  1. Well, not just calls but net connections also ...like my Sancharnet (BSNL pre paid net account) connection gets disconnected exactly every 2 hours!
  2. BIRTHDAY WISHES!

Once again a very happy b'day to you, Chirag! May your moderating glory spread far and wide in the years to come!
  3. My Review On Lg Rd2030

Though I did have minor hiccups, mine is going strong after about 2.5 years. And looks brand new too ...I usually put on the plastic cover when I take it outdoors. One of my friends is using it for 3 years now ...without any probs. But it looks like a real "war horse" ...totally battle worn. Well, even the kids in this house play with it...
  4. Motorola V730 / Rim Service

Thats not entirely true. Some GSM plans are cheaper than RIM. And until now GSM was way cheaper for SMSing ...until the 180 card! But still, you will have to deal with that 140/160 character thingy and other incompatibalities... Noway you can say RIM is cheaper, as a rule ...but then of course it depends on your indivdual pattern of use...
  5. Well, here in Poona, my RIM went down sometime before and after midnight. Not possible even to send SMSes. Thought after sometime, it was possible to send messages only to the few RIM numbers I know. Not possible to GSM numbers. And I havent been getting delivery reciepts to GSM number almost throught the day! In my rough opinion, congestion wise: Reliance (95% of the times calls get thru in 1 attempt) Airtel BPL Idea (seems to have improved lately) BSNL (No idea about Tata mobile, as nobody I know has one)
  6. Bsnl Comes With Impossible!

I guess this does not help those in the zero rental plans ...ie. 480 something and above. They should have done something about the tariffs ...especially landline to mobiles tariffs! It costs Rs. 1.60/- per min to call local cell phones (and I guess now, FWPs also)! Compare that with GSM mobile to mobile tariffs of about 50p/minute! Dosen't make sense to use a BSNL landline anymore.
  7. LG RD 2030 group SMS ?

Yes, I was told that you will be charged 80 paise if you use that feature, even if you have recharged with 180 SMS card.
  8. Nokia Sets Being Sidelined

I don't think thats quite fair. Iv been using the RD 2030 for more than 2 years now. I don't think there is any problem with reception. I havent compared the reception with all models, but seems its definitely better than the Nokia 2280 ...and maybe same/similar to the Nokia 2112. Battery is also ok ...not great of course but its just about tolerable. Actually, talk time is good ...may give more than even 3 hrs of talk time after full charge, but the problem I think are the LEDs. They take up too much power ...so if backlight remains on a lot ...like if you SMS a lot, batts run out real fast. Vibrator will make it run out real fast, too. Also, have you upgraded the firmware? Thats very imortant - will have a direct bearing on reception ...and as per my observation, it seemed to improve batt life also. I'v been told that you should have at least version 15 (thats what I have). Though I belive couple of other versions have been released... I havent upgraded cus Reliance still dosen't have a handset which I like ...and I'm not going to upgrade until they do.
  9. BSNL SMS service (from their portal or thru POP3 email) hasnt been working for me since about Diwali. Complaining to BSNL ...less said the better. It it working for anyone???
  10. Nokia 6255 Reviewed

How can you guys consider a 12K phone which dosent even have LMS???
  11. Lifetime validity offers galore

There is one more significant issue here - the phone number! If we have a regime where it costs nothing to keep a phone number alive, then lots of people are going to keep those numbers indefinitely ...even when they dont really need them! And most likely many numbers wont be used for incoming either. Like spectrum, telephone numbers are also a resource which is limited. So one can imagine the impact on that...
  12. Sms To Relience Number From Net

But after that one reply how many messages can you send from Chikka before requiring another reply?
  13. One 256 Ram Or Two 128 Ram

Its good to have both the DIMMS of the same speed ...but if thats not possible, at least avoid speeds that are slower than your existing RAM. Faster should be ok. Generally, when you use DIMMs of varying speeds, the system defaults to the speed of the slowest DIMM.
  14. Wrong Billing

Eh?! Re-activation charge is around Rs. 100/- ....and in this case his rental is Rs. 1500/- per month, minimum! Thats loot!!
  15. Beware Of New Entry Level Handsets

The heating is likely to be caused because CDMA circuits have to do more work... That also is the likely reason why generally CDMA sets have shorter battery backup. The heating is unlikely to cause any harmful radiation. Though Im wondering - usable battery life is likely to be reduced due to both - higher power requirement and heating (which is bad for li-ion batts).
  16. Wrong Billing

Even BSNL does not charge rental if phone is disconnected. Phones are disconnected (and billing stops) for any one of two reasons - 1) Non payment of bills. 2) Application for termination of service. There is no rationale for paying rent when you are not availing any services!
  17. One 256 Ram Or Two 128 Ram

One DIMM is likely to be more efficient (faster) than two ...but in case it fails you'll be without any RAM ...whereas if you have 2 DIMMS of 128, you can always run your comp on one, till you get a replacement for the other.
  18. Sms Gateways

Even these SMS sites shortchange us for characters when it comes to RIM! s**ks!!! I just tried sending a msg to my RIM ...havent got anything yet. Is it really working???
  19. Mukesh Ambani Dials Sinha (mtnl)

MTNL's ugly sister BSNL is no different! They dont have a working helpline for Data One broadband!!! Can you beat that? (that way you cant say its bad - its just not there!!! Trust BSNL to come up with innovative, foolproof solutions! ) I mean they have provided a number saying its for DataOne support, but believe me, they dont know a thing! In fact one guy told me they can only help in giving basic info for new connections!
  20. Well, I guess they modified that slightly - "Calls cheaper than the rate of envelopes"!
  21. Should Camera Phones Be Barred!

Nobody is suggesting that one conducts oneself where one is a nuisance to others. Yes, people do this all the time ...thats different. For eg., how many times have we been disturbed by people speaking loudly on mobiles in movie theatres? So then do we ban phones in movie halls? Well, I take my mobiles to movies, but I absoultely make sure that no one is disturbed by it. Basic etiquettes must be in place ...that is another issue! Let us not mix issues!!
  22. Ala Re Ala Hutch!

And what is the applicable tariff for these sets? If its the old tariff of the 330 voucher (Rs. 1.79 to off-net mobiles), then its a rip off!!!
  23. Should Camera Phones Be Barred!

These are all nice rationalisations to curb individual freedom! Firstly, if someone wishes to undertake "indecent" activities which are not a nuisance to others of course, its their business! And I thought the issue here is about cell phones in general ....not specifically camera phones. Camera phones, I think do also pose a threat to individual privacy ...so that could be a problem.
  24. Should Camera Phones Be Barred!

These are dangerous developments ...if not checked, we will soon have lots more of these mediocre people trying to teach us "morality"!
  25. More RAM will in no way DIRECTLY boost your internet throughput! Though It may let your applications run smoother, in general (or XP, its good to have AT LEAST 256 MB RAM). Nor will changing your browser make your net surfing any faster! At best browsers differ in their page rendering speeds ...which is more or less negligible! And btw, Dr. Web and F-prot require the lowest resources. NOD32 is a good AV but not exactly in their league (in this respect) but its definitely "lighter" than Norton, etc.
