Could you please inform if Diego ...and this method be used for GSM phones also???
-
The same is true for Motorola GSM phones like SLVR L7! Also there is no seperate list for missed calls and recieved calls! Only the calls which actually connected are shown with a microscopic "tick" mark! Also there is no way to know how many times you got a missed call from a particular number ....as only the most recent missed call from that number is logged! This kind of software is EXTREMELY annoying! Check out how these basic functions are organised before buying any cell, guys! Else repent for months/years later!

Yes, lately Im finding it very difficult to check the balance. *367 almost NEVER works ...and the SMS for getting balance details doesnt work especially at peak hours... sometimes I get the return SMS after 4-6 hours! Have complained to the "Service Assurance Cell" also, but lately they have just been as hopeless as their Call Centre. Reliance is going to the dogs on all fronts... So grin and bear with it or change to something else...

Intrusion Alert On Net Connect
raccoon replied to leochettiar's topic in General Technical Discussion
Reliance or any other ISP is not responsible for securing your terminal against such attacks... you have to take care of your own security. At least no ISP i know of in India keeps the security aspect of their customers in mind ... Even if they did, it can only be done to a v limited extent from their end! -

ADSL modem with NAT router will not protect from outbound threats...! -
It would be EXTREMELY useful if any users can post their experiences with these Classic handsets here ...esp. with reference to batt life, build quality and availability of basic functions like SMS to many, LMS support, reminders/alarm, visibility of time/date on screen, RUIM support, etc.

Wont work! Iv tried in the past to get friends/associates to get a RIM connection (ulterior motive u see... since it would be cheaper for me to call them!) But not a single person was ready to even touch a RIM phone ...no matter what! As for the data cards ...at least 2 of my friends who are currently using it are complaining of poor speeds ....and near zero customer care!

Let me rephrase - Reliance has PERMANENTLY deactivated call waiting and all other services like voice mail etc, etc, on pre-paid connections!

Sms Delivered Multiple Times To Airtel
raccoon replied to bsevishal's topic in Technical / OS related
Not a single of my contacts have (or had) a Tata mobile number. So there is no one to ask! The few who had RIM connectiosn have also given them up, as of now! I really like to know about both - sending and recieving SMSes! As u know, even the lowest end GSM phones can send and recieve SMS in multiples of 160 characters ...some I belive upto 900 characters (approx). And they are displayed as a one single SMS only ...though of course the sender would be charged in multiples of 160 characters. I would really appreciate if anybody could post his experiences with regard to LMS enabled RIM phones... -

None of the lower end phones support it??? And does it handle long SMSes as slickly as GSM phones? -

Does anybody know if the Tata network and handsets can handle SMSes bigger than 160 characters? -
Sms Delivered Multiple Times To Airtel

As you can imagine, if you complain, for sure, RIM will try to pass the buck to Airtel ...and I wont be surprised if Airtel does the same! But bottomline is that RIM has always been problematic with texting ...GSM phones seem to be lot more reliable ...and more inter-operator comaptible wrt texting... Not to mention, they can handle MUCH longer messages (700/900 characters in handsets). -

Iv been having all kinds of SMS problems with RIM every once in a while! Currently been SMSing a friend on Idea (local) ...and thanks to this new bright idea RIM has got, it splits SMSes above 153 characters into multiple SMSes ...and yes it chops off midway between words too ...very irritating and you have to make so many more keystrokes to get the "job" done! Argggh! Whats more often I get only one of the SMSes (usually the 1st one) ...and the 2nd never comes ...so Im left with incomplete SMSes! Whats more, I sometimes even get multiple copies of the first SMS! Could someone with an LMS (Long Messaging Service) RIM handset pleaseeeeeeeee tell me how it handles the job? Is it anywhere close to the way its done in a GSM phone with concatenated SMSes??? -
Are you on RIM pre-paid? If yes, just forget about call waiting/voice mail/call forwarding and all that jazz. Thou shalt not demand such impossible cutting-edge facilities from "world class" companies like Reliance!

Tata Bets Big On Cdma Technology
raccoon replied to KumaarShah's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
Well, thats not too different from Reliance ....since last few months, people are increasingly complaining that they just cannot get thru to my number! Usually on-net calls get thru ...but from any other cell or landline ...and especially for people calling from Bombay, it has become a major problem (dont know about other cities ...as i dont really get calls from beyond Poona and Bombay) Have tried calling my phone from GSM phones and most of the time (esp. in peak hours), calls just dont get thru. Outgoing SMSes fail quite often too... Add to that, the problem of incorrect (recorded) status messages when the phone is out of coverage/busy/network busy/switched off, etc. Reliance is no longer reliable! -
Arrest Ambanis For Not Providing New Cellphone: Kolkata Court
raccoon replied to Arun's topic in Reliance Communications
Why is it stupidity? Somebody has to be accountable! Else you think they will pay heed? Besides, we are talking about a pvt. company ...in the case of Railways/BSNL, I guess the head should/would be held accountable ...and maybe not the minister himself ...not sure what the law states in that particular respect though... would need to look at it... -
I believe GSM ops have similar if not better schemes. I dont have anything for or against Reliance ...just stating facts - for eg. Airtel has a friend's scheme or something, where calling rates are 10 paise, etc, etc. But ultimately it all boils down to your personal usage. I don't have anybody with RIM in my address book anymore, so such on-net schemes are no use to me. Post paid now seems more appealing with 50 paise calls, but there is no off-net SMS pack ...so no use!! And tariffs aside, you have to learn to live with those crappy CDMA handsets... and bad out of city coverage ...no escaping that one!!! And btw, 50 paise call tariff is now available with all/most GSM ops here now, without the high rentals! (Hutch to Hutch throught the day is 30 paise now!) So thats not an incentive anymore...

Dude, thats not really true... just the other day, I saw an Airtel ad budled with LG colour handsets. It had free incoming and free calls too. I cant recall the details though... And thats just an eg. ...similar new schemes from all operators are always coming. I'd still say, you get cheaper and better handsets if you go GSM ...and not only that you get better resale value for the handsets (esp. Nokia) ... Not to mention so many other benifits like being able to change the operator! The way I see it, with the current disadvantages, Reliance makes sense only if the phone and tariffs are at least slightly cheaper than the competition ...but this is currently NOT the case!
-
That statement is not justifiable if you see competing phones in the GSM segment. The screen size of he phone seems less than even average!
-
The general trend these days seems to be phones with bigger screens ...but most phones Reliance is coming out with seem to be going the other way - smaller screens!!!

Well, when I was fighting a case in the Poona District Consumer Court, they did have boards in the court building explaining the procedure for filing a complaint. You may even get the information online ...try googling. Besides that, may consumer organisations provide the info ....and often even free legal advice. You dont need a lawyer to fight your case in a consumer court ...if you are competent at arguing it yourself. Regarding your usage, I strongly suggest you keep your own detailed log of your usage and submit that in court. That will also help to make your case sound a lot more concrete ...and it will be something like your word against theirs. Also, give them as much adverse publicity as you can by writing in newspapers, or online reviews (Mouthshut.com, etc), word of mouth, etc. Good luck!

I'm downloading from Rapidshare.com this very moment ....and speed is 13 kBps!!! Lately, speed is normal at night only... And latency is still too high! (I'm on the unlimited 256 kbps plan)

How can this be??? Sounds incredible! For stand by time its ok ...but are you saying that your talk-time increases by 5-6 hours? Sounds almost impossible, as generally phones have a talk time of around 3-4 hours ...so in your case it means you are saying that you get around 8-9 hours!! I dont think any phone gives that kind of talk time ...esp. a CDMA and in a low signal area (as is your case)! Mobile battries are known to charge faster if the phone is kept switched off ...but have never heard that doing so can enable them to accumulate more charge. In my opinion, its always better to charge the battery for sometime (an hr or so at least...) more than the time required to charge it to the maxiumum (should be mentioned in the manual) ...as the batt indicators are not usually very accurate. If you are using the original charger, it should not be a problem as they are supposed to protect against overcharging anyway... Other than this factors like temperature, etc can be a factor. Lower temperatures obviously mean higher charge retention... Also, for li-ion batts, frequent charging is recommened ...rather than charging after the batt is completely discharged. Not very easy to practice ....given the poorer batt life of Reliance handsets....

Both Reliance & Airtel seems to me like sister concerns, both offer plans which benefits the service provider more than the consumers & above all there is always some element in both the company's bills which is hard to understand & accept. so u r simply left to pay more than u used to these firms. I wish that some honest company with some very honest plans wins the battle in the telecom sector. Thats very true ...so lets not cheer at one and hoot at the other like ****ers! Only a fool would be a "loyal" customer of either ...its best to switch to the one that is currently giving you the best value for your dough. The main impediment to this is the lack of number portability, which seems unlikely to happen anytime soon.

This is wrong info ...you need to dial *374 (free) to activate the service! Sending SMS to 1234 is charged ...and is for recieving the list of missed calls ...and its charged. I just lost Rs. 2 trying to activate it AGAIN ...and from your post I thought that it was the procedure of activating it (had done it before, of course, but forgotten how).
