After 5 years, Apple's iPhone has generated $150B in revenue Source This week marks the fifth anniversary of the launch of the first iPhone. Since then, Apple's smartphone is estimated to have generated the company $150 billion of cumulative revenues worldwide. The first iPhone officially launched on June 29, 2007, making this Friday the official five-year anniversary. Recognizing the milestone, Strategy Analytics on Wednesday offered its latest statistics, noting that Apple has shipped 250 million iPhones cumulatively worldwide, generating $150 billion in cumulative revenues. "The iPhone portfolio has become a huge generator of cash and profit for Apple," said Neil Mawston, executive director at Strategy Analytics. "A quarter of a billion iPhones have been shipped cumulatively worldwide in the first five years since launch and Apple reaches its fifth birthday at the top of its game." While the first five years of the iPhone have been an undeniable success for Apple, propelling the company to become the largest in the world by market capitalization. But Mawston said the next five years could be more difficult for Apple, as the competition improves and some mobile operators become concerned about subsidies spent on the iPhone. Currently, the iPhone is so popular that Apple sells more handsets per day than there are babies born in the world, according to VoucherCodes.co.uk. The retail outlet also noted that since the release of the iPhone, Apple's worldwide brand ranking has catapulted from 44th place to No. 1. iPhone anniversary infographic via VoucherCodes. The first iPhone was introduced in early 2007 by Apple co-founder Steve Jobs as three devices in one: a "revolutionary mobile phone," a "widescreen iPod," and a "breakthrough Internet communications device." Since then, the iPhone's upward trajectory has been consistent, as Apple continues to deliver record breaking quarters and sales continue to grow. In the last quarter alone, Apple shipped 35.1 million iPhones, helping to propel the company to the 250 million milestone that Strategy Analytics believes the company has crossed ahead of the iPhone's five-year anniversary. In its last quarterly earnings conference call, Apple executives announced that more than 360 million iOS devices, including the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, had been sold to date.

Samsung Galaxy S3: 'Burned Up' Incident in Ireland to Spoil S3's Release Date? Source A day before the Samsung Galaxy S3 debut in the U.S, a Dubliner posted high-definition pictures of a burnt Samsung Galaxy S3 claiming it not only suddenly went on fire but ended up popping with a "bang" sound. Samsung on the other hand has announced it would look into the incident by means of an investigation and posted on its blog that it would provide further details on the situation. There have been recent online posts displaying pictures of a Samsung GALAXY SIII that appears to have heat-related damage at the bottom of the device. Samsung is aware of this issue and will begin investigating as soon as we receive the specific product in question. Once the investigation is complete, we will be able to provide further details on the situation. We are committed to providing our customers with the safest products possible and are looking at this seriously. According to the information provided by the online forum, the blogger "dillo2k10" who posted the photos is a registered user since January 2010. He has had more than 1,303 posts so far and does look like a legit user based on his profile page. dillo2k10 states that after the phone went burning the device continued to work but without any signal. He then returned the phone and was ultimately contacted by Samsung's head customer service representative who gave him a replacement phone and told him he would also be getting free stuff as well. As suspicious as it may sound, the Latinos Post leaves it up to the readers to judge what the pictures do represent. Pictures are found on the following link: click here. In the U.S., excitement for the Samsung Galaxy S3 release continues on strong and so far no story, other than the delivery delay announcements from carriers, have conceivably spoiled the device's debut day, including this 'burned up' incident.

Congrats hetal. I think you can use silicon cover or something to project the camera lens. I hate non removable battery and this is the case with the most One series handsets. You did not mentioned about battery life.

It is rumored that Microsoft may by Nokia. Currently, Nokia shares are below their book value and it is struggling to stay afloat. But I think, MS made mistake by not considering Palm. If they are interested, then the RIM (Blackberry) will be better choice.

The main idea of splitting any co is to get fast cash. When a co is struggling this is the only way they can get huge cash without any efforts. Coming back to topic, Nokia made blunder by opting for Windows. Every body who is race for smart phone OS, made mistake by let going Palm. It was appreciated by critics and users. But now it is no where in picture. I still feel if MS buys nokia, it will be blunder. Rather it should go for BB.

2G Scam: Supreme Court Quashes 122 Licences issued in 2008

RCOM moved court seeking government undertake auction after setting aside airwaves for the company Source: Economic Times NEW DELHI: Reliance Communications (RCOM) has moved a Delhi court seeking that the government undertake spectrum auction only after setting aside airwaves for the company. The Anil Ambani promoted telco, in its petition before the telecom tribunal ( TDSAT), has said that government must award the company an additional 1.8 MHz of airwaves across the country at no additional cost before carrying out the airwaves sale. The telco's petition may derail the Centre's attempt to complete the spectrum auction by August 31 as mandated by the Supreme Court. The tribunal on Monday accepted RCOM's petition and has asked the telecom department to file its reply. Last week, a panel of ministers headed by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee decided to sell up to 13.75 MHz of spectrum in the 1800 MHz band in the upcoming auctions, raising the possibility of two mobile phone companies winning back their cancelled permits. The Supreme Court had quashed licences of nine operators in February and directed the government to issue fresh permits through an auction process. In 2007, RCOM had obtained a dual technology permit that allowed it to provide GSM-based services along with its existing CDMA offerings. The telco had paid Rs 1659 crore for its permit that was slated to come bundled with 6.2 MHz of airwaves in the 1800 MHz band, but the company was given only 4.4 MHz or units of airwaves. "RCOM has filed petition seeking protection and enforcement of its contractual rights for allocation of the balance of the contracted Spectrum. It has sought that the telecom department (DoT) fulfill its contractual obligations by allocating / earmarking to RCOM the balance of the contracted spectrum before proceeding with the auction process. It is well known that spectrum upto 6.2 MHz was given as a startup spectrum to a number of GSM operators that too in more valuable 900 MHz as against 1800 MHz band," an executive aware of the development said. Following the cancellation of licenecs, sector regulator Trai had recommended that each unit of airwaves in the 1800 MHz be sold for minimum price of Rs 3,622 crore at the pan-India level, a 13-fold increase from the 2007-08 price. The regulator had also proposed that dual technology companies such as RCOM and Tata Teleservices could be given an additional 1.8 MHz of airwaves without taking part in the auctions, provided they matched the highest bid in the sale process. At the price prescribed by Trai, RCOM will have to pay over Rs 5,000 crore for an additional 1.8 MHz of airwaves on a pan-India basis. But, the telecom commission (TC), the highest decision making body of the DoT, had rejected Trai's proposal and said that dual technology companies must obtain airwaves beyond 4.4 MHz through the auction route. The Pranab Mukhjerjee headed EGoM will take a final call on this issue. -
Over 900,000 Android Devices Activated Every Day, Says Google's Rubin By Mikael Ricknäs, IDG News Jun 11, 2012 5:40 pm Source Android continues to grow, with over 900,000 devices based on the OS now being activated every day, according to Andy Rubin, who heads up development of the smartphone operating system at Google. That figure compares to around 500,000 devices per day at the end of June last year, and 850,000 per day at the end of February, according to Twitter messages from Rubin, who didn't elaborate on the split between smartphones, tablets and other device types. First-quarter shipments of Android smartphones were up 145 percent on a year earlier, giving the OS, a global smartphone market share of 59 percent, according to IDC, which keeps track of units sold to the channel as opposed to devices activated by users. However, all is not well in the Android camp. Last week, High Tech Computer (HTC) lowered its expected revenue for the second quarter due to lower-than-anticipated sales to Europe, and the delayed shipment and launch of certain products in the U.S., the company said. Along with HTC, Sony Mobile, LG Electronics and Google-owned Motorola Mobility are all trying to find their place in a smartphone world increasingly dominated by Samsung Electronics and Apple. Most of the growth, though, will happen in the market for cheap smartphones where the likes of ZTE and Huawei Technologies are pushing down prices. These new entrants are expecting lower profit margins, said Richard Kramer, managing partner at Arete Research, in a keynote speech during the recent Open Mobile Summit conference in London. Smartphone sales will total between 750 million and 800 million units, or over US$230 billion by value during 2012, according to Kramer. However, Apple, Samsung Electronics and HTC are the only vendors making money, he said at the time. Google's Android will still be the king of smartphone operating system's in 2016, but its market share will erode as Windows Phone takes off, according to a report from market research company IDC. By the end of 2012, Android's smartphone market share will be 61 percent, but in four years its share will have dropped to about 53 percent, according to IDC.

Imported CDMA Handsets - Is It Worth The Efforts?
csmart replied to ::: VA :::'s topic in The Lounge
Even I was in same dilemma initially. I would say about 4 years ago when I first bought HTC Touch 6900. After that, I bought many handsets from the forum members and there was never any problem. All the queries were handled by the seller. I never had trouble of registering MEID, starting EVDO, porting number to new handset etc. The seller would handle it all. I've purchased about 12 phones from 3 different sellers of the forum. Never ever had a problem. Unfortunately, none of the CDMA operators are getting phones that we really like. So this forum provides a platform where we can enjoy the best phones out there. Just imagine, without this forum, using iPhone or Droids or Epics on Reliance or Tata. I agree at times you face problem but then according to me, that can be considered as "trade-off". I've also seen people buying from ebay and they dont know how to get MIED registered and face problem. I always purchase from reputed seller on the forum and hence assured that there will not be any problem. I agree with VA that GSM is hassle free and for average users it does not make any difference be it GSM or CDMA. But I use RCDMA as it is the only cost effective currently. My entire family is on GSM and they are ripped off while roaming. I also enjoy the "different", never seen handsets that are available on the forum. -
Toshiba Dell Lenovo Acer (value for money) Now many are using Samsung, but I personally don't have experience. Sony is expensive. Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk

@bhumka for laptop in Mumbai, you can try at Lamington Road. There you will get the best deal and also need to bargain really hard. For specs, i3 or i5 with 8GB RAM with graphic card. Graphic card required as you need to watch movie. 35k is decent budget and you will get many options.

NO you will not. However if you are flashing CM9, then you need to add to text files which are already mentioned in this thread. I have used different ROMs and found no problem.

O2 and Vodafonein UK tie up to share infrastructure. They this will help them to reduce cost, remove unnecessary base station sites and other hardware. This will help them to provide LTE to 98% of UK in few years. It seems good logic as both cos will save a lot. But what will happen when they part ways. Read more here...
