Lets assume for now that its illegal to surf porn even in your private premises ...and they do catch you. Well, a very good way out would be to say that you had absolutely no idea about visiting any porn site. And as you know, many types of malware redirect you to porn site without any action of the sort on your part. So how can you be held responsible? In fact you can claim to be the injured party as it was your system that was intruded upon and your security/privacy/data that was compromised! Tell them to throw the book at the malware creators! You can always get malware to work in your favour, you see?

Free Email To Sms On Reliance/tata Mobile (email 2 Sms)
raccoon replied to cmahendra's topic in Data services
I'v been using it since it started and have not been charged for it. But lately have been getting tons of spam on my phone thru Hotmail porn sites, casinos, drugs, loans, whatnot! And yes, my Junk filter is set to "Enhanced"! -
I second that! I'v had a hotmail account since ages which I had almost stopped using long ago ...but only few months ago started to use it a bit more only because of the email to SMS facitlity. And now, since the last few days I'm getting tons of spam ...and all that comes on my phone as SMSes!!! Needless to say my junk filter is activated ...and I'v set it to "Enhanced" ...still no use! As of now its more of a nuisance than good use! A better option would be to configure ur RIM to MSN messenger ...then people can send u IMs (when you are offline) which will come as SMSes to your phone (like yahoo ...but sans the 3 message limit).

Very true. I'v had a nightmarish experience with my Hathway connection. Made them disconnect it long ago, but they are yet to refund my money! Since then, after seeing positive reviews online, Im on BSNL DataOne. Its surprising that an ugly enterprise like BSNL give far more reliable service than these private operators! But its a fact ...strange as it is! Ya sure BSNLs customer care is the pits ...but then after more than 6 months of use I'v only seen 3 downtimes ...so dont really need their pathetic customer care unless you got some sort of problem. Whats more speeds are v close to what is promised ...whereas this is often not the case with the above pvt. operators. Tanveer, If I were you, I'd have stopped that cheque asap. Unless we stop letting these ISPs taking us for granted, things will remain as they are.

Hmm ...thats v strange! Even the folks at the webworld told me Nokias dont support more than 140 chars! Mebbe it changed later ...or maybe it was wrong info. Don't remember for sure ...but at least the 3125 wasn't out at that time. I guess the correct statement would be that some CDMA Nokias support 160 and soem dont. Anyway, its good that some do ...but lack of LMS cud still be an issue for most people.
-
Are you sure??? Because when I was considering a handset upgrade I was given to belive that no Nokia model currently supports more than 140 characters ...even the top end 6255!
-
If you are going for Nokia CDMA, dont forget that all of them have the 140 character SMS limit ...not even 160 ...LMS is way off!

Reliance Mobile Has The Finest Network Performance In India
raccoon replied to Gaurang's topic in Reliance Communications
Since SMSes use the control channel for transmission, they shouldn't interfere with voice calls. Hence it should have been possible at least for SMSes to get thru. But this was not the case on the day of the blasts! Except the messages I sent to an Airtel in Andheri, which got thru with near normal speeds. Strangely, even messages I sent to a Bombay RIM got thru only several hours later! So the moral seems to be that may it be SMSes or voice calls, CDMA or GSM ....they all give up the ghost when you REALLY need them! Most notably, RIM inspite using CDMA does not seem to be any better ....good tech but BAD implementation is what its always looked like! -
Reliance Mobile Has The Finest Network Performance In India
raccoon replied to Gaurang's topic in Reliance Communications
Well, even if just SMSes would get through, you guys can at least inform others that you are safe or whatever. But even this was not working in most cases! In fact new SMS issues (discussed in other threads) have cropped up even otherwise. Network overload is a fact ...but from the user's point of view it is at times like this that a cell phone is MOST important ...and not so much for the other small talk that is indulged in at "normal" times. And when it gives up on you when you need it the most, is when its the most frustrating. As for the 1st post of this thread, thanking ADA ...I just don't see what to thank him about. The network has just gradually deteriorated since hes been at the helm. Thats all I can think of thanking him for, right now! -
Reliance Mobile Has The Finest Network Performance In India
raccoon replied to Gaurang's topic in Reliance Communications
Hehe ...you gotta know that a lot of things told to us are not anywhere close to the facts. Puneet, true that the networks are not designed to handle the kind of traffic in crisis situations like these, but I feel at least there should be some sort of queue for the calling traffic (& SMS of course) ...and the caller should be informed that the route is busy or whatever. This did not happen yesterday ...or maybe it was because the lines were deliberately jammed. Furthemore the telcos shoudl at least issue a notice confirming that deliberate jamming was in place ...or otherwise. -
Reliance Mobile Has The Finest Network Performance In India
raccoon replied to Gaurang's topic in Reliance Communications
Well, I wasnt able to get thru (call or sms) to my friends in Bombay ...not even the one on RIM! Some of the SMSes sent reached after several hours of sending them. SMSes to one friend on Airtel however, were getting thru with almost normal speed (didnt try calling him). IMHO, RIM being CDMA, there should be less congestion than the other GSM operators ...but otherwise, as a whole, it seems no better or worse than others. -
Do you guys actually read posts before commenting??? My comments in the post above are purely restricted to commenting on the Intel speed test, for pete's sake! What I ment to say is that the reading given by that test is inacurate ...and is not supported by any other software/site I'v tested with. Nowhere have I said anything about R-connect! Just took another test and have posted the screen shot below. This reading is bunk too! Firstly, I haven't compared ...but now that you have mentioned it, my broadband connection is in no way more costly than R-connect. Just see the available plans before you comment on that! R-connect is in no way cheaper than most broadband plans ...but of course if you need mobility, you cant compare a wired line with wireless ...and thats obvious! R-E-A-D before you post, guys!
-
Be very careful before you go in for Broadband ...esp. from local cable operators! I had a HORRIBLE experience with Hathway in Poona. Still not got my refund! Sify, etc., also has a v bad reputation. Just see the reviews on the net.

Well, let them say they are not responsible if anything goes wrong ...and we can say we are not responsible if we dont buy any more LG phones/products. LG hasn't even established itself as a serious player in the mobile segment. Surprising that they should come up with such rip-off ideas!
-
Hehe! Just look at the reading I got - 472.5 kbps! I'm on DataOne 256 kbps (upload speed only) connection. Needless to say the reading is bunk. I'v never gotten anywhere even close to that speed! Moreover, its not measuring the upload speeds which are no less important! The dslreports speed test is much more accurate and measures upload speed also.
-
Perfect! Any sane customer would blacklist LG phones now! And thats pretty much like blacklisting RIM as there isn't much to choose from anyway.
-
If true, this is preposterous! I'd suggest you at least dash off an email to LG support head office or something, to confirm and protest. When I was last at the LG service centre here, they had put up the email and phone number on the not notice board. I can't find it now. You could try to get it on their portal.
-
Well, if you had a VSNL (Tata Indicom) net account you could have very easily found out the accessing number yourself from their portal. No such frills with BSNL. Anyway, since thats not the case, you could try to speak with the divisional engineer of the exchange or someone higher. No use pulling hair with the bureaucrats below.
-
Well, I belive you need to be using a BSNL internet connection to be able to send mail thru their SMTP server. It was a big pain for me too, when I was using Sancharnet mail. I wasn't able to find any way around it...
-
Reliance Mobile? So I guess you can no longer say RIM (Reliance India Mobile)??? And no, how do you say the tariffs are same? They are getting worse...
-
BSNL has a SMS gateway on its Sancharnet Portal. You just need to buy a Sancharnet pre paid internet card ...you could use the whole balance for SMSes, if you like. I know BSNL may not be available in Bombay, but you could get someone to buy it from Poona or wherever its available, and use it in Bombay. The charge is 30p for a national SMS. You can even use it from your POP3 mail client; and you can send to multiple recipients. I used it moderately when I was using dial up. Initially it was quite reliable, but later it went for a toss for quite some time and later started working ok again. In short BSNL may not be totally reliable and the web interface is nowhere close to other providers like Cellebrum; and there is no system for delivery reciepts either (not sure if they have started now) ...but at 30paise/national sms its worth considering.
-
It seems he wants to use 1st SMTP to send outgoing mail from his mail client, instead of Gmail's servers. If so, it should be possible - substitute the Gmail server name with localhost...
-
Well, I was told it wasn't possible! Mebbe they lied ...but if they were ready to save the address book, then I don't see why they wouldn't want to save the messages, etc.

Reliance Communication To Enter Gsm Services
raccoon replied to abhay's topic in Reliance Communications
I dont see why onnet or CUG would have to be stopped. You may not be able to tell the operator offhand by looking at the number, but there sure as hell are other ways of finding out who the operator is! It would help if someone could tell us what the system is in countries like US, etc, where MNP is in place. I don't think it will be very good for consumers if RIM gets the GSM spectrum. It will increase their monopoly and reduce competion. Already it has the largest subscriber base; and to augment it further will give Reliance a huge monopoly in the market, which it will obviously exploit... -
Well, I had upgraded the firmware in my LG RD 2030 twice. I was told that they can make a backup of the phone book and restore it ...but I would loose all my SMSes. Ringtones ...I don't remember. Anyway, if your data is very important you should not count on them 100% to salvage it!
