  1. Lets Ask Arun

Cool thanks. I see that you have posted both the links there. But I fail to see the harm in allowing the thread to remain open. Anyway, its ok by me, as I don't have much else to say
  2. Anybody wants a Ozone WiFi access voucher? 1GB, valid for 2 months. You can find hotspots on their site - www.ozonewifi.com
  3. Lets Ask Arun

No. Wanted to post this - http://www.thestar.c...india-s-biggest f On reading it, I suddenly recalled one of my friends investing a lot in it, couple of years ago. and was kinda recommending it to me as he said he was getting awesome returns. AFAIK it did not even have a referral system. Obviously I steered clear and forgot about it, until I just read the above article last night. Its a bit long but really worth a read, for those interested in such ponzi schemes. IMHO, that thread should have been retained to provide more info on such schemes so people can make their own decisions.
  4. MNP Experience

Well, strangely I got a call from them (PG Cell) too. That was couple of days ago. But that was for a complaint that was over one year old!! The complaint was about me not able to reach certain STD Voda numbers from my RGSM. I had to tell him to close the complaint if he wants, as I do not call those numbers anymore, and so cannot check if the problem is solved. And that besides, I hardly use my RGSM anymore, due to various issues. He said ok and hung up.
  5. Lets Ask Arun

I am unable to open the tread "Are there websites that really pay?" It comes up in the internal Google search, but attempt to open returns the following error - [#10342] We could not determine which forum this topic is in. What gives?
  6. Don't know about that, as I go for full TT top-ups only. But if its true, they have truly no idea of the situation in the field - retailers usually refuse to recharge for such small amounts... or they ask for extra $$$ for doing it. Besides, do they think their customers have nothing better to do than to hunt for retailers?
  7. Reliance Launches "My Statement" Service For Prepaid

I'd stopped responding thinking that it was indeed going off-topic...
  8. Docomo again pissing me off again - Need to do a "special" recharge and that option in their online payment page is simply not working. The "Paynow" button seems to have been disabled. And before that, nothing was happening when the radio button for the desired option was selected. Asked them on chat and the guy said simply press the tab button after selecting the option. After selecting the tab button, the "Paynow" button magically appears. But now its disabled. No facility to charge thru SMS or USSD menu or any other way. So wasted time visiting 2 retailers (which is itself quite a hassle). One said, we have stopped Docomo recharges. Next was The Mobile Store, and he told me that Docomo recharge has been giving them problems, server not working, etc. So dead end there too. Do Tata products work sometimes?? Maybe next time we will hear that their servers started burning down like their Nanos...
  9. MNP Experience

Do you seriously believe that? Do you think they are not already aware of the problem? If they wanted to do something about it, they could have done it long ago. Solving individual complaints is not the solution... when the problem is so universal. Their network (GSM at least) is in the doldrums in most places. Don't buy all that glib talk from them, lol.
  10. Ok, maybe its cheaper for such specific uses. Its not just about poor coverage - at my residence, the signal strength has definitely gone up in the past few months. Even the battery seems to last longer. But the voice clarity still s**ks most of the time. Anyway, I guess I'm going off topic...
  11. What tariffs are you talking about? Other operators now have better plans for most usage patterns. For me, Docomo works out cheaper (and way better) than RGSM for everything except STD calls. But for new users, even this is not applicable, as the Re. 1/3min plan is no longer available.
  12. No wonder most of those highly irritating SMSes that get thru to me despite DND are from Tata Tele! But how come Tata have garnered 71% market share??
  13. Here it seems to have improved after all the fuss I made. Touches 120 kbps when its in a good mood, lol. Latency is still quite high though. Anyway, now I don't care much or even check, as I have WiFi at home. So now its useful for me only when I'm out... Meanwhile, I'v been keeping tabs on my usage as reported by Docomo and what NetSentry reports on phone. Surprisingly I find Netsentry reporting bit more than Docomo! Don't know which one is correct. Checked several times because I did not want to falsely accuse Docomo of robbing me (next to impossible, because I would have know thru other means also, if so much data was being transferred). So in short their claim of me using up over 1 GB in 10 days is absolute nonsense, for sure. Whether they did this deliberately or due to some glitch in their half-baked systems is the only thing open to speculation. Meanwhile, I would like to ask other Android users if the data reported by their apps. corresponds very closely (if not exactly) to what is reported by the telco. If yes, which app(s) is/are the most reliable?
  14. Save Battery With Black Google

Would love to use these. Really like black backgrounds, as I hate the glare from mobile/comp screens. But these substitutes do not have the other frills provided by google.com
  15. Best GSM Android Phones in India

Thanks. But I guess one would need someone in UK to buy it for him, right?
  16. Perfect solution. But I wonder if it will satisfy our rotten govt. Perhaps they will be happy only if they ban the net itself. Lets go back to the pigeons. But in this era, I'm sure they will want to licence and tag them at least. All for our own good of course. At least let us revel in the knowledge that we ware so well protected.
  17. Trai To Script Vas Norms

Pretty well put. As for the 1st category you defined, "poor illiterate Indian", I must say that the definition isn't quite right. I know quite a few pretty "literate" ones, even ones educated abroad, who fall somewhere between catageory 1 and 2. They don't understand/want to understand tariffs, don't check on things, and at the most customer service begins and ends with the 121/198/xxx numbers.
  18. Trai To Script Vas Norms

Yes, I was indeed referring to Rajan's post. Logged out before I could see that you had posted in the interim.
  19. But aren't the scenarios quite valid?? IMO it cannot be compared to India TV kinda stunts. Anyway, this is really quite elementary. But still, it reminder of how dangerous tech. can be, for those who want to use it, yet remain oblivious of its (v basic) functioning.
  20. Trai To Script Vas Norms

If you are implicitly referring to me, I have never discouraged complaining there. What I had brought to light is their lack of teeth (legal) in doing anything about it, in case the telco still does not oblige. So in short, if you get lucky its good, else. your complaint will just figure in statistics (like above). Yes, the "real" figures would definitely run into millions, but what I ment to say is that I believe the proportion would still remain more or less the same with Airtel at the top by a LARGE margin and Idea at the bottom (or so I think, because its in concord with my experience).
  21. Trai To Script Vas Norms

Figures are exactly what I'd have expected... and exactly in alignment with my own experience (except for Voda, with who I'v had no experience). Personal experiences aside, percentage of complaints would give a more accurate picture rather than just the number.
  22. Nokia X1-00 Music Phone

Now you are making me feel like going out there and killing a few pigz... Checked out the specs. of C1-02. Strange... has BT and does not even have EDGE? Anyway, no one could have been happier than me to see Nokia come to its knees. And all it took is some upstart Chinese companies, at least in the low-end market. Hope the change of guard at Nokia and other changes will bring better handsets in the market. X1-00 does indeed look good in its category. But I'm gonna pray it becomes a flop show in India (u know why).
  23. Lol, are they nuts? Users will just go elsewhere to get Opera and Getjar will loose a lot of traffic. Or so I think.
  24. Indian Passport

Thats how it should be. Why Do we Indians need middlemen and bribes in everything we do? And then we say others/politician/govt., is corrupt?
  25. Indian Passport

Sounds bit fishy - did you confirm what the security guy was saying? Or was it just to lead you to an agent? And your style of giving bribes (extra) is interesting. I paid no bribes (I don't...). And did not have to go to the station either.
