  1. Shame on India. Shame, shame, shame! But we love waiting for everything, so we can also enjoy the World Wide Wait (www).
  2. This govt. is bent on obliterating privacy on all fronts. Guidelines for storing messages for 6 months, but what about guidelines that protect them from the wrong eyes (not like I'm saying thats really possible)? Even right now, I'v been told that text messages can be accessed without much restrictions by employees... but at least maybe thats for 2 days. Now, it will be accessible for 6 months!
  3. Thanks! So you have to recharge your mobile there to get a voucher, right? But as you say they are not giving ebay vouchers anymore, not much use now.

Thanks Rajan, I just bought EX128 for 6K from Secunderabad market (with bill of course). Its really looks like exactly what is shown on the motorola web site. Will post a review after a month of usage. Thanks to all the guys who helped Congo! Do post a review sooner, if possible. There are hardly any worthy dual SIM phones and even fewer with reviews.
  5. Inactive or unused SIMs would not pose any load on the network. Not a valid solution for network issues.
  6. Mercifully, I don't. Yes, on Idea once in several days/weeks a stray SMS does come in, but I promptly lodge a complaint with Idea for it, and they inform me about the action taken after few weeks. With RGSM, I recally getting only 1 SMS after registering with DND (more than 6 months ago). With Docomo, I haven't bothered to register with DND as they send just about 1 promo SMS a day and calls are even lesser. The issue with DND is that they (all operators, AFAIK) even stop sending useful offers. So in Docomo's case, I haven't registered.
  7. Other things aside, I'm really surprised to know that only 11% users have registered with the DNC Registry. How do the remaining 89% survive without it? Or is it that Indians just love being harassed? I used to get 20 - 30 calls+SMS everyday on RGSM and Idea (each), before registering for DND. If you have two connections, just imagine how much time you would waste and the irritation caused.
  8. Seems like people are getting mixed up. Even if there are fake activations, esp. of the type described above by Karthik, its the telco's loss. It is they who should do something about these things, not the government. Government comes in the picture if those connections are used for illegal purposes. And IMHO that could be addressed by address verification.
  9. If this is indeed the case, and if telcos are not maintaining documents as they should, be made to do this by the govt. What is the need to harass genuine subscribers and increase costs? What is so wrong about changing numbers? In fact thats what keeps the competition alive. People who stick to their numbers till they are dragged to their graves don't contribute much to it. As for other nuisances like blank calls, there are other options - you can lodge a police complaint or use a phone that has a blacklisting function. Telcos an also offer this as a network feature, hopefully for free (I believe Voda does this, but its not free. But why should one pay for not being harassed?). Instead, why not have address verification for pre-paid, similar to what is being done for post-paid? This will lead to some increased expense for the telcos, but IMO it will be much better than the proposed changes.

You could be right when you say not everyone can wait for reviews. In fact if everyone does, then there will be no early buyers to write any reviews for people like me. But still, I would not put too much emphasis on just the brand name (am not saying that it doesn't matter either). Thats because all brands seem to have some/many good products and some/many bad or not so good products. Heck, even some of these Chinese handsets are better in many ways than some handsets from the biggies. Just a few days ago, a friend of mine who has 2 Nokia phones which were used with 2 different numbers got so fed up with both his Nokias (one is esp. pathetic with voice calls, the other has other problems) that he ordered a Micromax Q1 online (he didn't want to invest more as hes going abroad, and anyways he likes simple handsets). And believe it or not, he now sounds clearer on the Micromax than on either of his Nokias! And in fact, I myself suggested either of the above Motos to him, as they are or much better "lineage". Despite this, I myself would be apprehensive of buying such Chinese re-branded stuff. But it seems to work well for many people.

Have you actually used these phones?? I'm asking because Moto's software in their earlier phones has never been something to rave about. Also, battery/talk time/stand by time specs. of these phones is a matter of concern. I'd not touch them unless I see a lot of user reviews.
  12. Had exactly the same experience with Recron pillows just last week! Was it on the same site? Guess you just have to act fast.
  13. I used the 1st voucher. in.raghav9, thanks a ton! Whats the criterion for getting these gift vouchers, if any? I never got any. If anybody has any more vouchers which they won't be using, please do post.
  14. Thanks for creating this very useful thread. The link to the Kodak camera above is showing the price as Rs. 2,990. You have mentioned 2,490. Is it a mistake or have they hiked it already?
  15. Roaming Charges May Go Soon!

Nightmare! Don't fantasize about such morbid things. I'm happy with my 30 p/min tariff.
  16. Awesome news! Good for people who are STILL waiting, waiting waiting. Hone your waiting skills even more...
  17. Roaming Charges May Go Soon!

How on earth can you "transfer" spectrum like that?? Unfortunately, you can't pack it in a bag and take it to Delhi. Thats what I'm scared of. If that is what will happen, then it will mean higher expenses for subscribers like me.
  18. The Commonwealth Games Mess

Good article. If only it would be acted upon. Public memory is indeed short lived and very easily distracted....
  19. The Commonwealth Games Mess

Aha... so after looking at the glamorous pics above, everyone (as expected) has started to forget the massive corruption associated with the event?
  20. Laptop Buying Advice

    Looking forward to your review.
  21. Roaming Charges May Go Soon!

If this move results in any increase in local calls, then it will be very bad for users like me who make 90% local calls and don't roam much.
  22. Shameless RCom - 1st get your 2G act in place!
  23. What is wrong with waiting??? Everything is wrong with waiting. It is wrong even in principle. The incumbents know very well you are waiting, and they seem to have used it very well against you. Waiting has also prevented the sector to stave off real competition. And last but not the least, it has prevented you from reaping benefits in the current scenario. In fact even you have been benefited by those who do not wait. Just imagine the scenario when everybody thinks like you and refuses to change operators - none of the newcomers would have survived till today and the incumbents would not have to reduce tariffs and offer better service even to the extent that they have done till date. I stopped waiting long ago and am very happy that I did.
  24. Quite a different tone compared to that of AirHELL, eh? Airtel is a bag of hot air - rubbish talk, rubbish network & rubbish ethics. Of course its not rubbish in the sense that they will price it at astronomical levels, if they can have their way.
