Anybody used this? Just tried ordering a book and its giving me much lesser than 50% off. Or do they include the discount % offered without the use of the coupon? This aside, anybody has any experience in buying stuff (esp. books) from them?- 6,376 replies

But why would they want all that? Did you ask? He should become an entrepreneur and launch a new Deals Search Engine. Who knows it will become the next success story after FB.- 6,376 replies

Had a similar experience with Infibeam. Had ordered 2 rare books which were to be procured from the US. So delivery time was some 20 - 25 days something, but they took MONTHS to deliver it! The excuse given was that the parcels are stuck with US customs. However, they were rare books and at a good price. They were 2nd hand, but as promised, they were in pretty good condition. Worst thing was they never replied to any of my emails and I had to keep making STD calls to their customer service. Twice they gave false timelines for delivery. Also experienced delays with NBCIndia - around 2 - 5 days. Not too bad, but then they shouldn't promise shorter delivery times. The worst thing about them is the website, (esp. the earch engine) - it plain sux. The fastest delivery times I'v experienced by far is probably Crossword. Also the packing was amongst the best I'v seen... with bubble wrap and all. Packing is really important, as otherwise there is additional risk of damage by the courier company... and I can't stand damaged books. A close 2nd would be Landmark. However, their packing was nowhere close though books were luckily undamaged. Unfortunately, both have very limited catlogues. The overall best is of course Flipkart. Except for slightly longer delivery times compared to Crossword, they win on every count, esp. really good customer service. However, their prices are not always the best.

I am well aware of that dude. But one expects the bigger brands to have better quality control. Smaller no-name Chinese companies that sell to Indian brands who do sticker jobs are more suspect. Pretty much like buying a "branded" phone made in China and a re-branded made in China phone from Intex, Onida, Beetel, Videocon, and the like.- 6,376 replies

PGP Portal - Telecom Related Complaints & Resolution
raccoon replied to rajanmehta's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
Forgot to mention - Received few unsolicited text messages on my RGSM despite being registered for DND. Sent them to CC and later also to Service Assurance Cell. Got a SMS several days later saying no such spam was received by me according to their records and they closed the complaint. As per my past experience, Nodal and Appellate auth. do not exist at least for Mah circle. So did not bother with them and made a complaint to PG Portal that RCom is deliberately ignoring complaints about spam SMSes. No response from anywhere for over a month now. Yes, RCom service seems to be declining further. With Idea all DND complaints are immediately acknowledged with complaint number and after stipulated time, representative personally calls to inform about action taken. Never need to go beyond email to CC. -

Haven't use one myself so won't comment conclusively.. (Particularly to match with your rigorous standards... Lolz Just Joking...). Bufallo is major brand in US, Other Asian Countries. But Buffallo, Transcend et all would be very similar in hardware aspect in Economy range. None of them manufacture HDD's... All use HDD from one or the other few HDD manufacturer like Seagate, Samsung, WD, Hitachi etc. Also in this economy range its a Commodity Market out there and not much to differentiate between HDD's also as the technology has matured a lot. All HDD will be having very similar specs & performance & reliability record.. They try to differentiate with the bundled software, quality, shine & shape of the enclosure which i don't care much about. So my mantra, leaving aside those chinese unbranded hdd enclosures, For the Economy Segment, one can go for the cheapest ones among the branded & known without much concern. (Unless one is able to find out some great hidden jewel..) Enterprise Class Drives like Scorpio from WD is another ballgame alltogether. Thanks, that was kinda reassuring. In fact i was wondering if all these companies even made HDDs or its re branded stuff. Personally, I'v not had a great experience with Samsung drives. But That was few years ago. Dunno if they have improved now. Seagates have been good to me. Anyway, had almost decided to make the purchase, but due to unavoidable reasons, could not get online again before midnight that day, so missed the offer. After our experience with Onida CRT TV, I'd not recommend Onida as a brand to anyone, anymore. Even build quality of their stuff is not upto the mark. Sometime ago, was in the market for a microwave oven, and Onida caught my eye as they have some really attractive stuff. However, a closer look at the build quality made me quickly change my mind. The shop-keeper confirmed that its all sourced from China but probably made by "grade A" Chinese companies" (if I recall correctly). Well, the products did not come anywhere close to my definition of "Grade A" anyway. I'm pretty sure its the same case with their LCDs. Their CRT TVs in the past used to be really durable though. I'v known people using them since a decade or so. I guess they weren't made in China, lolz!- 6,376 replies

PGP Portal - Telecom Related Complaints & Resolution
raccoon replied to rajanmehta's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
@Rajan, your comments seem to be based on just one complaint. I have made multiple complaints against all the operators I have used, except probably Idea. My experiences have been a mixed bag. I have already mentioned some of them in other threads. You have rightly observed: It is my speculation that "something else" may be "statistics" Probably there are adverse effects for a telco when it tops the list of complaints/unresolved issues. I have observed that while "smaller" individual based complaints are resolved, the larger ones remain. For eg. the issue of AirHELL openly looting all customers by charging base tariff even when calling in Happy Hours. This was being openly done untill I stopped using AirHELL. I won't be one bit surprised if this looting continues till date. No matter how hard I tried, including calling up the Director of the PG cell, nothing at all came of that complaint (nor of some other compalints against AirHELL in particular). Probably they have calculated that the loss that will be suffered by them (AirHELL) by ceasing to loot all their hapless subscribers will be far, far more than the adverse statistic of my unresolved complaint. The PG cell openly expressed their inablity to do a thing about it either. So thats my observation and what I might called "informed guesswork" regarding the matter. If anybody has some better guesswork, I'd be more than glad to hear it. -
Without camera? Doubt that will happen. I have seen many Chinese origin phones including Micromax with downright unusable cameras. Yet these companies put them there; probably just to make the specs look good. Why don't they just save the money and reduce the price or provide some other feature that is actually usable?

Unbelievable is the word! The figures about RCom just do not seem believable. Even amongst all the people in my address book, there must be barely couple of RCom numbers. From where are they conjuring up all these subscribers with their pathetic GSM network? And I seriously doubt CDMA has so many takers. -

BlackBerry, Skype, Gmail and now 3G come under the scanner of Indian Government
raccoon replied to faizone's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
Today's Indian Express carried this article from the NYT. The IE however does not carry the full article which is posted below from the NYT site. Not sure if this is the right place to post this, since it has nothing to do with BB or Skype, directly, but is related to the issue of govt. snooping, privacy, etc. Mods. may please move it to the appropriate thread, if desirable. -
BlackBerry, Skype, Gmail and now 3G come under the scanner of Indian Government
raccoon replied to faizone's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
Exactly. Most likely they already know this and are just using it as a pretext to pry into everybody's lives for reasons that are more than obvious. Plus it looks good in the eyes of well meaning simpletons who still believe that the govt. is just doing it in their own interest, for security and blah, blah... What is happening is that a HUGE amount of tax payer's money is going to spent on equipment, manpower, etc., to spy on the tax payer himself and will be used for all the wrong reasons by the govt. or possibly its employees... -

Why don't you ask them (Letsbuy) about the bill and warranty. Since the drives are reportedly of poor build quality, suggesting overall poor quality, you may well have to use the warranty.- 6,376 replies
