Got an SMS from Airtel in Hindi {in Roman alphabet (sick!)} saying more talk time on ALL top ups. Does that mean non full talk time recharges?? I hope not... otherwise this is going to be one TRAI move that will prove counterproductive!!!

^^^ Very, very rightly said! Stopping emails ain't gonna stop terrorism!! I'm not saying do nothing, or offering solutions... but all this is more hype than real...

Such a fuss over emails... what if the terrorists just use good old snail mail? How are they gonna trace those??

^^^ Very easy to say all this... wish problems were so simple... Give the security agencies more power, and they will be terrorists themselves... Anything thats given for a reasonably justifiable cause can always be misused!

I dont think its a case of the IMEI not being there on these handsets! Thre problem is that several handsets in a lot share the same IMEI number! And thats what makes it difficult to trace the specific handset.

That is no consolation! They are legally, ethically and morally bound to give exactly what is advertised! Anything less than that is fraud!! Saurav, you should escalate the matter to Virgin's Nodal officer and then to their Appellete authority. Also send a complaint to TRAI and DOT's Consumer Grievance Cell. This is not likely to result in any concrete action, but you should still do it... its free anyway... If you want to do something concrete then a Consumer Court is your only option. Save the webpage both in soft and hard copy. Send it with all your complaints. Try sending a complaint to the MRTP Commission also.... as this clearly mounts to unfair trade practice. But I'm not sure if they handle telecom issues... no harm at all in doing it anyway... Don't give up! They should be fined for such frauds... don't forget to mention in your complaints that they are commiting this fraud with thousands of other customers too!!

Even here in Mah & Goa circle, Airtel does not have any SMS packs in pre-pre paid at least (dont know about post-paid)! So u have to pay the usual Rs. 1/2/5 for SMSes... unless you take the Friendz pack where A-A SMS is 10p and 25p for all others. Idea and others have much better deals... And besides other problems, I have started getting these sent failed msgs all the time, when trying to send SMSes on Airtel. Something that I'v not experienced before. Airtel sux!

Ya... cost of an SMS is (in most plans) much higher than a voice call... which is really strange!!! Good to know that TRAI is noticing this...

I dont think this has anything to do with Chrome exclusively... it will work when you type this in the Google search engine... and since the URL bar in Chrome works as a search field too, it must obviously be displaying the results the Google search engine.

Ya... rimweb.in loads real fast in Chrome. You won't feel like touching IE after using Chrome. I feel it loads a bit faster than even Opera... but then Opera has other things that I cant do without.

i did consider opera to be good too but then it would not open gmail account. dont know why.. so had to drop it. Hows that? I use Opera 99% of the times on my home comp. At least all the features I use work fine... including the new ones...

If that happens, it would the situation worse than before! It would mean a hike of about 13% in tariffs!! Actually, I feel, most telcos had full talk time offers only of v few denominations... and often they change the denominations too! What I'v observed is that, there is a class of users that dont know/dont bother to know about these things. I suspect, the telcos deliberately kept things that way, so that they can make more revenue from the people who dont bother... and those who are fussy about these things can also be satisfied with full talk-time offers. The telcos will loose revenue from the 1st catageory of people... lets hope they dont make up for it by discontinuing the full-talk time offers altogether!

Whatever the reason... a customer for who making/recieving calls is very important, is not bothered about whats the subscriber base of his telco, etc... and for him the telco with least congestion will make sense! Reasons/justifications don't matter... the telcos with higher subscriber base should have more spectrum and POI and whatever else that is needed... else they should not add new subscribers.

Great! Something which peeved me since begining has gone!! No rationale at all in paying extra charges when you have already bought the validity! It should have happened way before.... However, I always go for full talk time recharges (without even the service tax)... so it didn't really make a difference to me.

Hmmm... why not consider the good old warhorse RD2030... it would score with flying colours in this department... Whats more, if you can get one, you will be able to get it MUCH cheaper.

Exactly what I wanted to say Dkaile!! Its very difficult for the average user to comment accurately on something like signal strength! So please be careful before you comment and make recommendation guys! Best way to make a crude comparision is to ignore the signal strength meter and just concentrate on the voice clarity, call drops, etc...

How exactly are you guys comparing and commenting about comparative signal strength between diffrent handsets??

My ranking is based on number of call drops. But if GSM signals are not caught, I am sure CDMA signals will not be there. CDMA has lower penetration than GSM. I think not? Its more or less the same, in the real world. As for Reliance, it operates in 800 MHz band... so in fact penetration should be marginally better (at least theoretically... real life experience will of course depend on many other factors).

Got that Kumaar... Its sad that most CDMA handsets dont seem to even have this basic feature of automatic repetition... most GSM handsets seem to have it... CDMA is fit for pigs...
