Yes it keeps a "safe distance" from the media, but the lense has to work at higher intensity to read such media... and that is likely to reduce its working lifespan. Also, CD R/RW media are generally sensitive to light... not just direct sunlight! Keep them in cool dark places...

Hmm, CD-RW or DVD-RW media are not as easy to read as commercially available CD/DVDs. They require much higher laser intensity to read. To that extent, it might (or might now... Im not absolutely sure), affect the life of your lense. CD/DVD-R media also, I guess, are not as easy to read as commercially available CD/DVDs... but better than RW media.

Well, if there is congestion, the message should report it as congestion! If it says not reachable, then it means that the called person is out of coverage area! That would probably mean that the person you want is out of the city or something... Lots of possibility of confusion and misunderstanding! Towards the end of my days with Reliance, these status messages were not at all accurate. And AFAIK, to date, the phone stats is never reported correctly! My writing to them yielded absolutely no result. It was one of the reasons I moved out of Reliance. Now Im with Idea, and it always reports the phone status accurately...

Just living and dying is not the criterion! Its HOW you are living that matters... Maybe extensive cell phone users dont die earlier... but if the phones are having ANY kind of adverse effect, it is a matter of concern...

^^^ I dont think so. The difference is perhaps very slight. If the network is really good, voice clarity on both GSM or CDMA is nearly identical... in fact it can get worse on CDMA if there is congestion. That is my personal experience too. Besides CDMA suffers from Qualcomms/telcos shenanigans about getting stuck with their handsets, etc. I feel the benifits of CDMA far outweigh the disadvantages. Unless and until CDMA offers the same kind of flexibility of GSM (or at least cheaper tariffs), I woudn't consider it as an option anymore.

5,000 is not even peanuts for RCL. For sure there are many more customers out there, who have been cheated/blackmailed/held to ransom... but have not gone to court... so their story will never be heard. Even if RCL has to pay this kinda measly compensation to the very few who do go to court, they will still make lot more money thru the people who keep quiet... The courts really, really have to realise that this kind of compensation is a joke for these companies!

^^^ Gawd... if Airtel really had that kinda system, then all my calls would have been free from Airtel... most of the time, I have not been able to go 5 mins into a convorsation without getting a call drop! Couple of mails to Airtel just fetched a reply that there is nothing wrong with their network...

They SHOULD go bankrupt anyway, if their services are not at par with the competition... but most people stick to services/products even if it is substandard... and the less you are ready to change, the less incentive for the service/product provider to change anything...

But was the amount actually deducted from ur a/c? If yes, did you get a refund?

Online recharges are VERY convenient for sure, but I'v encountered problems. Usually they refund your money within 3-4 days, but once when I recharged using the Idea Cellular portal, and my HDFC a/c, the transaction failed and I got no refund. Hollered at both Idea and HDFC and both of them started blaming each other, and that I should claim refund from the other. After a lot of nonsense and fighting and waste of time, I finally got the damn refund after a good month or so! Also, none of the operators is mentioning all the recharge options on their websites. At least some shop owners have a better idea about recharge options (many dont, and then you have a mess again...). But at least when you recharge in a shop, I belive you can get immediate redressal, in case the recharge dosent get through...

Ya... instead just jump on the service provider who has the best service and tariffs in your area! Way simpler!

I have an Idea I-card active pre paid plan, which gives local Idea to Idea calls at 10p in happy hours (3-4pm & 10-8am). The plan is exactly identical to Airtel Friendz. But ever since I got the connection, I'v noticed a significant disrepency in billing... calls that are made close to the begining of the Happy Hours... say if if you make a call at 10:20pm, I was getting billed at the normal rate of Re. 1 instead of 10 paise! Apparently the clock in their billing systems was totally outta sync!! Cried myself horarse calling their Customer Care (which is almost always busy anyway!) and even Nodal Officer. In short, got no follow up or crap answers, etc. And the problem remained as it was for months. Then finally called up their appellete autohrity... and after weeks, and several sessions with them on the phone... like they wanted me to call up an Idea number at specified times, etc., they finally seem to have rectified the problem! And well, today morning I get a big flower bouquet delivered to my residence... with a card, thanking me and bla bla...

Yes, its cool... But the sad fact is that ALL operators in India seem to have almost uniformly pathetic customer service! You can almost never get ANYTHING done, unless you drag it to the highest level... and waste lotta time and energy in the process!! And that that sux more than I can describe...

Apparently what is being tested by the Hathway speed test is the bandwidth between the Hathway server and your comp. This can at best help you to know if there is any problem in the line between Hathway and you. For checking your ACTUAL speed, this will be TOTALLY useless. Very likely they will tell you that there is no problem as the Hathway site shows good speeds... and they cant do anything other sites are slow, etc. Dont get swindled by such replies. In fact I'd say just dont even waste any time with them... you will get nowhere ...just dump them asap, and get a connection that ACTUALLY works as promised... you should get the speed they promise at all times (5 - 10% less is permissible for overheads).

AfaIK, it is available in all GSM phone networks. It is called Call Barring - either incoming or outgoing - many options are there. You have to set your PIN2. Also a call barring password is required from the service provider. Maybe in prepaids, some operators do not offer this facility. Voda for instance in Chennai used to offer this facility even in prepaids, but all of a sudden, on some RCOM-like whims, withdrew it and said it causes some network disturbances. Atleast they provide some explanations - can one get any such thing from RCOM? Not even ADA will let you know. Probably DHA would have been more open, ha ha ha.... Ohhh... thats great... I should check out if I can use that service on my Idea... Thanks! Could have been, but RCom was launched after DHA expired, hence we could not have expected this at any point If you ask me, even if they do supply reasons, it dosent really help us. Only the facility can help! Besides, we all know the credibility of what few reasons they cite... you never know what the real reasons are... they often are pretty much different from whats made public. So I'v learnt that if someone else is offering the facilities I need, just jump the ship, pronto!
