Reliance Launches "My Statement" Service For Prepaid
raccoon replied to confused_follower's topic in Miscellaneous
Well, that is ok if you plan to keep your phone in 3G mode all the time. Doing so will eat up your battery much faster. -
Phased out?? Methinks its still the cheapest way to store large amounts of data like movies, vids, etc. Unless a suitable, similarly (or cheaper) priced substitute is available, why should it be phased out?

Will MNP Help "The Big 3 Cartel"?
raccoon replied to ravi_patent's topic in Mobile Number Portability (MNP)
Awesome joke! Everybody knows that their biggest problem is network quality and customer service. They think they can ignore these primary issues by simply giving better incentives to distributors and competitive tariffs? -

Please suggest between Samsung Ace vs LG Optimus P500
raccoon replied to drali's topic in Handset Suggestions
Thanks, will check it out. How much do these flip covers cost? The case provided by LG is really pathetic. Open from both sides and too tight (could scratch or wear out the surface due to constant friction). I was considering a normal puch made of soft material but the couple of shops I asked in did not have the right size for the O1. Btw, how do you guys find the included handsfree? Just recently started to use it and find that its really bad too. Callers voices sound high pitched and un-natural. Just want to know if this is true only for my handsfree or that LG is bundling really poor quality handsfree with all the O1s. -
Hmm, ok. Product and business is of course different. Anyway, I like couple of their products... hope they don't go bust... hehe!
-
@kshah, Amway too is a scam? On what basis? Ok, I don't know about the business model, but I use some of their products and they are good! Some of course seem to be rip-offs, some are just average and overpriced but a couple are quite good and we have been using them.

One deal breaker for the O1 could be the issue of dust getting under the screen. It seems a huge number of people are facing this issue. Some unverified sources have said it seem to have been fixed in the latest batches. So forget about being dust proof like the Moto Defy, it seems O1 has issues even with dust encountered in "normal" usage. Personally, I have not yet observed this problem in my phone, but then my (1 month old) phone has been in a very low dust environment. Strange that LG did not foresee such basic issues. -
The 1st point is valid, but as for the 2nd one, I'd say that if anybody is ready to put in his hard-earned cash without doing any research or background checks, and that too in these kind of schemes, then he probably deserves to be parted with his cash. I say "probably deserves to" in the sense that, given the number of scams, frauds, fly-by-night operators, etc., in this country, one can be pretty sure that he will loose his money some other way, if not thru Rimweb. At least thats how I'd think. And really, someone should not take away someones right to be robbed/conned either. After all, that also is part of someone's freedom.

Also, CPU intensive tasks will obviously perform better on faster CPU. So if you are into stuff like gaming, CPU could matter a lot. Angry Birds (some scenarios) for eg. does not play too smoothly on O1. At least not with the ads playing. -
But these rules are in place to protect people from possible scams, right? Or is there some other reason? And if the intention is to protect them from the scams, then that objective is very well met by all the questions raised in the thread. Any intelligent person should be able to make up his own decision based on that.

I'd say most of your posts are amongst the most useful on Rimweb. I have often been amazed at your lengthy posts and have wondered how much time you might be devoting to Rimweb. On the other hand, I often don't even have time to read thru all of everyday's posts. Besides all the queries you have raised are quite legit. I someone has nothing to hide, he should not have issues in answering any legit queries. I'm sure most others here will say the same. In a nutshell - keep up the awesome work.
-
Just a li'l query I can't resist asking - what is the harm in allowing the link? If someone wants to join up even after seeing all cautionary signboards, I feel its his choice. I too really feel that if Vikas had answered the valid queries raised by our in-house CBI sleuth , it would have appeared far more credible than writing another article on SA.

That could happen only if there is leakage and the circuit can be completed thru your body. Though there's no ground pin, once ac is converted to dc 5v etc there will be a wire with zero voltage (which will actually be near zero in practice - closer to zero for good brands maybe and maybe not for cheaper brands) This somehow affects the capacitive touchscreens. As far as I have seen there are only two wires - positive and neutral.

BSNL 3G Speed is being Limited to 2 Mbps?
raccoon replied to ATHUL4R's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
BSNL sold out to the private telcos again? -
Dude, no offence, but that answer does not help. He wants to know the difference between variably priced screen protectors. Also, no point in paying 300 instead of 50 if the qualities are similar. For all you know, some shopkeepers may be conning you by selling you the same/similar thing at variable prices. Right question would be: What benefit do the more expensive ones offer? Are the cheaper ones harmful to the phone in any way? Any specific brands that are supposed to be good/better? I would really like to know these answers myself. Hope others here have some experience/knowledge about this.

Aircel Launches Next-Gen Wi-Fi Services
raccoon replied to Honest's topic in Other Broadband Discussion
source :: http://www.themobile...s-to-offer-WiFi So now in addition to other sources, we will be irradiated by EM radiation. Till now, I have resisted the temptation to get a WiFi router at home, due to this concern. And now these companies will come and do the job for free. WiFi service benifits are at a premium but at least radiation is free for all. Thank God for small mercies. -
There is one more aspect to this - even if MNP works smoothly for the majority and not for a minority, one cannot say that it does not matter. It does not help those for who it has not worked as it should when you say you are just a minority, so don't crib. In fact many companies use this tactic - for eg. Reliance and ICICI insurance are known to reject say 2 out of 10 genuine claims. Come to think of it, this way they can offer lower premiums too! Now if you ask customers of these companies, you will likely get very varied responses. Those amongst the 80% will say the companies are good, because they have got their claims successfully processed. The remaining 20% will cry foul. To rub it in, the other 80% may actually support such companies with the myopic view that their policies have worked for them and may even go to the extent of recommend these companies to others, esp. considering the lower premiums. Further, another section may say that majority have benefited, so let us give the companies the benefit of doubt (similar to what some are suggesting here). If someone has been robbed, it does not really help him to show him statistics and say you are the only one in the city who has been robbed in x years, so take solace in the statistics and enjoy. Point is again that the there is no accountability or redressal for those who are suffering. Banking and Insurance sectors at least have an Ombudsman. Why not telecom? Why is the DoT come out with this farce called PG Cell in its place?
-
True, we could use some reliable statistics, but who knows what they are describing as successful porting. Were these people harassed in some way? Was the process delayed? Were there phones disconnected beyond 2 hours? etc, etc. I guess unless we know this, its difficult to comment.
