Some facts about Reliance2Reliance On-Net Plan of Rs. 77 in Delhi
raccoon replied to webmaster1105's topic in Miscellaneous
Seems you are not aware - RCom does not need to learn it form Airtel! They seem to have poached the same AirHELL guys who come up such devious ideas. So is it even surprising? AirTEL is the birthplace of all such devious ideas along with outright cheating, unauthorized service activations, etc., etc. It is unfortunate that RCom have dumped their Simple plans and are now just copying AirHELL in all the wrong ways. In this respect, I really appreciate Idea. They have resisted the corrupting influence of AirHELL. They define 1st call as 1st 60 seconds of the day only. -
Mobile Number Portability service from November 25
raccoon replied to Arun's topic in Mobile Number Portability (MNP)
If TRAI has mandated that operators cannot charge more than Rs. 19 and if operators are charging for SMS to 1900, then it clearly means they are violating rules. Anyway, I guess we can cry foul only after it is officially implemented. -
TATA Docomo Launch 3G Services on Diwali
raccoon replied to rahulmalik_81's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
I wouldn't be too sure of that. Cell sizes in bigger cities have to be kept pretty small..Small to the point that 900 MHz or 1800 Mhz does not matter that much. It matters more in rural areas. -
11 / 12 k ?? It isn't worth anywhere even close to that. Anyway, those must be market pieces. For that much, your could by Galaxy 3 or Moto Quench with better specs. Besides, Huawei being a Chinese co., one expects lower price. Not worth buying unless its available at the expected price of around 5 k.

Bharat Berry Services Launched Officially
raccoon replied to cdma evdo's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
Robustness and usability may be top notch or otherwise, but security (for the subscriber) goes right out of the window. About that there can be no 2nd opinion. And surely that is not trivial for most subscribers... or is it? ... I'm not sure anymore, as most here seem to be dead against their own and other's privacy. -
Bharat Berry Services Launched Officially

Amazing, they are trying to market a less secure service as a better option than a far more secure service (at least currently)!! Only the daftest subscriber will want to subscribe to something like this... -
Updated: Pesky SMSs/Calls: Major relief to users from March 21, 2011
raccoon replied to Arun's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
Why should they?? I'd say here it is the customers who are themselves squarely to blame. If customers are duffers, you cannot not expect them not be taken for a nice ride, esp. when it is quite profitable to do so. DND works for me. The only grudge I have against it is that they stop useful tariff related offers too, along with the promo messages. -
BlackBerry, Skype, Gmail and now 3G come under the scanner of Indian Government
raccoon replied to faizone's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
Indian govt. anyway takes its voters for granted. So its only fitting that at least someone else is taking it for granted, if that is the case. -

Dot Rings Mobile Number Portability

Huh?! It would be difficult for callers to know the operator of the called phone, but why would operators withdraw the packs (if that is what you mean)? -

BSNL Slashes Its 3G Internet Further
raccoon replied to in.raghav's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
Lol, well the very low upload speed will make the connection not useful for a lot of things. I sometimes have to transfer larger files besides of course p2p stuff. So for me this type of connection will just not do. As for BSNL wired BB, the upload speed is not that bad. I get around 40 kBps on my 64 kBps connection. Now, of course this isn't good either, as the ideal ul/dl ratio should of course be 1:1. But at least its usable. Seedbox... hmm... interesting... -

South Korea Leads In 3Rd Annual Broadband Study
raccoon replied to kesav's topic in Other Broadband Discussion
Thanks, will check it out. But good feedback? I recall reading lots of adverse reviews on Tikona. Anyway, will consider it only if its cheaper than BSNL because as of now BSNL is working ok. Whats more I get waiver on rental because of BB. And do they actually reply?? In the past, I'v never received a reply from TRAI at least. -

South Korea Leads In 3Rd Annual Broadband Study
raccoon replied to kesav's topic in Other Broadband Discussion
So they are actually admitting that competition hasn't really taken off and requirement neither. Really, competition hasn't taken off at all. Few months back I applied for connections from both RCom and Airtel (after getting fed up of issues with BSNL line and its higher tariffs) and both declined saying that its not feasible. So I am stuck with BSNL. Yes, Hathway does serve my area, but my experience with them has been GHASTLY to say the least. And this in an IT city like Poona. So forget about decent speeds without FUPs, I don't even have a choice to go to any other operator. If I want to change my mobile operator, I have 10 more more options, but no options at all for broadband!! And this is true for the vast majority of net subscribers. Really sad state of affairs. -
Ok, assuming there were no vested interests in the making of that report, can we be sure that the samples on which the study is based are valid here? I mean they could be from different plants, made for different markets, etc., etc. I'm NOT saying that the study looks unreliable or otherwise! What I suggested is that either way, we can't be terribly sure
-
Saw that report few days ago, but one cannot be too sure about how reliable it is...

raccoon replied to Arun's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
Hehe, well, I know someone who used to keep his phone switched off most of the time because of that fear. His rationale being that the operator would not be able to deduct money if the phone was switched off. He recharges with very small amounts due to this fear. -
Quite the same here. Docomo 2G network definitely needs work. Facing ocasional issues with voice calls also. If their 3G is patchy, then their early offering will be worse than no offering and they will be known as a substandard network.
