Time? I dunno about time ...Im only stating what currently is! If Reliance sorts itself out in future, one can always come back! hpnasik, Call Waiting and other services like voicemail etc, have been officially and PERMANENTLY de-activated for pre-paid customers since quite a long time now. What you say is valid only for post-paid connections. Missed call alert is not reliable ...I sometimes get the SMS intimation and sometimes I dont! And sometimes i get the intimation even when I shouldn't ...ie. when im in a full coverage area and phone is idle!! And yes, I dont get any SMS intimation of waiting calls ...so its not even a poor substitute for the call waiting facility!
-
What exactly is there to wait about??? You want everyone to use crappy Reliance handsets and high tariff plans, have assorted connectivity problems and forget about basic facilities like call waiting?? All the things that made using Reliance a li'l worthwhile have been withdrawn! The few people I know who were using Reliance have shifted to Airtel ...with handsets which look like a dream to me ...and cheaper tariffs too! So I guess me too will have to shift ...and its cheaper! The only advantage Reliance has here is that in-city coverage is better than Airtel.

You gotta specify what exactly is not working dude...! I mean any error msgs or is it making the output file or are you having problems playing the video file ...or what?
-
Its very likely its a split archive created using something like HJSplit. If it is, then I doubt if Winrar will work! It might make more sense to try with HJSplit 1st as it needs no installing, is free, and is very small & easy to use...
-
Rimweb, Vinuthomas, Wilderssecurity, Bitcomet, Ccleaner, etc., in that order ...and few others like Kaspersky, etc., in a need based way...
-
Ya, seems so! Download speed is nearly normal as of now ...but its not constant like before! Also latency is around 400 ms!! And upload speed is around 40 kbps!!! I seriously hope they are considering a speed upgrade for us home unlimited users ...256 kbps @ Rs. 900 just dosent make sense anymore!
-
Torrents work fine with bsnl bsnl gives public ip and also upload cap is 256kbps. Upload cap is 256 kbps?????? Hows that possible??? I can only upload at around 6.5 kBps. Sometimes goes to a max of 7 kBps. But nothing beyond that!
-
Torrents, Gnutella, eDonkey all worked fine for me here in Poona ...that was before they screwed up the speeds! And yes, I always get a direct connection ...ie. open listening ports ...which means a high id on eDonkey. The biggest problem is that its an asynchronous connection ...so I can only upload at around 6.5 kBps which in turn means download speeds are severely limited in most P2P like eDonkey and even Torrents to an extent. Gnutella of course, is not affected... Users for who P2P is the main concern, should avoid asynchronous connections like BSNL braodband.

I believe thats where I sometimes get people who can talk a tiny bit of sense. But as I said getting thru is almost impossoble, as its permanently engaged. The call centre guys are worse than hopeles... Right now getting a ping of around 450 ms. Not good ...but much better than yesterday! And its not constant...
-
This is terrible - Currently getting ping time around 900 ms for most international sites!!! Rimweb.in for eg. averages to around 750 ms!! Bsnl.co.in shows around 150 ms! BSNL BB has gone to the dogs! Don't know when they are going to fix this ...and its almost impossible to get thru to their damn helpdesk! And yes, I'm on the Home 900 Unlimited plan!
-
Im in Poona on the home 900 unlimited plan ...and since the proposed upgrade, my connection often behaves worse than a dial up ...especially during the day. Only very late in the night does the speed usually catch up... A dozen complaints to the technical help desk have not made any difference. In fact the number is almost permanently engaged. You cant get worse customer care than BSNL. Previously, at least the connection used to work fine ....but not anymore!
-
Arun, Honest, Vishal, Abhay, thanks soooooooo much for the wishes! Sorry haven't been able to see much of you guys here on RIMweb, or contribute anything, due to time constraints, but hopefully that will change...
-
Oh ya?! Well, try BSNL, etc ...then we can discuss customer care! I'm NOT defending RIM .....im saying real customer care still seems alien in India. It will be very difficult to decide who gets the prize for worst customer care. We have very, very strong contenders in this holy land...

Cud someone be really sweet and send me a Demonoid invite?

Well, most people I know who use GSM dont even know that this concept of firmware upgrade exists! I guess its only us CDMA users who are penalised like this! And its not just the cost ....but also the inconvinence of going all the way to a service centre to get the job done ...which itself can take some time. And if something goes wrong, you get screwed and milked some more! Not to mention your number may be unusable for sometime (no SIM). With these kinda things CDMA will die sooner rather than later...

"system Under Upgradation Forever"-reliance Cc
raccoon replied to schumi's topic in Technical / OS related
Ya, that has been my experience many times too - CC just flatly refuses to take complaints about billing errors! In fact as of now I feel CC is almost TOTALLY useless. I don't see why they are employed even for 1 hr! The only help Iv ever gotten is from the Chairman's office. And they refunded wrongly deducted amounts 3 - 4 times after complaining. I wonder how they refund if they have this so called "error-free" billing! Reliance CC is a dirty joke! -
Still awaiting their reply... About BSNL's DNS servers ...well, I can only compare relatively ...and I can't compare unless I can get Opendns to work!
-
Ya, it all depends on how well your ISP is managing its DNS service. But using a server halfway around the globe might be inherently a bit slower than using your ISP's local server ...thats what I was wondering about. Of course there are other factors... The link you have given ( www.opendns.com/welcome ) is dispaying a positive answer; while the one I'v mentioned in my last post isn't! Anyway, I dont think its working for me ...and no assistance from Opendns, till now...
-
Dude, OpenDNS has given 3 ways to check if its DNS servers are being used. The 1st test is to go to http://welcome.opendns.com/ . I get the "Oops" page everytime. The other 2 URL's display the page not found standard browser message. Tried after rebooting and on 3 different browsers! It definitely does not seem to be working. Haven't checked the XP firewall log as logging isn't enabled. I don't see how it will help... Anyway, how much speed difference do you really find? Are you using your ISP's DNS servers? Which?
-
Well Opendns is not working on my system. Im on DataOne and XP Pro. Tried writing to them too ...no reply yet. Is it working for anyone?

Reliance Communication To Enter Gsm Services
raccoon replied to abhay's topic in Reliance Communications
This is bound to reduce investment in CDMA infrastructure. And we RIM has a lot to do - highway coverage, hill station coverage, 3G, better handsets, etc, etc!!! Seems like all this is not going to happen in a hurry now! One more reason for customers not to invest in expensive CDMA handsets ...at least for now ...and more incentive to shift to GSM! -
Is This A Spam? I Got This Mail Today
raccoon replied to cracker's topic in General Technical Discussion
Well, I replied to that ...but seems the post has been deleted. Again, in brief, as I said last time, I started getting very similar kinda spam on the new email ids I had used to register with cellebrum. Used to use cellebrum before the 180 voucher, so dont remember the details now ...nor can I be absolutely certain that its Cellebrum who is selling ids to spammers, but I'd be very suspicious. Perhaps other users can see if their experience tallies. And it may be better not to use your regular email ids to register with such companies ...unless you want to be overrun by spam! -
Is This A Spam? I Got This Mail Today
raccoon replied to cracker's topic in General Technical Discussion
Well any mention of spam makes me see red! In spite of taking all kinda care, the amount of spam I'm gettin has been increasing steadily. In fact 95% or so of mail im getting now is spam! Gmail and Yahoo generally do a good job of filtering spam (but sometimes tag genuine mail as spam, too) but my POP3 and Hotmail inboxes are facing the brunt of it! I'm using Mailwasher for my POP3 ids ...but i fear I'm spending more time dealing with spam than with the genuine mail!!! One thing I'm fairly sure about - cellebrum.com seems to be giving/selling ids to spammers! -
Dude, there are many variants of malware that are extremely difficult to detect ...like rootkits, etc. Nobody except the writer can know exactly how it will behave. One can also write malware which does its thing and then cleans up after itself! So how can one possibly prove anything concrete? Also, one can always claim ignorance ...and anyway, how many comp users do you think even know half the things about malware? It a very, very plausible excuse. Its an amazingly complex jungle! Laws are made by asses ...the more laws we make, the more loopholes you can find! If we see whatever we see on our own comps and net which we are paying for, its no one elses business to tell us what is good for us to see! Gawd knows when humans will see the wisdom is minding their own business...

I just cant belive you guys will be ready to shell out 17k for a CDMA phone! In case you have a problem with RIM, all that moola goes down the drain! Also, there is no telling what the resale value would be!
