Can they do that?? Ask the donee telco to freeze services retrospectively, citing billing arrears? I don't think so... Lol! But I guess they are right too - it isn't his (CC executive's) problem either. His employers be damned!

Government to come out with New Telecom Policy 2011: Sibal
raccoon replied to Honest's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
The money has to come from somewhere. Just because there is competition, it does not mean the money will come from thin air. Telcos here are to do business not charity. In the end it is subscribers who will pay thru their nose, this way or that. -
What happened to Mr. Sibals own assertion that the guiding principle in a welfare state is not maximization of revenue?? We already have raging inflation in food sector, percolating to other sectors, and now they want it to hit the telecom sector too. This govt. is...

Huh?! I thought you were a die hard RCDMA fan. You too defecting from Reliance? Then die RCom, die... Haven't they reduced this 2 GB limit to 1 GB recently? At least thats what is showing on their site now.

Shopkeeper told me even screen guard is not currently available. However it is available on ebay. Also a Silicone skin jelly case is available: http://cgi.ebay.in/Amzer-Black-Silicone-Skin-Jelly-Case-LG-Optimus-One-/230578834063?pt=IN_Mobile_Accessories&hash=item35af91ca8f#ht_1452wt_910 Anybody knows how good/bad/useful this is? Have never used one. Also, is Rs. 257 a good price, or is likely to be available locally for cheaper?

This is horrible. Is this what Mr. Sibal has in store for us...??

BlackBerry, Skype, Gmail and now 3G come under the scanner of Indian Government
raccoon replied to faizone's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
Seems like we are the only 2 deviants here.... at least amongst those who are vocal. Sigh... I'm wondering - what about apps like Whatsapp? I wonder if they have any encryption. I'm guessing it doesn't... -
This is the worst case scenario for any MNP applicant! For the number, this is like the hindi saying "Dhobi ka gadha, na ghar ka na ghat ka". TRAI should have forseen this and made some guidelines about this.

Interesting, but leaves me with some questions - why would a suicide bomber need to have his/her payload detonated this way??? Can't he/she do it himself/herself? Why on earth do you need remote detonation when the bomber can do it himself? Another amazing thing is that they did not anticipate this scenario. Either they were super dense or maybe I am missing something? -

That would be pretty inconvenient. Besides, many/most may be using a separate phone for work and for personal calling. Also one would need to spend more to activate SMS packs for more than one phone. -
Reliance Communications Introduces Enhanced Version of Missed Call Alerts Service
raccoon replied to Honest's topic in Reliance Communications
I dunno if its a deficiency in CDMA or RCom's implementation of it, but even I'v ALWAYS had all kinds of issues with RCDMA. Even now, even though I personally do not have a RCDMA, there are always issues when I message couple of my friends on RCDMA. Add to this the other problems like long SMSing, lost SMSes, etc, etc. Its a perfect recipe for all kinds of misunderstandings and problems. RGSM though really bad for voice calls, is quite ok for texting. No experience with other CDMA networks though, as neither I nor anyone else I know is a subscriber. -
BlackBerry, Skype, Gmail and now 3G come under the scanner of Indian Government
raccoon replied to faizone's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
Very good... I feel like buying a BB device, just to support RIM. But not happy about them conceding about Blackberry Messenger. But if what Karthik says above is true, then it is a matter of concern. Obviously things going on behind the scene, which will probably never be made public. RIM is obviously protecting its own business interests. They know customers use it because its supposed to be private. -
Nokia Launches X5 In India And Introduces Low Cost 3G Phone C2-01 And Nokia X2-01
raccoon replied to Honest's topic in Other handsets
Why not? Just because Moto is doing it, does not mean its right if others do it too. I'v not compared Motos, but at least the newer offerings from Nokia (haven't compared older ones) have much higher SAR ratings than LGs and Samsungs, at least. -
Nokia Launches X5 In India And Introduces Low Cost 3G Phone C2-01 And Nokia X2-01
raccoon replied to Honest's topic in Other handsets
What is intriguing is the SAR rating of most Nokia phones. It is around double or more of LG and Samsung handsets at least! And its not like LG or Samsung are inferior in anyway with respect to signal receptivity. In fact my P500 seems above average in this respect, despite the significantly low SAR rating. Whats wrong with Nokia?? -
It seems the blame for these network locked handsets should be placed on the operator and not directly on Samsung, as the customers are not direct Samsung customers. But if Samsung is doing this to direct customers, then it is of course something you can hold against them. I'd not believe that unless it comes from a more reliable source than Univercell. Online, I have seen only comments from frustrated Samsung owners.

Will MNP Help "The Big 3 Cartel"?
raccoon replied to ravi_patent's topic in Mobile Number Portability (MNP)
I beg to differ somewhat. I of course concede that experiences differ from area to area. Call centers of all the operators are more or less equally pathetic. But there are ways to escalate. My comments are based on that. In that I have found lot of differences. For eg. Idea actually seems to appointed Nodal and Appellate Officers. Make a call and you will find that you aren't talking to call center guys. And I don't recall going away without a solution (eventually). Airtel and RCom on the other hand don't even have them! I guess they have simply put up emails and phone numbers of their offers on their sites just to show that they are complying with regulation. Docomo also seems to be the same, but in their case the calls and emails are answered, but one can tell that the quality of guys sitting there are either the same or are only slightly better than the average call center guy. Again this is my experience. In other circles it may be different. Further, at least for me, I am not much interested in how polite they speak. I'd rather get the job done asap rather than hear "yes sir, extremely sorry sir, it won't happen again sir", etc., etc., because we all know it is all like speaking to a tape recorder and your frustration/anger is never going to go beyond the poor, dull call center guy who is paid mainly to absorb all the muck that irate customers want to actually throw at the management. -
Will MNP Help "The Big 3 Cartel"?
raccoon replied to ravi_patent's topic in Mobile Number Portability (MNP)
So this is the effect of poaching AirHELL guys (at least they can be said to be a significant factor).. Good. Serves ADA right. As far as RCom goes, this was expected. But I'm sad to hear about AirHELL's gains. The biggest swindler of them all has actually made gains (at least till now). -
Yes, seems Samsung customers are an angry lot, due to this tardiness.
-
I get this message when I call couple of my friends in Bombay. But its not playing on my Maharashtra RGSM; which is as it should be since RCom do not have Mah. 3G licence. But funny thing is both of them told me that they have not subscribed to 3G. It seems RCom is playing this tune for all Bombay subscribers... and perhaps in all circles where they have 3G. Plain and open lying by RCom, lol.
-
Oh ya... forgot about that. But has Samsung confirmed that there will be no update??
-
2 GB per month for how long? Could differ in different areas, but have heard that Aircel EDGE speeds can be pretty low here. Price is high, considering that one can buy Galaxy 5 for around the same price.

Finally rooted and got most of the LG garbage out. Also manually cleared the Dalvik cache using Linux commands (terminal emulator). Noticed that several files there were apparently orphans of programs I had uninstalled. Titanium Backup seems to do it more efficiently, as it seems to offer to junk only those files but refuses to actually do it unless you go pro. After manually deleting all, it correctly reports that there are no files eligible for junking. Phone seems to have become a bit snappier, but difficult to tell for sure. Angry Birds is still very sluggish in some scenarios, if ads are kept on. Isn't there anyway to kill the ads without toggling EDGE? Seems 01 proccy is just not up for playing AB, with the ads up. Also, since many programs like Utube, Facebook, G Maps, (all outdated) etc., aps come pre-installed, but you have to update them anyway (which I guess eats up double space), wouldn't it be a good idea to uninstall all that stuff along with other LG crapware, and reinstall the latest versions? Question is would it be safe to do so? I'm not sure... Will fact. reset now and reinstall ROM and do the above things all over again. Thanks to Dkaile, for all useful pointers.

I was lucky to get it for lesser... but currently, the lowest price (IIRC about 11,750) I have seen is on eBay (if you ok about buying online). Also, I guess it would depend on on which city you are in. Mah. VAT is quite high.

There is a known issue with Intel GMA 500 Driver as mentioned here http://www.rovio.com...nt01returnid=58 Anyway found one possible solution for you. Download the following file , Replace the AngryBirds.exe file in your angry birds folder with this one. Make your graphics resolution normal 1024x768 and now try running... Hey thanks a heap mate... will try all that as soon as I get some time. Hope it works... not very fond of playing games on mobiles. The min. specs are quite surprising though; considering its supposed to be a mobile game! Strange... I get a different error message.
