointed the former Telecom Department Secretary, Nirpendra Misra, as the new chairman of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India. He succeeds Pradip Baijal. TIMES NEWS NETWORK [ WEDNESDAY, MARCH 22, 2006 01:50:51 AM] Nripendra Misra is the new chairman of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). He will take charge on Wednesday. Pradip Baijal, the existing chairman, retired on Tuesday. Mr Misra is a 1967-batch IAS officer. He will be the first TRAI chairman who has prior experience in the telecom sector. This will help in the functioning of the TRAI as he is familiar with all issues and will be able to contribute to decision-making from day one. Mr Misra has worked as chairman of the telecom commission and as secretary of the department of telecommunications (DoT). During his tenure as secretary, he was known for his transparency in decision making. Mr Misra’s appointment as the new chairman is likely to end an unhealthy relationship between TRAI and the DoT. During the past year, TRAI and DoT opposed each other on almost all important decisions. No differences between DoT and TRAI: Telecom chief - Rediff.com March 22, 2006 16:02 IST New Chairman of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India Nripendra Misra said on Wednesday there were no differences between the regulator and the Department of Telecom. Misra promised to continue with the policies of his predecessor Pradeep Baijal. "There is no fresh look into any policy.. no question of that, there is always a continuity. We never start from a clean slate. It is a modular approach and we build on that", Misra told reporters immediately after taking charge of TRAI. Asked about reports of differences between DoT during his tenure as Secretary and TRAI and if there was a move for removing Baijal as the TRAI Chairman, he said, "There was no such move. DoT had not approached the Prime Minister's Office on any such issue. "There were no differences with TRAI when I was in the department and I am sure there were no such differences even after that," the telecom chief added. "I can't comment on the opinion of any Member Parliament," he said when reminded about the CPM's demand for action against Baijal on charges of favouring some private operators. On whether the biggest challenge for him would be the handling the government or telecom operators, Misra said, "None. I would want to complete three-year tenure with the same kind of certificate that my predecessor got from the media." The telecom chief said cooperation from all -- private sector, public sector, government, service providers and the telecom department -- was essential for the development of the sector. -
Let's see if this works--but gotta wait 30 days eh?

All service providers have customer care problems. When you switch over you will notice that the grass is not green on the other side. Anyway, with increased customer base, cc has been having long wait. The best time to call is early in the morning. PS: At with RIM, we have this wonderful website where we can share and keep track of happenings; if lucky find solutions to specific problems. For other service providers, there are no user-based website for troubleshooting -
