  1. Global Warming....

Awesome idea! I had received a free CD from some organization (IIRC it was PETA) and I tried distributing it to few friends... the reactions were funny. One of them saw the whole CD and dismissed it by saying that such things don't really happen in India... and they are bred for eating anyway... The other one saw it for like 2 mins and could not bear to see anymore. But nonetheless continues to be non-veg. He just prefers to close his eyes to what happens behind the scenes to bring him his chicken dishes in restaurants. So even after seeing such a "ghastly" documentary (I couldn't sleep well, the 1st time I saw it) many will dismiss it or many not see it beyond a couple of minutes. But still its really good that some of us try to bring the ghastly reality into people's faces.
  2. Global Warming....

I beg to differ. We are very much responsible all singly and collectively responsible for for what happens in our environment. I'd seriously doubt that. The effects are most likely to be way more widespread and unpredictable... and human tech. always has lots of holes.
  3. Global Warming....

Why does nobody ever talk about the mother of all problems? The burgeoning human POPULATION!! We are proliferating like bacteria!!! All this talk about living frugally will come to naught unless we stop multiplying. Every single human added is the biggest environmental hazard we can possibly have. And there is just so much that the Earth can tolerate/support.
  4. Right said... guess it applies here too. Furthermore, even voice clarity of RGSM has again become a sore point. I guess the only thing RCom scores currently is in tariffs... else there is no benefit in using their services.
  5. Yes. No recharge option for IDEA. You can currently avail this top-up service for Aircel, Airtel, Vodafone, Reliance, Tata Indicom, Virgin Mobile, BSNL and BPL (Loop) Mobile networks. I recharged my Idea phone today using Giftmate. It works for Idea, though they have not included Idea in the list. I called them up before doing it to confirm if it is possible for Idea. Recharged for Rs. 234 and got full Talk Time. Hope to get the Rs. 25 from Giftmate, as promised.
  6. It is not comparable to the ones I mentioned. Sorry can't help with Kaspersky. It has become a tad difficult to use Kaspersky without buying it...
  7. norton is latest, but my system is not.. So all the more reason for you to use an AV that s**ks up the least resources. The best by far (in this respect) is Dr. Web and F-Prot. When I last used them (over a year or 2 ago), they used just around 1 MB or RAM!! You won't even notice they exist, even on a very low end system.
  8. Wtf?! This sux! Idea is reducing tariffs elsewhere, but here in Mah & Goa circle, though they have the best network, the tariffs for both voice and data are totally uncompetitive! The lowest call charge you can get is still 50 p, (with some STV) but 1st local and 1st STD min. is charged at Re. 1 and Rs. 1.5 respectively. Idea Maharashtra is sleeping?!
  9. Am yet to experience any problems with SMS with any operator except RCom (dunno about Tata Indi). Worst is RCDMA and next is RGSM and also BSNL. However, my experience with BSNL was over 3 years ago... don't know if they have improved. With RGSM, though the problem of "Msg. Sending Failure" is almost gone, I don't get delivery report sometimes, even if the recipient has actually received the msg. And once in a while messages from other operators arrive on my phone after several hours.
  10. Norton now has an amazingly low RAM footprint. Tried it about 6 months back. Earlier it was one of the worst AVs money could buy.
  11. Better still you'll hear "Phone number does not exist"! Well, I have actually heard this recorded message when I'v called a friend of mine in Bombay who is on Vodaphone! Goes without saying that the number and friend were are are very much in existence. Just that inbetween they temporarily go outta existance.... But this is a nice trick. If they keep the phone off for 7 days, I guess most people will just not opt for it. So they will allow MNP... but will sabotage it enough reduce its bite.
  12. So again, whatever the reasons are, according to all the experiences mentioned here, there seem to be issues with texting when one (sender or recipient) of the phones is CDMA. In my personal experience too, I'v never had any issue between GSM-GSM texting. Introduce a CDMA inbetween, and things suddenly become unreliable. Really wonder why this is so...
  13. Do you mean you never received delivery reports or do you mean you did not receive while the receiving phones were switched on, and you did receive them once they were switched on? Seems like Tata Indicom is also going the RCom way of generating delivery reports the moment SMSs get delivered to their network instead of the subscriber's phone?
  14. All these SMS glitches I'v experienced only when RCom phones were involved. Can't recall any issues with other operators, till date (don't know about Tata).
  15. Message Sending Failed

Is it intermittent or you are just not able to send any SMS even after retrying? I had a pretty acute issue with the former case, few weeks ago. But after complaining, they seem to have fixed it. About 99% of my messages go on 1st attempt without a hitch as of now. One issue - sending may fail if the control channel is being used at that moment (incoming message, call, etc.). Consider this normal. I suggest you mail the service assurance dept. and follow it up.
  16. Have experienced this myself when I was on RCDMA... but its rare. Nobody can say for sure if the recipient is lying... or if he deleted the SMS inadvertently or something, unless seen with own eyes. But then a similar incident has never happened on any of the GSM phones I'v used. For this and other reasons, I have my doubts about Reliance. In any case RCDMA is fraught with all kinds of problems when it comes to texting, so the suspicion is very valid, IMO. Also, Reliance was generating and sending delivery reports the moment an SMS touched their servers... and not when it reached the recipient's phone. I don't know if they still do it... but if they are doing it, then you know what that means... But have never heard of Airtel doing this, so its probably unlikely in your case.
  17. Yes, its good. The service is bad though... if you ever need it. Thats the only reason why I still have it. Else RCom's BB tariffs seem to be more attractive and also they give some free calls per month. I'm tempted to change; but my dad doesn't want the number to change...
  18. Ditto! BSNL's tariffs are now totally uncompetitive. Have almost stopped using it for calls... looking at the tariffs, it seems thats what BSNL wants. However, landline voice clarity is best.
  19. Sms Through Cdma

Lol... same issue again. Dude, the only sane advice anybody can give you is to throw your CDMA phone far, far away, and live happily ever after. I would not count on them to ever fix it. And esp. when they are not responding as you mentioned, then just take your business to a more responsive company.
  20. Tata Consultancy Services Website Hacked!

That would be like publicizing an embarrassing incident even more. They probably decided to act as if nothing happened.
  21. A Novel Idea To Counter Poverty

Whatever is used, it would need to be food grade... and also printing with toxic inks is out.
  22. A Novel Idea To Counter Poverty

Wrapping food articles in normal newspapers is bad news. It can be unhygienic and also the inks used are toxic.
  23. IIRC, out of PPC, PPM and PPS, only PPS has 1 year validity whereas the other two have a lifetime validity for tariff. Have they changed it??
  24. The numbers given are the total of all towers in the city. Not just towers that don't have a formal clearance.
  25. Furthermore, I noticed that they have no option to recharge Idea phones?? At least the 1st option for "Instant talk time top-up" does not have Idea as an option. The 2nd option for "Instant Recharge Coupons" (which sends you to www.fastrecharge.com) includes Idea, but there is a "Internet transacton charge", and its a hefty 11% something! Whats more they don't have the full TT vouchers, etc. Bad! No deal!! But I could use it for Reliance. The "Instant Talk Time top-up" does not seem to have any extra charges. Am I right?
