HP merges printer unit with PC business Source 32-year HP veteran Vyomesh Joshi is out at the company amid a shakeup that will combine PCs and printers into one unit. NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- Hewlett-Packard is shaking up its business yet again, combining its printer and personal computer divisions. One of HP's longest-tenured and most-admired executives is retiring as a result. HP's printing group was once its shining star, returning ridiculously high profit margins on ink cartridge sales. But that business stagnated over the past decade and particularly slumped in the last few years. HP's printing profit fell 10% last year as sales remained flat. The holiday season was particularly tough. Ink sales fell 6%, office printers fell 5% and consumer printer sales tumbled 15% in the company's fiscal first quarter, which ended in January. As it lumps printers and PCs together, HP ( HPQ, Fortune 500) said that imaging and printing group chief Vyomesh "VJ" Joshi was stepping down. Joshi, the division's leader for the past decade, served in various roles at HP throughout his 32-year career there. His tenure dates back to the golden years of "Bill and Dave," when Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard still had active roles at the company they founded. "VJ embodies the spirit of HP and his impact on the company has been tremendous," HP CEO Meg Whitman said in a written statement. "We wish him the very best as he embarks on a new chapter in his life." After Ann Livermore stepped down as HP's enterprise chief last year, Joshi was the last remaining top HP executive to have ties to the Bill and Dave era. He is well-respected throughout the industry and had long been considered a superstar executive. Joshi was forced off of Yahoo ( YHOO, Fortune 500)'s board in that company's shakeup last month. He had been a Yahoo director for seven years. The merging of the printing and PC units means HP Personal Systems Group executive Todd Bradley will now oversee two struggling businesses. HP considered spinning off its PC unit last year. The board later decided that it would hang onto the business-critical but low-margin unit. The overall PC industry is stuck in neutral, but HP, the world's largest computer maker, is traveling at high speed in reverse. PC sales fell 3% last year and 15% during the holiday quarter, with consumer computer sales tumbling 25%. Whitman said on recent conference calls with investors that she hopes to streamline HP's businesses and ensure that individual business groups work together in the future. She also said that the company's divisions have been too separate in the past, leading to too much competition within the ranks.

I just come across an article which states that free apps drains battery as well as they are security threat. These free apps are generally make money through ads. So while showing ads, they download from net and hence consume lot of power. they are security threat as they allow remote code to run on devices. A study was done in US university and they are going present the paper sometime next month. the paper is available to download, chekc the link in the article..

I've used DLink and LinkSys and both are good. Never used belkin or netgear. also your area is also large so better check specs and choose router that can cover larger area or you buy one that has facility to change antenna. I am also in process of buying new ADSL2 with wifi router. nothing shortlisted though.

I want to buy an equipment and co allows only US/Canda address for shipping and billing. though both addresses can be different. if i purchased it and give SNS address, will they ship it to India based on that invoice. or i need India address. -
can you post the link where it has mentioned. in fact many has this issue and some told it works with MX player. but i tried on MX also, it palys for 1/2 second and then closes. no idea whats de issue.. Besides, battery still remains a major issue on CM9 even on Beta1.. somebody asked me to use juice defender. I've just installed it and will see how it performs.

Which gingerbread ROM? stock?

@abhi you need to check how numbers are stored. you have to store with prefix 0. Eg, mobile number should be 09820098200 and land line no. 02269999999. Do not put and - or space... I had the same problem (showed only numbers in call log and SMS) as I had stored all my numbers with 0091 prefix. you have no choice but to store in the format I mentioned. After changing the numbers int he format I said, it will show up.

Many on XDA said that CM9 battery is related to hardware. but i doubt. accodring to them, Epic 4G hardware is not "properly suitable" for ICS and thats the reason battery life is weak. apart from that, its good.
-
@amtrag what abhi is saying that most apple products come with "obsolete" hardware. take example of iPhone 4S, it came with 8MP and still no mutli tasking. while others, Motorola, Samsung all had these features long back... @abhi correct me if i m wrong...

thats good ROM. i had used, but don't remember whether there was any prbolem and also i've tried Marcusant V3. V3 has problem with swype. For keyboard, would suggest to try ICS keyboard, freely available on market/google play and compatible with any GB ROM. its really good. currently using it on CM9 beta 0.

agree with hitesh... for normal user, canon and then nikon are the best. I found panasonic to be bit slow and I've suggested many to use canon and all are happy.

Initial supply of new iPad is sold out and many are selling on ebay for 3x the actual price. Read more here..... BTW, its not iPad 3, apple is calling it as new iPad. So who knows, may be iPad3 will be different one. MODs: Suggest to change the topic title to new iPad instead of iPad 3.
