Today I came across an article on cnet.com titled 'Why Apple is winning?' The article praises Apple as if there is nothing beyond that. It also highlighted short comings of Windows, Windows Phone, Metro UI and Adnroid. This is the same author, who few months ago, was all praise for Android against Windows Phone. To me, it seemed more of a PR work from Apple. Now coming to the topic, lets discuss really Apple is that great. Since the launch of iPod to iPad, most of us have used one or the other product of Apple and mostly 'iProduct'. What are your feelings? Ease of use Ease of data sharing and syncing with other devices (PC/net etc) User interface liking Simplicity cost of ownership I had used Mac about 10 years ago and after that never really get a chance. That time, I was coming from Windows 98 and found it to be good enough and learning curve was low. During that time I was using both Windows and Apple. Recently, about 3 months ago, I again got a chance to use Macbook Pro. I used for 2-3 days and then found there are lot many things to learn. On PC, I can work with closed eyed but not with Mac. May be its new environment and never used. But I also found that Mac limits the access to various settings. though they were not that essential and for most users, those settings never make sense. My nephew also has iPod (2nd gen) and I always make fun of him due to limitation like non sharing of files and need iTunes. Further, upgrading itunes is also headache. Download ~85 mb and then install it. Any problem in syncing htrough iTunes, be assured to loss your data. Even one of my friends had same problem. She lost all her pictures and never got it back. After that she never touched her iPod. I've seen those who used Apple products, they simply feel windows is useless. But I beg to differ. Many are so much engrossed with Apple that they feel uncomfortable with other products. I also fail to understand why Macbook Pro is more expensive than a laptop of similar configuration. They use same Intel processor and what differ is OS. I always argue in favor of windows because its easy, cost and getting help is always easy. while for mac, you have to visit service centre. Many argue that you do not need any help for Mac. THey do not have virus problem, they work out of the box with other products like wi-fi netowrk etc.(also mentioned the same in cnet article). But then today's PC industry is because of Windows and not Mac. If there was no Windows, there would not have been Dell, Acer, Lenovo etc. even our Rimweb would not been there. There are many developers developing windows app, thanx to VB. There is entire PC based eco system for development tools to user software. we have wide range of hardware that we can select and similarly for software. The main idea for this topic, bloody Apple has $90 Billion in cash and stock prices are up by $100 in a month. Its profit is sky rocketing. A company is in consumer product but not FMCG and still so much of cash. Definitely there is something about the prodcuts. Either we hate it or love, Recession or boom, Apple don't give sh**t about it. It has mastered the art of marketing and creating hype for its products. I want it, you want it, everybody wants it.

Aakash - The Cheapset Andriod Tab Only For Students
csmart replied to ammar.cma's topic in General Technical Discussion
Problem already started with Akash I. the firm responsible is blaming IIT.. Source: TOI IIT responsible for Aakash I failure: Datawind NEW DELHI: Six months after ministry of human resource development launched the Aakash tablet, barely a few hundred units have reached students. The manufacturing of the device has been stopped and now the ministry and Datawind, the company responsible for supplying the tablet, are focusing on Aakash 2, an upgraded version of the device. Datawind concedes Aakash, which is supposed to digitize the way students study in India, has not been a success in its first version. But the company squarely blames IIT-Rajasthan, the nodal agency overseeing the project, for the fiasco. It says the concerns over the tablet's quality and functionality are overblown by the institute in a bid to "favour other firms". Datawind's CEO, Suneet Singh Tuli, says that after winning the bid to manufacture Aakash, the company supplied 10,000 tablets to IIT-Rajasthan. They were part of an initial order of 1,00,000 tablets that Datawind was supposed to supply to the government at a price of $49.98 per unit. But after a few hundred tablets reached students as part of the pilot project, IIT-Rajasthan started rejecting Aakash tablet, allegedly after reports that the device was failing during pilot testing and did not meet the quality criteria set by the institute. Tuli, however, disagrees. "IIT-Rajasthan was simply trying to defame us by saying that we could not meet the quality required by it," he says. "When we were awarded the contract, there was only a specification sheet. But when we started supplying the tablets, IIT-Rajasthan started rejecting the tablet based on biased and unscientific testing methodology. " "IIT Rajasthan put up roadblocks. It jeopardized the whole project. I can say the dirty tricks by the institute put us around six months behind on the project ... they did it because they were favouring other firms... Even now, the institute is trying to sabotage the project," he adds. There are reports that IIT-Rajasthan has been issued a showcause notice by MHRD last month over the Aakash failure. The notice asks institute to explain why it did not set up a tablet testing facility and procedure in time and why it failed to resolve its dispute with Datawind. Reportedly, the institute also worked with Wishtel, a company that launched a low-cost tablet called Ira last week. TOI tried contacting Prem K Kalra, director of IIT Rajasthan, over the email and phone but he wasn't available. Datawind says that after the fiasco, it took back the tablets supplied to IIT-Rajasthan. "We have not been paid for a single one of them. But mission is more important to us... we believe in Aakash project," says Tuli. The company is now working on Aakash 2, an updated version of the original tablet. It will have a capacitive screen instead of resistive and hence support multitouch. It will also have a better processor - based on Cortex A8. "We are working with IIT Mumbai for Aakash 2 and will start supplying the tablet to government this month. Our original order for 100000 units has been transferred for Aakash 2 now. After the order of 100000 units is met, MHRD will invite bids for more tablets. We will bid again," says Tuli. Kapil Sibal, minister of human resources and development, on Tuesday said that Aakash 2 will be available in May. Datawind also sells a commercial version of Aakash tablet called Ubislate. Tuli claims the firm has received over 3 million pre-bookings for Ubislate. However, this tablet too has not reached customers. "We are aware of the delay and trying to sort it out. We hope to ship Ubislate to consumer in next 10 days. To compensate for the delay, we will now give them Ubislate+, an upgraded version of the tablet at the same price," says Tuli. -
Google unveils 'Project Glass' virtual-reality glasses Source Google is developing a wearable smartphone screen as part of its 'Project Glass' initiative. NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- Siri is about to get one-upped by Google. The company on Wednesday unveiled a long-rumored concept called "Project Glass," which takes all the functionality of a smartphone and places it into a wearable device that resembles eyeglasses. The see-through lens could display everything from text messages to maps to reminders. They may be capable of showing video chats, providing turn-by-turn directions, taking photos and recording notes -- all through simple voice commands, according to a concept video produced by the company and .Project Glass is nowhere near complete, and Google (GOOG, Fortune 500) says it only went public with its effort to gather outside feedback. The stealth project has been in development for two years by a small team of engineers. The "heads-up display" glasses were born in Google's Google X lab, which is the same future-thinking research facility that developed a driverless car and is working on a space elevator. Google has no timeline for when the device will go on sale, but Google X engineers are beginning to use prototypes outside of the lab's walls. One thing they're working on in field tests: The researchers haven't yet decided whether the glasses should be stand-alone or be wirelessly powered by a smartphone. The precise look and feel of the hardware and software is still in the early design phase, but Google produced a concept design that looks like something out of a sci-fi movie. They're not quite what you'd see on RoboCop or Geordi LaForge, but they'll never be mistaken for normal eyeglasses either. The Google concept shows a video camera and a small piece of glass over the right eye, with no lens on the left. That half-and-half design was an intentional choice. "We think technology should work for you -- to be there when you need it and get out of your way when you don't," the company said on its Google+ page. The software design appears a lot cleaner than the hardware, with friendly icons and unobtrusive notifications. But Google's concept video portrays perhaps the loneliest vision of the future ever. A man starts his morning by putting his glasses on, then goes through most of his day talking to himself, without actually interacting with anyone face-to-face, save one friendly pat of a bulldog and a super-quick visit to a coffee truck with a buddy. A notification delivered in the morning to "See Jess tonight at 6:30 p.m." turns out not to be an actual date, but a video chat. As the sun sets, Google's protagonist remotely serenades his friend's avatar with a ukulele. What Google's final version will look like -- and whether it will actually end up on store shelves -- is anyone's guess. But Google X's futuristic sketch proves that those little plastic rectangles we've been accustomed to communicating through could soon be outdated technology.

Even apple gets infected with virus. there are more than 600,000 MAcs infected with botnet. considering the total number of Macs, the percentage is very low. but astonishingly, 50% of these affected are in US & Canada. So Apple's claim that there are no virus is false. however this will not affect the company in any manner.

9-yr-old disabled boy gets patent for 6 players' chess Source JAIPUR: A nine-year-old wheelchair-ridden boy suffering from a rare genetic disease has set an exemplary example by getting a patent for his invention of six-player circular chess here. Despite suffering from duchenne muscular dystrophy, a progressive degenerative disorder of muscle tissue which affects only males, Hridayeshwar Singh Bhati - a class-IV student of Delhi Public School - has made an innovative version of circular chess for two, three, four and six players. "So far, four-player circular chess was available. Hridayeshwar is the youngest disabled person in the world to get the patent for invention," his father S S Bhati said. He said that Hridayeshwar developed liking for the game when he began his studies. "I wanted all my friends to play chess at one time so I asked my father to buy me another chess board for this purpose. He said no such chess board was available so I conceived the idea for developing such chess board," the kid said. Hridayeshwar's father, a math teacher, assisted him in developing the design. "The idea and design is created by my son. He applied his own thought but as a math teacher, I assisted him geometrically," Bhari said. "We are now working on a chess board on which 60 players can play together. Commercialisation is not the motive...it is aimed at inspiring others that despite worst condition, one can give best results," he said.
