Are you sure its 160 chars for both incoming and outgoing? Anyway, either way its insufficient!
-
Yes, you are right ...it is 15 mins and not 10. 5 mins would of course be better for saving power ...but since phone will check if its being paged much less frequently in power saving mode, you might miss a call when you are moving in area where there is fringe coverage...
-
If there is no signal you should see the no signal icon and the phone should go in power saving mode ...i think in about 10 mins.
-
Thats wied ...you should certainly be able to access other functions like addr. book, etc ...within or outside coverage area. At least I can. You should take it to an LG service station...

Don't upper end phones have the same problem??? LoL ...in fact the good old RD 2030 at least has 160 char capacity (incoming & outgoing) ...seems no other RIM phone has even that much! They actually seem to be going retro... Worst thing is that if someone sends you an SMS beyond 140 (or 160, depending on handset model) characters, it simply wont reach you! No truncated SMS or SMS in parts!! This is preposterous!!!
-
But thats what Im saying - RIM coverage was quite ok in that (Lonavala) area! Between Bombay and Poona (road) there were some small patches where there was zero coverage though... RIM really needs to work on its highway coverage ...esp. since city coverage is so good. Which GSM operator are you talking about?
-
In continuation of my post above ...just checked out my friend's Motorola C200 (GSM) on Idea - it can handle SMSes of upto 750 characters or so! And thats a phone which costs around 2,500 - 3,000 bucks!! So we aren't talking about upper-end phones or Nokias only... And look what we RIM users get - a measly 140 characters!
-
You can send SMSes to most Airtel numbers from Yahoo! messenger.
-
Please read what Iv written again mate ...before blurting on my alleged blurt outs! Nowhere have I mentioned that you wont get charged for longer SMSes!! I am well aware of that ...but let me also add, since most GSM ops are charging around 25/30 paise per SMS (if you take their SMS package) a much longer SMS will cost same or less than one sent from a RIM. And Munnamobile, I dont think you need "advanced" or upper end handsets for using longer SMSes on GSM phones. Even the Motorola C200 can send and recieve SMSes several hundred characters long! And C200 is one of the most basic GSM handsets ...and one of the cheapest!
-
No use having other "high tech" stuff when you don't have the basics right! SMS is basic ...& v popular in India ...& GSM users get upto 1,000 characters. Can't understand why RIM dosen't understand!
-
Wow ...finally an exch. scheme ...and for pre paid users too! Do they let you keep your number? Feel soooo tempted to upgrade my staid RD2030 ...but no ways want to live with that 140/160 character SMS limit! Not to mention their exhorbitant SMS tariffs!! Might as well shift to a GSM. At this rate SMSers are going to stay away from RIMS ...no matter how many models they release!!!
-
Don't know about other places but had been to Lonavala and whereabouts recently ...and did get coverage there! City coverage in Poona is quite good too.

Just upgrading RAM wont help much ...1st find out whats cluttering up ur RAM! Uninstall applications which are hogging up your RAM. Windows can load lots of things at start up which you dont always need. Some applications like anti virus, firewalls, etc can also hog a lot of RAM. 256 MB RAM is ok for normal use. In fact for Win 98, you probably shouldn't install more. XP would be able to utilise more RAM much better ...but the difference wont be too much ...esp. for normal use. There are lot of other things you can do like tweaking BIOS, etc, etc ...but that will take some doing...

Ctrlaltdel, Gtran bugs are legend on Rimweb ...dont know how u missed them! Anyway Gtran is replete with SMS bugs, poor R-World support, very poor battrey life, etc, etc. You can find plenty of details if you search Rimweb. Dont be in a hurry to buy any handset ...if you dont want to repent later! You can check reviews on dozens of mobiles on Mouthshut too. New models released obviously may not have reviews yet ...but if your are like me, you'd much rather wait a bit rather than tear your hair out after buying a buggy handset!
-
If you are a heavy R World user, charging the batt while you surf should actually give your batt longer life!

Try adjusting the Daylight Saving Time!

Linuxguy, read the post above carefully - as of now this offer is for Delhi only.

I dont understand ...guys, if they don't want to give a live working demo, why do you want to buy the phone??? When I went to get my RD2030 at a WW about a year back they tried the same with me ...I just said no live demo = no deal! Simple!! I could always go for a GSM. And they quickly gave me demos of all available ...and even unavailable models (like the Samsung b/w)! And then too I wasnt paying a dime as down payment as I was taking it in the shareholder's scheme... Always beware before the purchse ...no use crying foul after buying! RIM is not bullying us into buying, is it?

RIM is going to make us bald real soon... Then Reliance can get into the Minoxidil business...
-
"It works both ways fine"? You mean you get a delivery conf. report even when you send messages FROM Reliance TO Tata? Really strange why it shouldnt work here...
-
Prabhakar, it would really help if you give at least a small description of what those sites are about...
-
Setting individual delivery reports for each msg is another grudge I have against my RD 2030. If a way can be found to toggle it permanently, it would be a blessing! Chirag, are you sure about the "CALL" button thingy? I just tried what you said but pressing the call button anywhere just makes the cell dial a voice call...
-
There are many other things you could try. But 1st you should try reinstalling, as I suggested earlier. Try cleaning out ur registry ...if you are using 98 (not too sure about XP) you can use scanreg (with switches) ...specialised software tools to do that would be more effective though. You could also get into the registry and do some cleaning manually...

Installing Rconnect Without Dialer S/w, Cd &...

It dosent work like that! Modems are not like IC engines ...actually even IC engines ...surprisingly those which run longer generally last longer! So the 'logic' isnt so 'linear'... -
Well, at least you got them ...even if its after a day or two ...Iv never got any ...ever! But yes, most of the msgs did get thru.
