Reliance Communications launches Facebook Messenger Plan at Rs.16/month for GSM
csmart replied to Nirvana's topic in Miscellaneous
There is one more plan where you bet unlimited whatsapp with m.facebook.com browsing for Rs 16/- but problem is that even though this plan is active, you are charged for net usage at normal rate. You have fight with RCOM to get the refund. there is some issue with their back end. Also other problem is that when you have android phone, it keeps syncing your device with gmail and hence net used. but users rarely realise this. -
TRAI ordered MTS to inform their subscribers about the closure of service

They are advertising for their USB stick on TV and too quite aggressively. No idea what is going to happen. But one thing is sure, they will not loose their money because of bilateral treaty with Russian govt. -
Ported my number from RCDMA to Vodafone (GSM). Reasons for Porting - Major reason handset and EVDO speed. The handset I got at really excellent price. Will update that later. Grievances with existing Service provider - Even after many complains nothing was done. Even while offering me retention, they said they will look in to matter but nothing was done. Benefits that I see of the new service provider - Better handset. I don;t think there is any other benefit. Porting Experience - This will be in two part. Part One - RCDMA to RGSM First, I tried to port from CDMA to RGSM due its UNLIMITED1299 plan and was perfect for me. It was based on my existing CDMA bill. I first generated UPC code on 15th November 2012 and approached WEb Sotre at Opera House in Mumbai. They were very cordial and initially very helpful. The executive checked the form and papers and informed that application form should be in personal name and not in company name. I used to get bill in company name. Anyway, resubmitted the form in personal name. He gave SIM card and informed that it will be done in max 7 days time. But requested to inquire back again 2-3 days time. My peon again visited after 3 days or so. Again same reply from the him. Again after 2-3 days my peon visited and informed that the form should be company name and not in personal and also told that since only few days left, it cannot be converted. The executive was really apologetic and fell for it. Any way, after expiry of the UPC on 1st December 2012, I again generated new one. This time I sent the peon with all the papers and form in name of company. The executive said nice and will be done in 7 days and gave another SIM. He assured me not to worry this time. I was continuously following on 198 about the status and learn that nothing was done even after a week of application. I sent my peon and found that the executive had not even bothered to check the form. He returned the form and said it should be personal name. My peon was really pissed off and fought with the guy. I was . I was sure that these guys are not going to do anything and I was chasing idiots. I also send mail to Appellate authority only to learn that it was one who I had mad mistake by not submitting proper documents and also Appellate Authority was unable to reach me as my phone was not reachable. This is for the probably 1st time I hear from someone as my phoen is on 24x7. By the time I get reply from Appellate, I had already applied for Vodafone. Part2; RCDMA to Vodafone: Documents submitted on 10th December 2012 Porting completed on 20th December 2012 After the mess from RCOm, I decided this is enough and it is sheer waste of time and energy.Too late to realise.. Anyway, i submitted the documents and wanted to also change the user details and company details. I asked my peon to visit the Vodafone Mini Store, across the road, and he was knowing guys there. THey just aksed for my ID proof and residential proof and signature on filled form. They told me that it will take anywhere between 7 to 10 days. Vodafone executive charged Rs 20 for SIM and it had Rs 5 talk time. I inquired with RCOM what is the status of my port request on 15th December 2012 and was informed that they have already approved on 14th. I was worried whehter I will be able port out or not as UPC was expiring on 17th. My peon asked Vodafone executive and informed that not to worry till 21st. I got an SMS from Vodafone on 19th December at 8:00PM stating that my port request has been accepted and they will soon inform me about when my Vodafone service will start. However no further communication either from RCOM or Vodafone. In the morning my RCOM services were disconnected and Vodafone said that it not operational due to "operation" issues. I called up CC and he told me to dial 117 from handset. I dialed it he took down basic info like name address etc and said service will start in max 2 hours. I got SMS within few minutes and service started. Vodafone has offered me V2V at 10p/min, local at 30p/min and STD 40/min for 3 months. After that I have to change my plan. This is promotional offer only. Any other important comment- These are the same guys from RCOM web store who had earlier helped me. But this time, they were not even interested and RCOM CAF is pathetic. I was really baning my head with RCOM and feel like . But there was no help from RCOM. Vodafone was much better and smoother. Other point that lead to this decision was that slowly loosing benefit of getting exclusive CDMA handsets at cheaper price.

Samsung unveiled the Samsung GALAXY Grand Source Samsung unveiled the Samsung GALAXY Grand, an ideal smartphone for users with fast-paced mobile lifestyles who demand more from their phone. Samsung GALAXY Grand runs Android 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean), Google’s latest operating system. Its vivid 5.0’’ display provides an expansive viewing experience, presenting messaging, multimedia and Web content in brilliant color and clarity. Even with the large screen, the phone is still slim, ergonomic and comfortable to hold. You can also enjoy true multitasking running multiple apps simultaneously and without switching screens using Multi Window feature. GALAXY Grand with an impressive 1.2 GHz Dual Core processor supports seamless multitasking, faster web browsing, lightning-fast screen transitions and superior graphics for some of the most demanding apps and games. The GALAXY Grand sports a powerful camera with zero shutter-lag and ultra-quick camera start-up. It includes a backside illumination sensor to ensure clear shots even in dark conditions, as well as Full HD video recording. Samsung GALAXY Grand also includes intuitive features that make the phone easy to use. For example, Direct Call enables users to automatically dial a call by raising the device up to the ear; while users can also shake the phone to trigger status updates, or pan it to zoom into a screen. Smart Alert shows missed events such as missed calls and new messages just by picking up the phone. Popup Video, for example, lets users watch video in a pop-up window anywhere on the screen while running other tasks; S Voice lets you control the phone using your voice; and AllShare Play lets you share content across Samsung devices using a single account. The phone is pre-loaded with the latest versions of Samsung Hubs to deliver the most popular games, movies and music direct to the user on demand. The GALAXY Grand will be available in two versions – The Dual SIM version (GT-I9082) will launch first and the single SIM version (GT-I9080) will follow. For the dual SIM version, its innovative dual SIM feature provides total communication flexibility, allowing users to manage two phone numbers from a single phone. It is possible to receive calls on one SIM number while taking a call from the other, ensuring efficient management of personal and work commitments without ever missing a call. Dual SIM also offers the flexibility of selecting different billing plans for either SIM, switching between them to make the most of cheaper call and data plans. -
I need suggestions from fellow members on which service to use while travelling abroad. I am planning to visit China and want to know which service to use. Matrix (charges $5 for outgoing $3 incoming) Clay - similar to matrix (incoming-$5 outgoing-$1) Reliance Wolrd SIM - (incoing Rs 40 outgoing Rs 60) Using existing RCDMA/RGSM or other service provider number buying local SIM Reliance tariff for postpaid CDMA - Rs 19/- local calls and India calls Rs 60 GSM - Rs 28 and Rs 49 Above rates excludes service tax 15% and foreign exchange fluctuations. I think word SIM could be cheaper.

The judge has denied to ban the sale of Samsung phones citing that these phones have many more features than those infringed. The infringed featuers are just small part of overall device. Source
-
Frankly speaking, I found that all matrix, Clear or such operators are expensive. It is always better to get the local SIM which much cheaper compare these companies. You can easily get local SIMs. The only benefit of these cos is that you know the number before hand rather than informing everybody after getting there. For talking with your relatives back home, ask them to call using Reliance Global calling. They have an app for iOS and android and many phones can use same account. I've used this many times. My trip to China in April last year and also recently when my bro was in Turkey and Dubai.

iPhone infringes on patents from MobileMedia, jury rules Source Ruling finds that Apple violated three patents from MobileMedia, a holding company jointly owned by Sony, Nokia, and MPEG LA. Apple has lost a few rounds in a courtroom case pitting it against patent holder MobileMedia. A U.S. court ruled today that the iPhone infringes on three patents held by MobileMedia, a spokesperson for the patent holder told CNET. One of the patents, No. 6,427,078, refers to a camera phone technology, according to the spokesperson. The other two patents, No. 6,253,075 and No. 6,070,068, deal with call handling. A document of the verdict posted on Scribd shows the jury found that Apple directly infringed on the three patents in question. The jury also ruled against Apple's attempt to have the patent claims rendered invalid. The jury trial kicked off just last month in a case in which Apple was accused of violating patents held by MobileMedia, a company jointly owned by Sony, Nokia, and a Denver-based outfit called MPEG LA, which licenses patents for the MPEG standards. MobileMedia holds about 300 patents, mostly from Sony and Nokia, that can apply to just about any electronic device, including smartphones, PCs, cameras, and game consoles. The company launched its suit against Apple in July 2010, alleging that 18 of its patents were violated.

MTNL will be the best and they have improved a lot. Now they have introduced Fiber to Home where speed is as high as 20mbps... Check this link I doubt if you get unlimited with that budget. there will be FUP and speed will be lower after certain amount of download. I am using MTNL at my home for last 6 months or so and very satisfied. I am using Xpress Combo 600 plan it meets my requirements.

The family is growing: Nokia Lumia 620 Published by Ian Delaney on December 5, 2012 Source Today we’re pleased to introduce the Nokia Lumia 620, our third and most affordable Windows Phone 8 smartphone. Nokia Lumia 620 Networks: WCDMA 850/900/1900/2100 GSM/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 Display: 3.8” TFT WVGA 800×480, ClearBlack Memory: 512MB RAM (8GB internal memory, Micro SD support up to 64GB) Camera: 5Mpix autofocus, LED flash; Video capture: HD 720p@30fps; VGA front camera Size & weight: 115.4 x 61.1 x 11.02 mm; 127g (including battery) Connectivity: NFC, WLAN 802.11 a/b/g/n 2.4Ghz + 5Ghz, Bluetooth 3.0, GPS/A-GPS, Glonass, micro-USB, 3.5mm audio connector (AHJ + WP Controls) Processor: 1 GHz Dual Core Snapdragon ™ S4 Battery Talk time: (GSM/WCDMA) Up to 14.6 h/ up to 9.9 h; Standby time: Up to 330 h Alongside the flagship Nokia Lumia 920and midrange Nokia Lumia 820, the Nokia Lumia 620 adds more youthful appeal to our Windows Phone 8 range. Compact and fun, it takes advantage of a new ‘dual-shot’ technique to create a variety of interesting new colours and textures. Dual Shot involves casting two layers of polycarbonate, a single base layer and a second colour, in a transparent or translucent layer, to produce depth effects and secondary colour blends. For example, yellow and cyan are combined to produce an exciting new lime green, our own favourite. What’s more, since the Nokia Lumia 620 uses exchangeable shells, you can change the colour as often as you change your mood with seven shells to choose from. While this may be the most affordable of our three new Windows Phone 8 smartphones, it packs a punch. The 3.8-inch display has the same sunlight readability enhancements as the Nokia Lumia 920 and Nokia Lumia 820, so you should be able to see what’s on the screen however sunny your surroundings (not a problem for those of us in Finland right now). It also takes advantage of the sameNokia exclusive camera lenses, like Cinemagraph and Smart Shoot, transforming the creative power of the 5-megapixel camera and front-facing VGA camera. Of course it also has the world’s best mapping and location experience, based on the Here platform, with Nokia Maps, Nokia Drive and Nokia City Lens all available. Of course, with the emphasis on a younger audience, it also has Nokia Music, providing free streaming of ad-free tracks with no subscription or registration required and the ability to download playlists to listen offline. With NFC connectivity, you can easily pair the Nokia Lumia 620 with one of the greatspeakers from JBL, such as the JBL PlayUp Portable for Nokia, to set your music free. Or if you want to avoid upsetting everyone on the bus, try the Nokia Purity Pro Stereo Headset by Monster for professional audio sounds on the move. Finally, this is Windows Phone 8, so the Nokia Lumia 620 comes with Live Tiles for updates direct to the Start Screen, PeopleHub for all your address books in one place and a Me Tile to make it easy to post and track notifications across social networks. With Xbox Live, Microsoft Office, 7GB of SkyDrive storage and faster, safer surfing with Internet Explorer 10, it’s hard to know what to do first. You might want to start with Angry Birds Star Wars or Words with Friends – just a suggestion. Excluding any local taxes or operator subsidies, the Nokia Lumia 620will cost around $249 USD and will be available from Q1 2013. -
Cheers for iPhone/iPad/iPod users. iTunes is now available in India to buy music, rent/buy movies in INR. The songs are priced from as low as Rs 7 to high at Rs 15. you can even rent or buy SD/HD movies. Source

Rumor: Facebook in Talks to Acquire WhatsApp Messenger Source Facebook is reportedly in talks to acquire multi-platform messaging app WhatsApp, according to TechCrunch. Citing sources close to the matter, the site reported yesterday that the deal could help further Facebook's already grand mobile standing, as well as push the social network further into international markets. A Facebook spokeswoman declined to comment on rumor and speculation. During a post-IPO appearance at TechCrunch Disrupt in September, Zuckerberg said the company's efforts on mobile will likely help bolster Facebook in the years to come. "I think it's easy for a lot of folks ... to really underestimate how fundamentally good mobile is for us," Zuckerberg said at the time. By mid-August, WhatsApp hit a new daily record of 10 billion total messages a day — 4 billion inbound and 6 billion outbound. That was up from 1 billion at the end of October 2011. "Just how much is 1 billion messages?" the company wrote in a blog post. "That is 41,666,667 messages an hour, 694,444 messages a minute, and 11,574 messages a second." WhatsApp is available to owners of Android, iOS, BlackBerry, Nokia S40, Symbian, and Windows Phone devices. The 99-cent app allows users to exchange messages without a paid SMS plan, by using the same data plan on which emails and Web browsing run. The app's founders proudly stand behind the decision to not sell in-app ads, which TechCrunch said could be a selling point during acquisition talks, thanks to Facebook's recent move to feature more prominent advertising. According to the site, terms of the alleged agreement and other details have not been revealed. WhatsApp did not immediately respond to PCMag's request for comment. Whatsapp is available for download via various app stores, or through the start-up's website.
