I had mentioned this in some other thread before - they sent somebody to my residence a few weeks back. However, I'd rate him just about average. He did not come with any equipment either. He just checked the signal strength on my RGSM handset in couple different rooms... and made a couple of calls to his office, from my handset. Thats about it. I got to know from him that the RGSM tower is just couple of stone throws from my residence. Despite that the signal strength is so poor when inside buildings. And just like what was told to you, he said it will take min. 1 year to see any tangible improvement in the network. He however promised that they will try to "optimize" the network and I should see at least some improvement in a weeks time. Well, weeks have passed, and there is zero improvement in signal strength which sometimes becomes ZERO in some parts of my residence. However, where there is signal (esp. near windows), the voice clarity seems to have become a bit better.

Ya I saw this Nokia phone for Rs 1100 but I find Nokia very sub standard now. I also saw Intex & Micromax Dual Sim (GSM+GSM) basic phones in the price range of 1500-1600 rs but i am really not sure about their speaker quality. I once had a Spice d88 but it was really troublesome to talk on it as its mic could not pick audio properly & its speaker did not had a clear sound. I am very particular about sound. Even I'm apprehensive of buying from the likes of Intex, Spice, etc., but considering the quality (and design)of Nokia these days, I'd prefer to put my money the other brands. Sound/voice clarity is the most imp. aspect of a phone. And in a basic phone, its obviously almost the only thing that matters (besides battery life, software/interface, of course). Could you please tell me if these Samsung Guru series phones have the "Send Later" function for text messages? Nokia phones like 1112, 1203, etc., have this function. Also are the Guru phones efficient for texting like the Nokias mentioned above (wrt. keypad, software, etc)? And whats the issue with the t9 implementation, that you have mentioned?
-
Hey has mentioned "very basic", so obviously around 1k. Anyway, beware of Nokia 1203 and similar handsets from Nokia. They have a single speaker and duct/outlet on the back side, so all your private conversations will always become public! Battery life is also very poor.

Interesting thread... I'm currently suffering BSNL's 256 kbps unlimited connection @ Rs. 750 / month + tax. And currently issues with it like lower speeds, due to bad line conditions (currentlyg getting attenuation of about 48 and SNR of about 10); and really fed up with BSNL and its awesome customer service. My question is, do I have any alternatives in the wireless segment? Like if I take Aircel's unlimited GPRS/EDGE connection for RS. 98 per month, what kind of speeds can I expect? I know the bandwidth will be less than my current rated wireline BB, but how much could I expect? I would of course be inclined towards BSNL's 3G, but the tariffs for unlimited connections seem prohibitive. Also, are EDGE and 3G connections usable for P2P downloads (Torrents, eDonkey, etc)? Upload bandwidth would be v important for these uses. What kind up upload speeds can one expect on these connections? Also, I would need to buy the heardware for it - either USB modem or EDGE/3G handset. Now, supposing I get a handset, would it be ok keep it connected like 6 - 12 hours at a stretch? Or is it likely to have overheating or other issues? I presume that if its a USB connection, then the handset would remain fully charged, so battery discharging won't be an issue. Would really appreciate some inputs from people with more experience on this.... esp. those from Poona.

Uninor Offers Unlimited Calling Plans for Uninor to Uninor
raccoon replied to faizone's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
Unlimited calls for Rs. 197 is way cool... if the network is good. Does it have a FUP like RCom? Anybody has any idea when they will start services in Maharashtra? -
Thanks for the detailed clarifications...
-
Is the camera quality really so average? What would you be comparing it to? Also, in what way is the touchscreen average?
-
Could really use some help/clarification - Trying to use GPRS on RGSM for the 1st time. When I use the RCOMWAP APN - [Other settings - Proxy1 - 010.239.221.005 Port1 - 8080 Service type1 - WAP Speed 14400 Bps Line type1 - Modem] Opera Mini (version 4.1.11 355) does not work. The native browser works... which I do not want to use. Charges me the default rate which is 50p/1 MB When I use the RCOMNET APN - (I understand this does not need any other settings... is that right?) Opera Mini works. But the in the minute or two that I used it for, Rs. 2 got deducted from my balance. My Questions - 1) What are the current tariffs if RCOMNET APN is used? I am unable to find it on RCom's site. 2) Is there any way I can use Opera Mini with RCOMWAP APN and avail of 50p/1 MB tariff? Further, I tried to change the connection type to Socket (from HTTP) from within Opera Mini; but it goes right back to HTTP every time.
-
Thats exactly what was deducted from my balance - Rs. 2/- But others here are saying 60/30 p/min (night/day).... so I was really wondering... But this Rs. 2 is for how much data or how much time? Or is it per session, irrespective of duration/data (unlikely?)?
-
Btw, you have mentioned tariff as 60p/min during day. From RCom's site it seems its 30p/min at night. But whats what hrs are considered as day? Its not clear on RCom's site. Though they have mentioned - Peak Hours - 6 AM to 10 PM Off Peak hours - 10 PM to 6 AM Are these the day and night hrs?
-
Yes, I'd seen the settings given in Arun's sticky. However it is mentioned elsewhere that RCOMNET does not need any other settings. And it seems to be true. I'v not even given the username and pw (which should be the MDN) and it still seems to work. Also the sticky mentions that its only for post paid GSM, but its working on my pre-paid too! Very strange that RCom is not mentioning GSM tariffs for RCOMNET APN. And Opera Mini on my phone is working only with the RCOMNET APN. Its not working with RCOMWAP (ph browser works with RCOMWAP though). So there is no known way for me to avail of RCOMWAP with its 50p/1 MB tariff?
-
Thanks dude. But any idea if the plans (for RCOMNET APN) are mentioned on RCom's site? I could not find them anywhere. Nobody has any clues about the other issues?

Our T Sky box takes around a minute to start up from cold. Now I'v not timed this with a stop watch... maybe next time I will. The program schedule takes even longer to download fully. Till then you won't be able to tell whats going on on the channels. It is quite irritating. As for the software, I found even the Hathway box's software (which we were using earlier) to be better than T Sky. But its not like its terrible... and I'd not say its a deal breaker.

Tata Docomo 99 Recharge Free Gprs For One Year And Tata To Tata Free
raccoon replied to rkburra's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
None of the other telcos including RCom are responding to this offer? If they don't, maybe I'll get Docomo soon... but only if they allow 1p/2sec calls along with this data plan. Can anybody else please confirm if both can be used together? -
We have been using Tata Sky for well over a year. I have till date not noticed any issues when it is raining.

Airtel is the biggest crook of them all. The more I have observed... and used their services, I'v only observed foul play. Not just the service but even their products (Bharti Teletech, etc.) are less than mediocre. I'm sure they mostly sell thru similar crooked tactics only. But by far the bigger evil is what Kesav has highlighted.

Yes, if a stylus is working, then it has to be resistive! From the comments here it seems the CDMA Corby has a resistive screen and the GSM Corby is capacitive (which is exactly what I had mentioned initially).

Need Suggestions For Mid Range Gsm Handset
raccoon replied to raccoon's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
Ic. However, I'm not in the know about HTC product quality. Are they supposed to be comparable to those from the biggies? Yes, the X2 with its 5 MP camera and competitive price is one that has caught my my attention. However, it does not have AF, so can't be sure of picture quality. Also, it does not seem to have reached the market yet.... or has it?? Unfortunately, I am unable to find good reviews and sample pics (take from the cam) of some of the handsets online... that is making the decision more difficult. Samsung B5772 (dual SIM) seems to be promising. Only drawback I can find is that it does not have AF and shape/body seems to be like that of the Corby (from pics... not seen in real), which I don't like. Anybody has any idea if its a worthy buy, considering the requirements above? -

raccoon replied to raccoon's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
Thanks a heap for the suggestions. HTC looks ok... will check it out shortly. Monte is on my consideration list, though it does not have some of the things I want. Corbys I mostly will not consider, as I find the shape kinda feminine, and the plastic body IMO does not even feel nice to hold. Android? This is mentioned on the ebay link given by konquerror above - Operating System : Brew® Mobile Platform with HTC Sense™ -

Sure it wont... but what I expect is that it should be amongst the best in its price range/class; as I currently don't have a digicam, and even if I had, I usually don't remember to take it along. E71 specs. are good, but Futurebazaar mentions the price as 13,900. Thats a bit out of budget. Or is it really available for sub 10k, in shops, like you mentioned? E63 seems to not have AF and its 2 MP. So I guess the cam won't shine.
