Yes, thats exactly what CC told me - its Airtel's fault. And I'm sure Airtel will pass the buck back at RIM! Chairman's office hasnt even replied to one my two mails. Thats not happened before! I suggest you guys write to the Chairman's office too ....and get the Airtel users to howl at Airtel!!! Meanwhile, gotta try this prefixing zero thingy...

In general, I would agree with ani_meher. The moment I hold a Nokia phone in my hand, I fee certain that this is not the one I'd care to own ...usually bulky/plasticky/screen not so great, etc, etc. And yes, of course the bloated price! But maybe some specific models are better ...so I wont generalise.

The network problem here seems to have been solved ...but new problem now - with SMSes! Many messages simply dont reach the destination and many dont reach my phone! The problem does not seem to exist when its RIM to RIM ...only with other operators ...most notably Airtel. In fact on some days almost no message from Airtel phones is getting through! This is so frustrating! And its not just with me ...my bro and other users here are complaining of the same thing! Till now, generally, about 5 - 10 % messages used to get lost ...but not suddenly its much, much higher. Almost half were lost on some days! Writing twice to the Chairman's office hasn't even evoked a reply!

I'm not sure if you can make a general statement like that. Though I havent really made a comparative study as such ...but one of my friend has Nokia 2280 here and me LG RD2030. He on his Nokia very often complains that RIM network in the city isnt good. That hasnt been my experience at all ...get pretty good coverage on my LG almost everywhere. Maybe other Nokia models are better ...maybe its problem with his handset only ...not sure! And I'v hardly if ever experienced call drops ...except maybe during the period when the network here had gone for a toss (for about a week). No probs. now.

Thanks so much for the wishes, Chirag & Ashok...
-
Iv noticed that in the RD2030 and Nokia 2112 also. But indicators are caliberated differently ..there is no standard. Also it may be that the indicator in Nokia is being refreshed more often, or something. LG may be doing it less frequently. In that case, the Nokia will seem to fluctuate. Anyway, its best to see the actual performace ...the signal bars are just rough indicators.
-
Hey thanks so much dudes ....Rajan and Tanver!
-
A comparision of the signal indicators of a mobile phone is not a very accurate way of determining its reception strength! Different manufactureres calibarate them differently. It may be a better idea to see how the phones work in areas which have very weak signal ...and see how they actually operate there...

BSNL is the pits in every way! Anyway, that aside, this 45 sec pulse is absurd! That means considering Rs. 1.2 per call, it costs exactly Rs. 1.50 per minute to call a local cell or FWP! And I can do that with my RIM for 80p ....or just 40p if its RIM to RIM/FWP!!! Previously I used to use the landline for outgoing calls and RIM mainly for incoming. Now I'v had to change that! Does BSNL want to kill its landline business? The only advantage in having a BSNL landline is for its Broadband and BSNL landline to landline calls (diminishing)!

Of course there is a point in this discussion! Fact is that most popular security apps are resource hogs (tho they are relatively more user friendly). But obviously that does not mean you can do without any security! Question is how to strike a balance between the two ...and its possible. I got a machine which is both well protected & quite fast (In fact never been infected)! It is possible, but you need to expend some time and energy in the whole thing ...at least initially. Something most lay Windows users do not do/are not able to do...
-
If CC starts giving such solutions RIMweb may as well close down...
-
Most of those things are FANTASTIC at bringing your machine to a crawl!
-
Well then you could crate another a/c on the desktop ...or better still look for a job in a porn friendly company!
-
SexyGurl, as Arun Pointed out, the solutions you have suggest are FULL of holes! Do not decieve yourself that you can be protected thru those means. And about swapping HDDs, I woudlnt even consider it. You may end up damaging the connectors or even the HDDs, eventually. Also, you'd need to power down every time you want to swap HDDs, etc, which is bad for the machine. And while at all this, you will spend more time messing around with ur PC than doing any productive work! And yes, mostly viruses can remain on your HDD only. Once RAM is powered off for sometime, memory resident viruses will be wiped out ...however there are also some rare ones which can affect ur BIOS ...if that happens ...bad luck! Better you look at software that allows you to create a virtual drive. You can use all that your not so safe things ...and then just delete the drive. I dont remember the name of the software right now ...and have not used it. But its supposed to be useful for esp. this kind of thing. The 2nd option you can do is to crate and use only a limited user account in XP for web browsing, etc. That way, damage will be restricted to that account only ...which you can just delete after you mess up too much. But this is again not 100% secure ...and it can be irritating to work that environment (depends on ur use) ...but still, this will go a long way to ensure security. But I dont know why you are suggesting such roundabout and tedious ways. I have XP, 4 partitions on my HDD, plenty of assorted data/proggies and I visit *ALL* kinds of sites ...and have successfully bounced every single strand of malware ever thrown at me.

Panasonic Cordless Dial Tone Is Not Wrking!
raccoon replied to saurav123's topic in General Technical Discussion
No, it is not so on all phones! I have a phone on which the signalling method has to be changed thru the console keys. This is how it is on my ph - Press SET key (this may be the PROGRAM key on ur set) Press # key Press 1 for pulse / 2 for tone Press SET key to save This is how it is on mine. May be similar on your set ...or may be quite different. If you tinker around, you might get lucky. But best to try to get the manual. Or ask somone who has a Panasonic... -
Well, in crappy li'l Poona, Hathway is now offering unlimited downloads in night usage plan (8 pm to something in the morning...). Speed 256 kbps something ...cable modem connection. Cost: Rs. 400/month. But I wouldn't touch them wiht a bargepole after my experience with them. In fact still to get my refund from them! Just hope other better operators make stuff available soon.
-
No, in my case just making 2 proper holes for the microphone and speaker solves the problem. I don't think you need to remove the cover/lamination.
-
It is *not* ok ...for the battery at least! I wouldnt be convinced to buy such an old handset ...even if it means looking for non-RIM options...
-
If this is true, I guess it would be especially bad for the battery life! Batt life countdown begins the day it is manufactured (even if unused)...
-
Everthing on the net is free??? Much of the good stuff is "pay" stuff, dude!
-
Network has improved big time in my area, after complaining to the Chairman's office! No more listening to those ten thousand leaving / entering service area messages all day. Well, it still does happen ...but very seldom now ...and late at night...
-
Guys, one more initiative from BSNL...
-
Have been using this service for quite some time now ...but since a month or so not a single SMS is reaching anybody! Any other Sancharnet users here have experienced this? The toll free helpline number (1957) is very seldom if ever even answered to. BSNL is the pits!
-
I second what anujit said. I'v been quite frustrated in the past by the IPB search. After that if I coudn't find something I wanted, Id just abort the idea ...rather than run those near useless searches...

To find out exactly which codec is required for a particular format, you can use GSpot Codec Information tool. After you determine exactly which codec is required, you can get it from say http://www.free-codecs.com and install it. It would be lot more worthwhile doing this if you only require a couple of codecs ...no point in downloading and installing whole "codec packs".
