  1. Yes, they seem to have gone very wrong on a lot of counts. Hope you saw the video on N97.
  2. Your Latest Hardware Purchase

+1!! A review would be really welcome. Optimus certainly beats Galaxy 5 in the looks dept. and a 3 MP AF camera, but not only does it come with the obsolete 1.6, it is upgradeable only till 2.1 (LG isn't even talking about 2.2, so assuming it will never get 2.2). That seems to be its biggest negative point.
  3. @vvinayakpai, That is expected. I don't believe they will divulge such info. In fact I have noticed some of these companies trying to slyly market their wares as Indian products; and there are many gullible customers that believe that and even buy them thinking they are supporting "desi" products.
  4. Quite right. In fact I have found some of these re-branded phones to be BETTER (with more features at lower price) than equivalent models from the biggies. Have seen some which were about 3 years and going strong. But the problem is getting to know which brand/model is good. However, the concern that plagues all such re-branded handsets is the radiation levels. None of the brands seem to be testing/specifying this, and it is a matter of great concern.
  5. An interesting article on whats going wrong at Nokia.
  6. One of my friends has bought a new Uninor (Mah & Goa) number. Both of us are in Poona. Today I discovered that Docomo is charging me STD tariff for all calls to this local Uninor number! My local tariff is 1p/2s and STD is 5p/6s. They are coolly charging the latter tariffs for the Uninor number. What is good is that they have usage details of last few calls on their website, and my observations were confirmed thru the call records also. Don't know if they are doing this to other Uninor numbers too, so beware guys! And people say Tata is known for honesty and all that shebang! This is not done, Docomo. Well, to be fair, it may not be deliberate but its very difficult to imagine such lapses in today's systems. Needless to say I have raised a complaint. Lets see how they respond.
  7. They fixed the issue few days back. Getting billed correctly now. Took them a month to fix it and that after several reminders and a complaint to DOT.
  8. Real issues like that are always FAR more difficult to deal with than the false/much less important issues which they try to project that they are solving. In fact, it is exactly why they need false issues - so that they can distract you from real issues.
  9. RCom cannot escape responsibility for this even if what you are saying is true. It is entirely upto them to have systems in place that cannot defraud their customers in this manner. IMO, Ideally, such activations should only be possible thru customer's handset.
  10. Its going to be quite sometime till India and Indians become aware of such things and start giving them any importance. Something similar to the privacy issues discussed earlier...
  11. Billing after termination and forced to pay

Not surprising. Reliance and ICICI insurance have the worst reputation in the insurance sector. ICICI has the worst reputation in the banking sector too.
  12. Billing after termination and forced to pay

Well, not necessarily. I had mentioned somewhere before - a friend of mine got refund from Idea (deposit plus other charges, totaling around Rs. 1,500). without even asking (through courier). In fact that was after 1 month, and he had even forgotten that Idea owed him anything. Well, I'm not sure if everyone has had similar experiences with Idea... but nothing is impossible. Thats just an eg. But then here we are talking about the new AirHELL infested RCom. I bet its not going to be half as easy for the Dr.
  13. Thats right, but the news after that was that Uninor has decided to stay. The Norwegian govt. also wants that. Its nice to know Uninor is doing well (at least in subscriber addition). Uninor has amazing voice clarity here despite being the newest operator. BSNL despite being the oldest is... well, you know. What is more amazing is how they are able to retain a single subscriber on their pathetic network. I guess Indians are so tolerant, they can put up with anything. If it was otherwise, their mobile service should have shut ages ago (at least in Poona/Mah).
  14. Billing after termination and forced to pay

Well, you made a huge mistake by paying them in the first place. And your hope of trying to get a refund after paying will now just bring more harassment to yourself. Now your only hope is to write to the addresses given by Arun and seek redressal from a Consumer Forum, if it does not work.
  15. Gosh, that was sarcasm!! I'm not dreaming that RIM is fighting for the privacy of the common man in the least!! But the intentions notwithstanding - the net result is still favorable; ie. to keep prying govt. eyes out of private/corporate lives!! Btw, as for BES services, I have noticed many friends/colleges/acquaintances using this for personal communication as of now. So I would hesitate to say it is limited to corporate use only.
  16. We have already argued on the privacy issues in previous posts, so won't rehash all that again. But one observation is worth mentioning - BBs are no longer used just by corporates like before. I now seem to find them with every other person, including college guys. It seems you don't observe such changes. I willing to bet a million that you will find hundreds of BBs on suburban trains and buses, as you have mentioned. Lastly, you seriously think The Ambanis and Birlas and all will be caught in their acts by intercepting such communication?? Lol! Even if they are, you are talking about top of the line influential people, dude!! And I'm sure you know what that means...
  17. Good to know BB is not compromising the privacy of its users. Hope it does not budge... but I wonder where it will lead ultimately. Just because they have compromised users in other countries does not mean they should do it here. Look at it positively - maybe they are more concerned about privacy their Indian customers.
  18. Motorola Debuts First Dual SIM Phones In India

+1 to that! And if manufacturers think 2 SIMs are used by budget conscious people only, they are very wrong. Most people I know these days seem to be using at least 2 SIMs. One is usually a work/business phone or given by company and other is personal.
  19. Motorola Debuts First Dual SIM Phones In India

Claimed talk time for EX 115 is just 200 minutes (3.3 hours)!! Is this good? And this will most likely be in ideal conditions, so expect significantly lower talk/standby time depending on network and while on the move. Also, battery performance declines with time, so you will get still lesser with time. Anyway, lets see how they perform on the field.
  20. Motorola Debuts First Dual SIM Phones In India

EDGE at class 10 and 65 k colour screen. Quite a deal breaker. I'd expect better from Motorola.
  21. AirTel's 3G Roadpath

Hmm... I don't think they can increase tariff beyond a point, if at all. The higher the tariff, the lower will be the subscriber base. Personally, I don't care much what fees they have paid or what tariff they gonna charge. If its low enough I may subscribe, else I can always live with EDGE. In fact if even EDGE isn't cheap enough, I can live with a net connection on my comp. In fact life will be more peaceful.
  22. Reliance GSM Network in Pune/Vishranthwadi

Wow, so they do actually improve, is it? Here it seems they are simply incapable of that. Well, if as for my raves and rants and their trying to harass me, its a bit late for that now, as I changed to Docomo couple of months back. Have just kept the RGSM for SMS and for longer STD calls (Re.1/3 min is cheapest STD option, AFAIK). But almost every time I seem to end up pissing off the called party and myself, due to the horrible voice clarity.... so as of now its barely used (except for SMS). But just keeping the thing in standby and for few SMSs is eating up the handset's battery big time, so maying I should just get rid of it... though I'v been reluctant to do it since it has lifetime tariff validity. I'm not even ranting or raving anymore... more like watching its antics in amusement. I'm considering replacing RGSM with Uninor as despite it being the newest network here, the voice clarity is just amazing. Ah, so they seem to be giving a raw deal in Maharashtra. Seems like a very good case for Raj Thackery to take up. I guess only he can do something now, as RGSM's management seems to be very anti-Maharashtra. And its not just wrt. voice clarity - I have found both in-city and out of city coverage to be the worst amongst all operators (except perhaps Airtel).
  23. Notice put up on fullonsms.com - Note the words "may resume". This is really atrocious! This Govt. is just nuts! Next they will ban individual texing and even voice calls. Just awesome!
  24. For this govt., bans are the solution to everything. Ban SMS, ban Blackberry, ban privacy, ban everything & no problems. Bank SMS for eg. are a safety measure, to enable fraudulent access/transactions quickly. Will the govt. compensate those who many incur loss this way?
  25. "MNP delayed further" - does that even qualify to be news anymore??? Anyway, look at it positively - it will help masochists to continue suffering (read enjoying) at the hands of their old service providers. Why just Reliance? I'd think all the incumbents will be happy.
