  1. I fully endorse this view! And I too have suffered because of Nokia - I got a GSM Nokia which was faulty outta the box! Long story... but in short they are adamant about not giving replacements at any cost ...they just want to keep repairing it. Tried writing to Nokia India also. They do call back, and reply promptly to emails, but its all just nice words and no substance. The product s**ks!! I told them I'd never touch another Nokia product in my life ...and will try and influence any customer who plans to buy one. But they don't give a fig! For sure Nokia's philosophy is that India is a junkyard for their scrap!
  2. Handset With Sms More Than 160 Characters

I dont know what Reliance means by LMS ...cus friends have sent me SMSes > 160 characters from Reliance LMS enabled phones, and yet the SMSes come to my phone as seperate SMSes! Once in a while a part of the SMS just never reaches!! All VERY irritating. Reliance is the pits when it comes to SMSing. This LMS thingy is nowhere close to the slick way SMSes are handled on GSM phones.
  3. Reviving Lg2030

Rs. 800 plus battery will push up ur cost well over 1k. It just might be a better idea to get another 2nd hand handset which is in good working condition.
  4. Magnetism & Signal Strength

Iv been wondering if the magnet might have any adverse effect on the phone ....isnt it possible that it might affect the memory adversely?
  5. Idea Gang

BSNL may have excellent coverage outta the city, on highways and in small towns, etc, etc ...but inside the city it sux! Especially inside buildings...
  6. Idea Gang

How are they defining the "My Gang"?
  7. Damn... wish I had known this before... My Nokia 1112 was faulty out of the box ...but they are adamant about not replacing it. They just kept on repairing it and harassing me... Nokia s**ks! But this is not good if its misused... people may use it with perfectly good phones just to claim warranty!
  8. Need To Record Call Duration In Nokia 6275

I guess thats true. Im yet to see (not that Iv checked out many) a Nokia which logs the call duration. Even CDMA Nokias I'v seen dont log the call duration! I suspect Nokia is in cahoots with the telcos and has not decided to provide this facility, so less customers can crib about billing! Otherwise its v difficult to imagine how Nokia has chosen to avoid the inclusion of such a basic and critical feature. Pathetic! That said my GSM Nokia 1112 records the duration of ONLY the last call ...but you have to wade somewhere few levels into the call logs menu to find it.
  9. Same scheme here ...but am seriously considering migrating to the Rs. 500 per month plan as paying Rs. 1,000 per month just for internet is a tad expensive... and that too @ 256 kbps!
  10. Are Gsm Connections Cheaper Than Cdma

Very true. I'v just shifted from Airtel to Idea because after using Airtel for 3 months, Iv had a really bad experience with it - VERY frequent call drops, poor voice clairty, fluctuating signal strength, total network outages, no online recharge facility thru my bank, etc. Idea has none of these problems. However Iv discovered one problem with Idea - the network seems to not accept group SMSes! On phones which have this facility, If you try sent a SMS to multiple recipients only the 1st recipient's SMS gets thru and all the others fail. Of course the SMSes eventually get thru as most phones try to resend the SMSes. But depending on the phone, this takes several minutes. This is a very irritating problem. Airtel seems to have no problems of any kind with SMSing. Reliance is good for voice calls ...but lately the network quality has gone down, for sure. And for SMSing, Reliance is the worst choice ...and has multiple problems! Hutch I have not used personally, but frequently have problems calling my friends who are on Hutch. For sure the network is not upto the mark. I guess Idea rulez in Maharashtra circle!
  11. Are Gsm Connections Cheaper Than Cdma

As for the Airtel Bundled offer, Idea also has a bundled offer with a Motto handset. The advantage is that Idea offers full 2 years incoming AND outgoing validity with talk time equal to the price of the handset ...which as far as I remember is Rs. 1,999/- or whereabouts. Not sure what calling tariffs these operators are offering. If someone knows for sure please post. I kinda remember Airtel advertising 50 p/min for its bundled offer. As for non-bundled offers, you can get good stand alone offers in GSM too. I just got a new Idea SIM for Rs. 550 with a 1 year validity and Rs. 506 talk time. Tariff is same as the Airtel Friendz plan ie. 10 paise per min Idea-Idea calls in Happy Hrs ( 3-5pm and 10-8am). Idea-Idea local SMS @10 paise and all other national SMS at 25 paise, etc, etc. Have gotten rid of my Airtel Friendz connection as the network sux for voice calls (is v good for SMS tho). They dont even reply to emails. Idea is way better in Poona.
  12. Share ur RIM Numbers...

Errm... and what will these SMSes consist of??? The last thing I need now is random forwards from random people... And btw, I'm no longer on RIM ...so no on-net SMSes for me! Are you on MSN or something...?
  13. Share ur RIM Numbers...

Ya, me from Poona.. And dont really understand you SMS freaks! If someone floods me like that, I'll file a harassment case! Lol!
  14. Mobile Radio

They are aleady selling crappy phones without all kinds of features ...for those who are ready to put up with such stuff, the lack of one more feature shouldnt matter much...
  15. This is not a small problem as it will significantly reduce your battery life ...esp when travelling! May also decrease the life of your display. I have this problem with one of my GSM fones - L7. I even called Moto to ask for a solution, but was told there isnt one! Amazing!! I hung up with a suggestion/request that Moto at least provide a soution in a future software upgrade, if possible. I suggest you write to Nokia and do the same.
  16. Web2SMS Service from Tata Indicom

Subscribers not giving info about SMSes used is really bad ...but I think its imperative that ALL handset manufactureres give this function of being able to count the SMS traiff. It will also help in tallying the count by the operator. Unfortunately only a few handsets have this function... Its really amazing how makers of fancy and complex handsets miss out on so many basic functions...
  17. Free Sms India - To Any Mobile Phone !

Yes, that is always a concern! But for folks like me who really hate typin msgs on itsy-bitsy mobile screens, such facilities are a god-send! Anyway, the SMS sent to my Airtel hasnt got thru yet ....and its been 3-4 hrs now. Is it working for anybody?
  18. Free Sms India - To Any Mobile Phone !

Tried to send an SMS to my Airtel and RIM thru JSplash. The "gadget" seems to require Google desktop, which Im not willing to install. The SMS to RIM got thru in about 10 mins ...and the one to Airtel seems to have vanished ...hasnt got thru yet ...been about a half hour!
  19. Called Person's Location

Preposterous! I would not stand for callers knowing my location! I think mobiles themselves are an intrusion on your privacy ...and this would be the last straw!
  20. Non Availability Of Nokia Sets

These are REALLY strange policies?! A potential customer might just decide not to go in for a RIM connection altogether... or quit RIM if hes an existing customer ...if he does not get the kind of handsets he likes! More than half of RIM's policies just dont make sense ...yet they do roaring business ...which is even more strange! Guess you can sell anything in India...
  21. I had used BSNL's CDMA phone (Tarang) for couple months, about one and a half years ago. It didn't even have SMS ...and they certainly did not have net access on CDMA at that time. But their network and coverage was WAYYYYY better than their GSM service. Also, their broadband, once you get it, is mostly trouble free and gives the promised speeds. So I wont be surprised if you get decent to optimal speeds even with their CDMA connection. However, BSNL hasn't even been publicising its offering. Almost nobody I know has even heard of this offer ...and as Honest said, I dont think RIM or Tata will respond...
  22. Which Handsets Will Work On Both Reliance & Tata?

Yes, I dont think its RUIM slot is "active". Perhaps he could get it activated, get a RIM RUIM card, and then just change it (put in a Tata T-SIM)? Could anybody who knows comment, please?
  23. Which Handsets Will Work On Both Reliance & Tata?

I have a friend with a RIM Nokia 6255. He considering a shift to Tata because of the more attractive tariffs. Does anybody have any positive info on whether this handset can be used on the Tata network?
  24. New Nokia 2865 Cdma

160 chars isn't LMS! 160 chars = 1 SMS. LMS usually means multiples of 160 chars.
