  1. Huh?! I don't have anything particular against RCom... except their pathetic GSM network. I have always stated things as they are - good and bad, both. I'm surprised at your comment....
  2. Reliance GSM Network in Pune/Vishranthwadi

Do you experience call drops because the signal frequently goes to zero/1 bar or do you experience it even when signal strength is ok?
  3. The biggies like Nokia seem to be lagging big time and are totally out of sync with the market, at least when it comes to the low end and to an extent the mid range segment also. Smaller brands which cost less than half have way more features (both software and hardware) in their handsets along with better battery life, etc., etc.
  4. @Hitesh, Well, I believe those who are ment to be in touch, will remain, with or without number change. Those that aren't, wont. Others may of course think different. Changing number is a hassle, but not half as much as what most people make out to be. All is takes is an SMS to multiple recipients (your contacts). Yes some people may get a li'l pissed, but that can't be helped. Nor is it unreasonable, as long as you don't do it often. Of course, people who are using the number as a business phone, professionals who are dependent of phone for work and have their number circulated, may not find it feasible. For them call diverting could be the best option.
  5. From where are they (RCom) getting so many subscribers despite RGSM being so bad in so many cities? I don't think people going in for CDMA would count for much.
  6. Reliance GSM Network in Pune/Vishranthwadi

After having had enough of RGSM, I got a Docomo SIM less than a week ago. Pleasantly surprised to find that I get close to full signal intensity at my residence, unlike RGSM which now goes down to zero bars in some places. Voice clarity is also nearly as good as Idea or RCDMA! Even the battery on the same phone lasts MUCH longer with Docomo, than with RGSM. Furthermore, the tariff is also good @1p/2sec (local), but with STV against my Re 1/3min with RGSM. However since pulse is 2 secs with Tata, the saving easily makes up for the STV cost. However, it seems the SMS plan is not at all comparable. Also, STD will cost a lot more with Docomo. So maybe I'll retain the RGSM SIM for now, but with minimal usage. Before I got the Docomo SIM, I once again wrote to their corporate center, and I must say the response, in short, was again prompt and professional, including the email reply. They again sent someone to my place to check out the coverage and voice clarity problems. Unfortunately the guy didn't seem very qualified and wasn't able to answer any serious questions. He said coverage issues have cropped up in my area due to new higher building coming up and trees. However, other operators like Idea (best, most of the time signal is max), Vodafone, Docomo, Airtel (worst in all ways, but at least usable) all work at my place. Don't know about other operators. So only RGSM has issues with buildings and trees? Again, problem with RGSM is indoor coverage. Once outside, it usually shows max signal strength. Furthermore, he said the BTS is less than 300 meters from my place!! So, despite their interest and visits to my place, nothing has changed in so many months. I'm thru with complaining, and I don't see anything changing anytime soon. In fact the guy who called from their Corporate Center at DAKC himself admitted that the network in Pune is quite bad, but declined from making any comment about any timeline for improvement (which I quite appreciate). If Docomo can be so much better despite the network being younger than RGSM, and both being on similar frequency bands (1,800 MHz), things seem to be seriously wrong with RCom. Hope that helps others here who might be waiting, waiting, waiting, for things to improve...
  7. No way! Thats exactly what the forces delaying number portability want. And thats exactly at least I will never let them have the satisfaction of. To heck with MNP. I will jump on the best offer and service NOW. For me thats the formula for being happy.
  8. Printer Choosing Help Required

^^^I wouldn't buy what they say. Have an HP all-in-one which is seldom used... sometimes not even once a month. Not faced any such issue.
  9. ^^^I just called Docomo customer care and was told that all the 1p/2 secs packs can run concurrently along with the Sab Se Bol pack! Not sure if I can trust them though. Docomo customer service seems extremely poor and the guys can barely even understand questions.
  10. Thanks for the info. But it says all previous benefits will lapse! What does that mean? Also, I have the weekly Rs. 10 pack activated which gives 1p/2sec local calls. Does anybody know if this be used along with the Sab Se Bol pack? Voice clarity on Docomo does seem quite good at my residence. A huge relief from RGSM!
  11. Videocon - Flexi Dual Mode (Gsm+Gsm/cdma)

Anybody has any idea when they (Videocon) start services in Maharashtra circle?
  12. Need advice in buying low end GSM handset as a secondary phone. Checked out reviews but either they do not measure up or details of functions I require are missing. Most important features: Voice clarity (on main phone speaker, on speakerphone and on wired handsfree) Signal reception Keyboard should be good for rapid SMSing Should allow timed SMS; ie., allow SMS to be sent at a future time & date. For eg. Nokia 1112 has this feature. Interface/software should be intelligently/intuitively designed so as to require minimum number of keystrokes for a given task. Durable and sturdy Important features (bit less imp. than above) Flashlight (torch) Long talk and standby times Should look decent (at least!) and preferably slim and light Not mandatory, but would be nice to have: GPRS/WAP Not required: FM radio I was considering the Nokia 1203. Though I am no Nokia fan, and their quality seems sub-par of late, it sees to meet most requirements (can users please confirm?) and reviews say its good for fast texting. But I also read that it has only one speaker at the back of the phone; and no speaker where there should be one! This means that others around can perhaps hear even better than the user of the phone!! Is Nokia completely bonkers?? Can any users confirm if its really that bad? If it is, then it is not an option as it would be a privacy hazard. Further, it seems Nokia is not even bundling the usual wired handsfree in the box. But I guess it will be available separately? Would really appreciate some valuable, informed advice.
  13. Customer Care Not Connecting

Try emailing them - ap@trai.gov.in They don't work on individual complaints, but you could mention that everyone is facing the problem there (if true), and there is zero customer support, etc., etc. May not be of much use. You may not even get a reply.
  14. Yes, it should. What "reality" do you seek guidance about?
  15. Best Low End Gsm Phone

Review and pic of RAY C25 here. Loads of features, for a phone that costs just Rs. 1,099/- Worth considering.
  16. Customer Care Not Connecting

They Never Reply to the E-mail neither they Called back.. People at Reliance are a Bunch of Goons. Customer Care is Never Connected... When IVR makes us to wait to Connect to the Customer Exec. 17. Must be a misprint - Fraud Prevention Unit in AIRTEL??? It must be Fraud Perpetration Unit! Must be a pretty original guy. Bharti always comes up the most original fraudulent/crafty/anti-consumer practices...
  18. Help Me Decide My New Mobile Operator

I'm from Poona, so can't comment about the network in Gurgaon. However, despite the RGSM network here being quite poor, my experience with GPRS was good. In fact, even in the same place at my residence, where I get horrible voice clarity and fluctuating signal, the GPRS seems to work ok. And yes, RGSM easily drains the battery at double (or higher) rates than any other connection I'v tried. If thats true there, be ready to replace your battery sooner.
  19. Reliance Gsm Network In Vadodara

Hi thanks for your reply !!! It seems no one was interested in my post! Like I said I really am in love with RCDMA but I am a Blackberry User and its disheartening to know that the GSM camp gets the best of all new feature loaded phones while I have to pay 50% more for a CDMA Blackberry which dosen't even provide for a WIFI !!!! I was really hoping that the RCDMA qualities get rubbed off on RGSM so that I can still enjoy the value benefits of being with Reliance than anyother operator. But I really am losing my paitience with RGSM. I mean its been more than a year I have the RGSM connection and I am paying Rs. 99 + Tax every month to keep the number and connection alive !!!!! I wish some of the senior memebers could put some spotlight on the work getting done on RGSM's network and what RCOM intends to do with it i.e. put the network qulaity in parity with Vodafone and other GSM players. If you ask me, get out of the habit of waiting for things to happen. What you are waiting for is not likely to happen very soon. But if you really want to do it, converting to pre-paid with lifetime validity as mentioned by rkburra would be much cheaper. I'm done with waiting for RGSM to improve and have just got a Docomo card. Will post experiences when I get some time.
  20. Please help with Reliance GSM GPRS Setting

The instructions are now mentioned lucidly on RCom's website. In the above link, you don't even need to enter your MDN in the User Name and Pw fields, for rcomnet APN.
  21. Depends on what you compare it with. Sure, if you use it only for chatting, you can talk 24/7 and still not use a fraction of that 6 GB limit. I recently used GPRS (not even EDGE) on my RGSM when my wired BB was down, and I used up 50 MB (which is the limit for the daily plan in RGSM) in just a few hours of being online. And that involved just involved general browsing, tech forums, chat, and email. I was surprised how quickly the 50 MB got used up.... had never checked before since I use an unlimited wire line plan. It seems web pages are continually becoming heavier as the years pass. So it depends on your usage. For me, I don't think 6 GB/month on an EDGE connection will be anywhere near enough.
  22. Why do you think everyone will use it ONLY on a cell phone? For those who access thru PC/lappy, 6 GB/month can be peanuts.
  23. Today, well after a week since they pilfered my account, they reversed all the charges. Hope they fix all their activation issues.
  24. Does anybody know if you can use Giftmate to recharge Special Tariff Vouchers (STVs) or validity recharges, etc? Usually shopkeepers are very reluctant to oblige for charging these smaller denominations, so it would be very worthwhile if it is possible to do it online.
