  1. Lg Rd 2030 Emergency Charger

I'v seen chargers like with 9 v batts on ebay.in. Don't remember if they were for the RD2030 ...but its very likely...
  2. R-connect Is Available By Default

Know that the original Samsung phone (N191, I believe) is considered the best for R-Connect as it seems to give the best throughput. You should be able to find more info in other threads. Unfortunately, I dont think new handsets are available now, so you'll have to settle for a 2nd hand...
  3. Broad Band In Pune

What??? 2.3 Mbps??? When my rotten Hathway averages about 2.5 kBps??? Dude, Im going to have a HUGE problem believing that! And if its true (esp. at that price) I'd kill for it ...in fact I could even go on a serial killing spree for it!!! Worst thing is I'm stuck with Hathway for 6 months, as I'v paid them that much in advance to avoid installation charges. Complaints to anybody including the Manager yeild almost no response ...and my patience is wearing thin. Anyway, whats their address/number?
  4. Sms Character Limit Problem With Lg Rd 2130

As I had mentioned earlier, this problem exists for not just the RD2130; but all RIM phones (save perhaps the latest ones with LMS ...not sure if they have really solved the problem, though). Its just that the problem is more acute with the 2130 (since limit is 140 chars), because normally 160 characters is taken as 1 SMS. Now if someone using a GSM (which can send concatenated SMSes in significant multiples of that limit) sends a RIM phone an SMS, then that SMS is simply not delivered ...not even truncated! This is simply preposterous!! Well, be happy that you are at least getting the truncated messages! The least they should do is to split the GSM originated concatenated SMS into multiples of 160 and send it to the RIM phone! And this seems to me a network adjustment! I have made this suggestion twice to the Chairmans office ...and no response! The Customer care people had the gall to tell me that it is a GSM "problem"! And could any users here with the new LMS phones please tell us about their SMS experience?
  5. Anti-virus

If update size/time is a factor, consider Dr. Web! It has possibly he smallest updates ...and very fast too. Also it takes up unbelievably less RAM in comparision to the marketing heavyweights like Norton & McAfee. It has a DOS scanner too. It even works on my old 200 MHz 32 MB RAM machine! F-Prot scores in these areas too; but it has no incremental updates ...which is a pain.
  6. Switch Backlight Off When Using Rconnect In Rd6130

Lithium-Ion batts are not known to heat up while charging! Chances are that its the LEDs and/or something else that is causing the heating. In fact since the ph is being used for R-connect; its v likely its the usage itself thats causing heating...
  7. Its free? Its showing an M near upload and download options. 37593[/snapback] I rechecked ...and now its showing "M"!!! Argggg!!! But I swear it was "F" yesterday when I read this thread and uploaded my phone book.
  8. Very useful! Now I guess all phones without R-World will be at a disadvantage.. Whats more seems the service is free. Just uploaded my phone book ...and the menu is marked "F"! :'(
  9. Best 2.1 Music System

Whatever you buy dont ever buy Mercury (Kobian) products. I have a Mercury 2.1 system which failed within a couple days after it went out of warranty. Kobian India Service Center in Poona actually refuses to repair it ...even though Im ready to pay for it! Similar story with Mercury SMPS, etc. Creative & Altec should be good...
  10. Whats Ur 'frequency' ?

This is now required to be stated prominently on Rimweb: Statutory Warning: Too much Rimwebbing can be injurious to your health!
  11. Longhorn Becomes Windows Vista™

Quite true! There are many good tweaks which are useful ...but at the same time many which are simply bogus/useless ...and some which could be harmful! And this one sure seems suspicious ...IMHO. So use ur descretion at tweaking, guys! For those who dont know, as far as improving prefetch performace goes, just cleaning out the prefetch folder once in a while (more than that can have the reverse effect!) can improve performance. A very good free tool to clean out this and lot of other dross is CCleaner.
  12. Longhorn Becomes Windows Vista™

I'd agree with Anujit. Sure sounds fishy ...I woudlnt trust these tweaks unless they come from a v reliable source ...or if they make a lot of sense.
  13. Terrible Tuesday

Coming back to the topic ...I'v been speaking to a few friends of mine in Bombay ...and everyone seems to have variant observations! Some told me only BPL was working, someone else said only Airtel and another said MTNL....etc, etc. And this thread suggests that RIM was the least affected! Im amused! Mebbe it was area dependent...
  14. Terrible Tuesday

Dont even dream about it! We have enuf water here of our own! We aint intrested in getting flooded! Still my sympathies to you Bombaites...
  15. New LG RD 5330

Most importantly - does this phone support long (concatenated) SMSing like the new monochrome phone from LG does? Dont know about you guys, but Im not going to put up wit the 140/160 character SMS limit on the new phone that I buy ...would rather go GSM ...with much longer & way cheaper SMS tariffs.
  16. Broad Band In Pune

You said it ...India is still in the dark ages as far as net connectivity is concerned. Esp. a crying shame in Poona, which has so many software cos. R-connect may be reliable ...but 1,500/month is too expensive for home use. And 1 GB/month is way too less... They (Hathway) sent thieir technician again today morning with a new lame excuse - my firewall is obstructing their connection! Well, I told him, if it did, then It would never have connected even once - firewalls are not generally moody to allow connections sometime and not otherwise. Even then have tried unloading the firewall ...needless to say it still dosent connect/work!
  17. Broad Band In Pune

Guys, don't even touch Hathway. My connection was activated ...and has not worked satisfactorily for a single day! Right now my connection has been totally down for 15 days. This connection is not worth having at any price - something that simply dosent work isnt worth any price. Moreover they have the cheek to tell me that my comp is affected with a virus ...and is causing a problem in their network! Neetless to say there is nothing wrong on my comp ...in fact my comp is one of the most 'fortified' machines you can find ...and Im pretty paranoid about PC security. They even sent their (so called) techinician over to check ...and of course he couldnt find a thing ...in fact, to put it in a nutshell, he hardly seemed to know anything! Worst thing is Iv paid 6 months advance ...and will seek recourse to legal action if I dont get a refund very soon. Keep away from these swindlers. Anybody else here has Hathway???
  18. All about CDMA & GSM

Inderpalsing, on the surface CDMA is probably the better choice, but rather than worrying about that, you should consider other more important factors like tariffs, flexibility, customer support, etc, etc. And RIM certainly does not score well on most of these fronts! GSM currently has more competitive tariffs. GSM also affords more flexibility and more advanced handsets are available. And RIM highway coverage is poor; etc, etc...
  19. Broad Band In Pune

Did anybody here subscribe to Hathway??? Well, after like waiting for eternity for BSNLs Data one (no response from them even after repeated calls) I finally paid Hathway (64 Kbps, unlimited). Its 500/month + tax. Six months advance & no installation charges. I paid them on 7th June and was promised a connection within 7 days. They just installed the wire 2 days back, but the connection as such hasn't been activated yet! Problem with their 'back end', they say...
  20. Mobile Service In Delhi

I dont know about Delhi in particular ...but if SMSing is important, you are almost definitely going to regret getting RIM. First, you will have to deal with the 140/160 character limit. Second, no MMS from non RIM phones. Third, no concatenated SMSes. Forth, 'pictures', etc will look garbled... etc, etc, etc.
  21. Windows XP Problem

The M$ tool is not necessarily foolproof. If you have 2 (or more) DIMMS, try running your machine on just one for sometime. Actually, thats how I figured out the problem on my machine. The tool just confirmed it later...
  22. Guys, just do the thing which you most easily can - ditch RIM!
  23. Windows XP Problem

Chirag, for the rebooting problem, you should get suspicious of your RAM if everthing else seems fine. You can use this M$ tool. There are others ...probably better ones ...but don't have the names/links right now. You'll need to make a floppy disk or burn a CD and boot from it, to use it (you cant diag. RAM in Win environment). For more details, you can refer to the detailed tech literature on how it works ...its intresting. About your virus prob - NEVER rely on only 1 AV. And AVG is def. not the best. Try scanning with at least one more AV. Thats the simplest thing you can do for your prob. You can do lot of stuff on your other probs ...but I gotta run now. U'll find help if you look in the right place. And it wont be very straight forward!
  24. One nice thing we can do is ditch RIM! RIM is obviously delaying the change so they can fatten their coffers at our expense as long as possible... Not only this issue, but GSM tariffs are now significantly cheaper than RIM! Idea (Mah. circle) is offering Idea to Idea @ 75p ...and MUCH cheaper SMSes. Am gonna ditch REAL soon, if thinks dont change REAL soon!!
  25. Unlimited Internet With Rs.440rcv

Spookie, you just certified your newbie-to-cellphones status! Anyway, as far as a comparision goes, I believe the 5130's ringtones have better clarity than the RD 2030s. The RD 2030's ringtones have a distinct "blurryness". They are FAR from sharp! Even the monochrome Samsung handset (I forget the model no.) has distinctly better ringtone quality then the RD 2030. Please check stuff out for yourself before you convince yourself in a hurry like this...
